Jamie definitely seems billed to play one of the 3 big stages. The last time I saw Jamie he didn’t really have much going on visually, so unless he’s got something new cooked up, I would assume the outdoor would work best for him.
If Fatboy Slim isn't closing the Yuma, would Duck Sauce be a potential Sahara closer? They closed it once already, and the main reason I wouldn't have put them there is a potential Duck Sauce / Fatboy Slim conflict. But if Fatboy Slim is earlier in the Yuma, don't see any reason Duck Sauce couldn't close and conflict with Ye, they already closed it and conflicted with Arcade Fire in 2014
EDIT: I guess Slander makes more sense still though, no objections to them closing, didn't realize we have Duck Sauce early enough to still avoid an 8:30 Fatboy Slim set
Who are the best acts to primarily go against Ye? My vote would be
Kim Petras Solomun SLANDER
Doesn't it make a bit more sense to have Fatboy against Kanye for crowd control purposes? Or do we think it would be fine to have him against Doja?
Kim Petras against Kanye to me seems wrong, if anything just because I don't see them having her as cannon-fodder. Slander, to me at least, seems like a shoe-in to close the Sahara against Kanye.
I think Kim against Kanye actually works pretty well personally. I could envision her fanbase fitting nicely with the crowd that is heavily turned off by the very idea of Kanye these days. I don't think it'd be cannon fodder at all; not a massive crowd, but not empty.
Either way I think Coachella really needs to offer something substantial in one of the tents against Kanye or you'll have a number of frustrated people leaving early (though maybe GV doesn't care if that happens for crowd control or other reasons).

Even though it’s been 2 decades it feels I doubt we get A*Trak against Kanye
ah actually that's a great point, I didn't even consider the A-Trak / Ye connection, you're right no doubt A-Trak prob wants to see Ye's set
I won’t be surprised if Duck Sauce play at 5 in the afternoon. Moving down an entire line with a bunch of hip/hop on the 2nd line doesn’t bode well for them playing at night IMO.
I feel like a lot of people, who claim to not like Kanye, will still end up at his set because of, pure, curiosity to see what it'll be like. Like a lot of spectators off to the very back watching from afar.

That will be me if there’s nothing else good. I said if nothing is going on I will watch from the roller coaster. See the spectacle from up top
they haven't scheduled a busy Sunday night in a while. For better or worse, most people are zonked at that time and if they're not into the headliner, they're usually leaving the festival. There will be some counterprogramming obviously but I think the push for strong competition for Ye is wishful on our part. I don't care about Ye either but it's just not the way they've scheduled the fest in recent years.
Slander is a shoo-in to close the Sahara against Ye, there will be something going in the Yuma, something in the Do Lab, and probably something respectable but not strong in one of the Mojave or Gobi. The Outdoor will end within 20 minutes of him starting, if not before. Go look at how they scheduled Ariana and Eminem; that's going to be very similar to what we get for Ye.
Also I'm not into Joji either but y'all are massively understating his pull with the kids. He will do fine wherever he is as long as he's not against Doja or Ye, and even then he'd have a respectable crowd. Before Doja on main makes a ton of sense, and his set will fit the golden hour too.

Ariana had Kaytranada, Yuma and someone in the Sahara against her. I just need something like that. Fred again, fatboy and Slander vs Ye.
Also I think everyone is saying Joji has pull but being a #3 means he will either be before Doja (great spot) or before Ye on the outdoor (terrible spot)

I would personally hate Fred again against Ye because I want to drag all my friends to it, but something like that seems spot on. Although I also think Kim Petras or Chicano Batman are billed for it and could pull it off, even if Chicano Batman feels like a daytime act. Orville Peck could probably do it too. Those seem like our options for Mojave/Gobi.
I personally think Chicano Batman aren't really a fit and they're a band the festival clearly likes, not sure they'd put them there. Orville Peck feels too buzzy, something they'd want to highlight better (or at least route people to), and also not a super strong fit for closing the festival. Fred again fits well stylistically but is also surging and feels born for a sunset slot. Kim Petras feels like counterprogramming to me: fan base that doesn't overlap too much with Kanye, music style doesn't make you think they can't conflict, and at the intersection of credible closer, rising talent, and not too big that going against Kanye is impossible/a travesty.
really just depends if you think Fred again or Kim fits that closer spot better IMO.
A different discussion: I do not think Maggie will play where we have her. She has an album coming, she was extremely well-received last time, and I think her placement implies that she will get a big push from her label and from the festival, and play Outdoor after dark. I think if we move Jamie to Outdoor closer, Joji to third on main, we should slide Maggie into the spot Jamie's currently in. Just leaves us with an admittedly-sticky question of where to put RTJ.
EDIT: although I think if we slide Jamie to closing Outdoor, him and Duke Dumont won't conflict. And I think RTJ would crush the new Sahara, which they've never played. If we put them second-to-last in there and slide everyone else down, it lines up the conflicts better stylistically and could be a reasonable counterweight to camping the Main for Ye. Not a huge one, but enough of one. And it would make their crowd great in there.

I think the last few hours of Sunday are fine the way they are currently. Prob won't be much going on while Ye is on.
Also think Chicano Batman might see a slight bump up from their current slot. It's a little too close to their time on the Outdoor from 2017. Chicano in Maneskin's spot makes a little more sense IMO.
Interpol & The Walkmen 11.23 I Am Morbid/Suffocation 11.26 King Diamond 11.29 Sadistic Intent/Massacre 11.30 70K Tons Of Metal 2025 Hell's Heroes 2025 Sick New World 2025 Maryland Deathfest 2025
Fred Again vs Kanye West is the exact type of conflict that will cause unbridled rage amongst many and for that reason I am sort of expecting it to be the case. There is no reason this can't happen, and I feel like Paul T will be more concerned with him not conflicting against Jamie XX and maybe Fatboy Slim. There are a couple conflicts that cause people to flip the fuck out every year and this seems like one of the most likely ones to me. Seems like Kaytranada vs. Drake 2.0.

My wish is for RTJ to be in the Sahara around 8pm, they would rock the new Sahara so hard. But they can realistically end up on the main, outdoor, or Sahara so it's hard to call.
I can see Maggie going 4th to last on the Main or Outdoor at dark. I could even see Maggie closing the Outdoor. H.E.R. closed the Outdoor and overlapped the start of Ariana which was a surprise placement to me in 2019
And speaking of Kaytranada, has anybody driven down the freeway to look for set time billboards yet? The best and most unexpected confirmation we've ever gotten.

I hadn't really considered RTJ in the Sahara but when I stop to think about it I do think it makes a lot of sense, honestly. We also don't have any 2nd line acts in the Sahara from this day, and as far as I can tell that's pretty rare. The main question is who we'd move out of that tent; Channel Tres and Vince Staples are the best options if we want to do that.
Looking back over Coachella 2019's set times, there were a ton of curve balls and head scratchers.. I'm still puzzled at JPEGMAFIA getting 5pm on the Outdoor, and 4 hiphop acts in a row in the Sahara on Sunday. On top of that the Sahara hiphop didn't go in bill order, Gucci Gang was billed the lowest and played last during that 4 act run. H.E.R. closing the Outdoor (she deserved a prime slot like that, it just didn't match where she was billed). A lot of slots didn't match billing, it was weird

Tough call. I don't think Channel Tres will be in the Sahara personally. Vince is someone who could end up on the Outdoor since he's already played Sahara (old Sahara) and Main, his newest album is pretty laid back so who knows. J.I.D. is pretty flexible too, he could fit in the Mojave but he could also end up early outside.
I can see them giving Denzel Curry a spot outside around 5 like JPEG had. Most of the hiphop here is pretty flexible, unlike 2019 where you just KNEW a YG was in the Sahara.
But sidenote: low billing aside, Griselda won't be playing that early on the Outdoor. They'll give them a good time slot somewhere, they deserve it
Yard Act are prob opening a stage right? i know it says that in a mock but just wanna make sure because them and Squid are playing the same day in my city and i’ll get a Squid ticket if i can see Yard Act at coachella

Griselda will be in a (non Sahara) tent some time between 330-8
I also think Vince is building a new show for the Tyler tour so I can see him outdoor late or Sahara late even though he’s billed below rappers who have never been 2nd line before like he was in 2018

I like RTJ in the Sahara or the Outdoor. They would make solid Doja counter programming. I’m not going to be surprised if Doja Cat has the largest crowd of the weekend.

Channel Tres seems screamingly obvious to move out, even separate from the conversation we're having about moving RTJ in. He's destined for a tent.

I want this to be wrong so bad. And I really do think Fred is made for sunset in the Mojave. But he makes a ton of sense and is billed in the exact same spot as Kaytranada was when he closed against Ariana.
I will cling to thinking that Kim Petras fits even better there, but I won't be surprised to see this at all when set times drop.
