The more I look at this, if Hot Chip really is confirmed for "sunset outdoor" I am wondering if it is the Gorgon City sunset slot - 6:00ish and fourth to last, not 7:00ish and third to last like we have them. We got the "sunset at outdoor" confirmation for them too. Giveon probably too big for a tent, I get that, it just seems wild having four second liners and a headliner, and a third liner too, on the main. And the only reason we don't have Giveon on the outdoor is to protect that Hot Chip spot. Think Friday 2019 with Hot Chip as Gorgon City and Giveon as Ella Mai.
Hot Chip is electric live and has tons of Coachella history and pedigree but in 2022 and on this lineup, I honestly feel they could play the Gobi and be fine.

Hot Chip in a tent would be excellent. When they played Main, the energy wasn’t there.

Hot Chip work in a number of different slots (including sunset Outdoor) but I do think a night tent slot is ideal for them. Would love a confirmation on this one.
night in a tent works probably best for them, but it does put them in the middle of the Saturday night train wreck. Which always occurs on whatever day is overly stacked with these kinds of acts, despite us always scheduling our predictions in a way that avoids the worst of it. Maybe best to just rip the bandaid off early
I think Idles out of all the rock acts is most likely to play earlier. Especially if you consider that RATM was scheduled to originally play this day. Obviously they could pivot and play them later now, but I think that will significantly hurt their crowd. Putting Idles on around 4 or 5 makes the most sense IMO. I’d recommend we switch them with the Marias and slightly adjust the Sonora as needed to ensure something like Amyl doesn’t conflict.
I don't see them putting The Marias that early, in order to give Idles the better slot. Marias are quite a bit bigger than Idles and will 100% draw a larger crowd. I can definitely work on moving Idles, but I don't want to put Marias (or Mika for that matter, who I believe will also have a much bigger crowd than Idles) at 2.
But hey, if I'm totally off here, let me know and we'll talk lol
Following up with some slight movement suggestions. A three way swap. Idles swap with The Maria’s and then The Maria’s swaps with Slowthai. This still gives the Maria’s a strong set time, and I can’t imagine them overflowing the Gobi.
Slowthai then gets Stormzy’s 2017 slot and Idles gets the King Gizzard 2017 slot. I just can’t see Idles starting before 3:00 but definitely like them earlier on the Outdoor.

deegleberry already said they’re sunset outdoor I think

I thought that was a 2020 confirmation though, and I'm curious if it still stands.
When Still Woozy played the Sonora in 2019 (billed on the bottom line of his day) it had to have been the most packed the Sonora was all weekend. I would be pretty shocked if he plays a tent after his huge rise over the past couple years.
I can move Slowthai if people think he really is too big for the Gobi (which personally I don't)
Giveon is one of the most streamed acts playing the festival this year. Not saying he HAS to play the Main, but I would be insanely surprised if he is anywhere but Main or Outdoor.
I don't see them putting Brockhampton against the headliner, especially considering it'll be their last show.
A bunch of people have suggested this lately, so I went and put J Breakfast at 7 in the Gobi and moved everyone down, then swapped Arlo Parks and Masego.
I'm not sure of a solid way to make Rina later, but I'm open to suggestions.
We currently have Griselda at 4, which is much better than when they opened the Gobi at 1. It's the best slot that we can give them without having them conflict with one of Sunday's big rap acts.
Appreciate the replies I know that was a lot lol I think Woozy would be fine in the Mojave personally but I see what you mean Same with Slowthai, I think he'd be fine in the Mojave as well, similar to BROCK in 2018 Looking over Giveon's day again I think you're right, there isn't necessarily anyone better to put on the main in his spot
I actually think BROCKHAMPTON will play after the headliner. Like what Kid Cudi and Bassnectar did in 2019 on the Outdoor/Sahara after Tame Impala

We already have one headliner not closing the fest on their day, I doubt they do that twice in one weekend.
Harry/SHM? Technically SMH and Harry are both headliners. It was just a fumbled situation, but I look at it like they're coheadliners and SHM happens to be going second. But I don't think BROCK starting at midnight in the Sahara would be negatively impacted by Billie being 30-40 minutes into her set already. I would say they have some crossover fans, but not too too much to where BROCK wouldn't still pack out the Sahara

Wait are you saying Brock will just close a stage until 1? If that’s the case sure it’s possible. But if you’re comparing it to Tame/Cudi with Billie finishing at 12 that’s not happening. She will play until 1

still don't think this is likely with it being their last show.

I think where we have them is perfect. Right between Meg and Billie. Near blackpink’s time. A perfect time to showcase someone. Only other option is closed the Mojave.

I think you have to remember that Paul didn’t book them to showcase their last show. He booked them 2.5 years ago and they just stayed on the lineup. He likely scheduled them to appear as any 3rd line artist. I can’t see him moving a bunch of people around to try and give them the perfect set time. Attendees will prioritize BROCKHAMPTON if they’re important to them naturally because it’s their last show.

Eh, I could see him still highlighting them with the new knowledge that it's their final shows. It's akin to booking an act on the 3rd or 4th line and watching them explode in popularity before the festival; he's not going to give that act a bad set time just because they weren't as big when originally booked.
There is no damn way that Billie isn't playing until 1:00. I think where BROCKHAMPTON is looks great already - there are other ways to highlight an act without them closing anything.
Also think there's a good chance they are on the main at like 5:30.

them on the main is best case for me, ideally Brockhampton > Megan > Flume > Billie run on main with Disclosure closing Sahara

I don’t think he’s going to give them a bad slot by any means. I just don’t think they are going to bump a 2nd line artist out of their spot to highlight BROCKHAMPTON.

I mean we don’t know who is bumping who. Also later set doesn’t always mean better set
Odd future was booked for the tiny dome in 2011. Then blew up in February and played after Skrillex in the Sahara (wildest day time B2B in Sahara history)
