Yeah, I think they've finally found the ideal placement for everything at the festival (unless/until they somehow attempt to expand the grounds again). I absolutely love where the Sonora is now. Would be super bummed if they move it.

Can somebody explain why we have L’Impertatrice closing a stage? They seem likely to be given either a sunset or mid afternoon tent slot IMO. Would suck if they closed against all of the other stuff going on.
Rina Sawayama sold out in 1 second. I definitely think she plays later. She’s big
Fully agree, if she plays early it’s on one of the two big outdoor stages. I also think Girl in Red screams mid afternoon Coachella stage too. Don’t see her getting the end of sunset on the Outdoor.
Main Girl in Red - Giveon - Megan - Flume - Billie
Outdoor Koffee - Anitta - Hot Chip - Danny Elfman - Stromae

They're a fairly archetypical live dance act that often close tents. Could definitely go on earlier, but they fit the late night Gobi really well.

But don’t we have caribou starting like 15 minutes earlier filling that slot? I’m not saying it’s outside the realm of possibility either, but really doubt it’s them and Caribou closing the tents at the same time, Caribou makes more sense in that slot than a live disco act.
it's not been around that long so we only have 3 years of precedent, but I think it's always been done by 9 or so
I think it went kind of late the Saturday of 2018 and stopped right before Beyoncé. That said, I think those sets were really poorly attended too. It felt like the 2019 Sonora placement increased traffic substantially from 2018 and 2017. Hopefully they continue to keep it there. I also think the Sonora lineup is pretty solid this year and will have more than a couple sets with decent crowds.
Good memory, Hundred Waters played til 11:00 on that Saturday. only day it's ever gone past 9 I think.
Agreed that Sonora should stay where it is, it's so convenient there and I make it in for at least 1 or 2 more sets than I otherwise would because it's right there and AC'd and has a bar in the back.
ok I know we've been moving Fred around because I demand he not be against Ye but this doesn't work either
F me this is getting rough.
Sunday has felt more difficult than Saturday, which I didn't expect going into this. Maybe I just assumed Saturday would suck and accepted it as soon as I saw the poster, whereas Sunday didn't jump out that way. Also think I've seen less of the stuff I'm super interested in on Sunday, which is making it feel worse to me. idk. it's getting difficult!
When we're talking about bookings for venues in SF (I do booking work with 1015 Folsom, Midway, Halcyon and Public Works) the metrics that they care more about these days tends to be the number of monthly Spotify plays, as it gives a better idea of current value VS social media numbers that could be higher than others due to how long they have been in the scene. Now this could be totally different for Coachella of course, and they may look at social media numbers first and foremost while caring less about average monthly Spotify plays. But I also think he is much much bigger than Damian Lazarus or Artbat, and would make a lot of sense for him to get later billing.
PDM in 2022 is definitely bigger than Chris Lake was in 2019. Chris Lake may have sold out the Shrine for his Localchella show in 2019, but that's 100% because Fisher was also on that bill.
Spotify plays can still be manipulated and has to be taken into context. I know that’s a go-to metric for agents to point out their monthly listeners but it isn’t that simple. There are plenty of artists who have tons of listens but it doesn’t equate to actual tickets they can sell. There’s still a value that has to be determined behind those listens and it’s never easy to figure out.
Regardless, that’s a whole separate discussion. PDM’s billing doesn’t suggest he’ll be one of the last Yuma acts and billing historically has been the best indicator of set time placement. This is a schedule that we’re trying to predict, not a schedule of what we feel works best, otherwise many people here wouldn’t even have PDM in the Yuma to begin with.
FYI I myself am working on a sheet that averages stage/time historically and making a set time prediction off that data. Just doing it for fun but I can post it here if people are interested.
Yeah I hear what you're saying.
Would definitely be interested to see that predictions sheet if you wind up finishing it.

Good to have you back Mikey! I’m indifferent on PDM as could see him being on either stage. I’m inclined to lean towards the Yuma now with the Sound localchella show.
That said, if we do keep him in the Yuma then we need to shorten his set time to align with those around his font size. They aren’t giving him a slightly longer set, and honestly don’t think we should be concerned with him playing late afternoon / early evening in the Yuma. Yes he has a few songs that have some Spotify plays, but that isn’t going to translate to a Sahara level crowd moving over to the Yuma. He’s just an artist that would have integrated well with the Sahara crowd. Nothing more and nothing less.

I keep thinking somebody we aren’t considering at all is going to play the Sahara on Saturday. Would someone like Stromae work in the Sahara? Isaiah Rashad?
I’m personally not convinced MIANE won’t be in the Yuma when I listen to her music.

How popular is Stromae in the states? I know we're pretty big on him here and on reddit, but I have no clue how big he is outside of that.
I also have no clue either but he’s playing Bill Graham here in SF, and that’s the biggest venue you can play before ending up in an arena. They must have confidence in his ability to move tickets. I thought the same of Gesaffelstein at the time, and he didn’t sell out Bill Graham, but did better than I’d have expected. This is a long winded way of saying Gesa and Stromae could end up with the similar slots.

Stromae is pretty big worldwide though obviously not as much in the US. Talking strictly stateside popularity, I don't think he's big enough to be second line. By the looks of this year's lineup though, they gave some artists higher appropriate billing due to their international success (which is the right move IMO).
