Stromae is pretty big worldwide though obviously not as much in the US. Talking strictly stateside popularity, I don't think he's big enough to be second line. By the looks of this year's lineup though, they gave some artists higher appropriate billing due to their international success (which is the right move IMO).
But again - the venues he's booking reflect a second line billing. If he were playing, like, the Fox in SF I'd agree. The Knife were billed 2nd in 2014 and they did three nights at the Fox, which is still less than Bill Graham, which Stromae is playing. I think he must have a bigger audience here than we realize.

Bill Graham can be kinda weird though. Sure they get some big acts but then they also have shows with Polo & Pan and Lane 8 who definitely aren't second line acts. But he is playing Madison Square Garden which is big... but he's also playing The Anthem in DC which is holding acts like Madeon, Snoh Aalegra and Car Seat Headrest. I guess it's debatable but regardless, if we're considering worldwide popularity he definitely deserves second line billing so it's a moot point.
With Caribou, DJ Koze, Hot Chip, and Floating Points all being on the same day, I don't think there's any way one of them doesn't close a stage.
edut: unless they are all in fact culminating with Disclosure. also feels like they would make the L'Imperatrice set accessible to this base
it sucks, but there's absolutely no way none of these conflict. probably multiple
I could see none of those artists conflicting, but they’re definitely going to conflict with Disclosure, Danny Elfman, or Stromae. Really wish after Rage fell through that some of these carry forward artists shifted to Friday.
Just so weird that Friday and Sunday are crammed pack with Yuma artists when Saturday might have multiple artists with extended two hour sets. I feel like somebody has to be moving to Saturday.
did I miss when someone confirmed DJ Koze would NOT be in the YUMA? That has to be part of the problem

No confirmation that this is the show Koze is bringing to Coachella, but being that he debuted this (live) production show in late 2019 and was originally scheduled to be outside the Yuma I’d say there is a chance we get something like this.

I will be very disappointed now if this isn't what we get

It’s DJ Koze, regardless of what we get it will be a good time. I feel like I’m prioritizing him over so many other good acts at this point.

I was taking you as including L'Imperatrice and Disclosure in that group. I think there's a chance none of Floating Points/Koze/Hot Chip/Caribou conflict for sure, even though it's probably under 50%. You either have to line up 4 hours of the Mojave and Gobi perfectly on the busiest night of the festival or hope one of them plays the Outdoor and you still get the others lined up well.

just when I convinced myself that I could skip him since I've seen him multiple times. this looks incredible
I don’t think they would have booked all of those similar acts that serve similarly niche audiences, just to have them conflict. If I had money on anything it’s that we will have a flawless run of all these electronic bands on Saturday.
Eh, to me the four that are in question seem to be even more similar than that pairing. I think Hot Chip could close the Mojave and if that were the case they could easily stagger Koze, Caribou, and FP in tents before. Maybe Disclosure plays the main before Megan thee Stallion?

Oh. You actually weren't trolling? That makes this so much better.

This might be wishful thinking on my part, but L'Imperatrice seems like they'd be perfect as a late-night tent live dance act, which Coachella often does. Either as a closer or almost-closer for the Gobi/Mohave, e.g. Jamiroquai, Jungle, Classixx, Breakbot, etc.
Unsure of Mikey's logic as to why L'Imperatrice is closing a tent besides your wishful thinking in this post. Besides entertaining you, I'm just doing the same here fwiw.
I think my scenario of the four acts going unconflicted is just plausible as the situation you were hoping for.
First year going. First year paying attention to set time threads. How good are you guys at this usually? Also do the pictures on page 1 get updated or do you have to follow the thread?

We suck at this and the first page graphics are typically updated weekly.

I want to say we get about 30-40% right. Right being “correct stage, start time within 45 minutes”

yeah this is exactly it - the thread will be full of people who are absolutely confident that so and so will play in the Sahara and at such and such a time because reasons, and they'll be completely wrong. and then they'll do the same thing again next year.

My amusement comes from when you said this: "I don’t think they would have booked all of those similar acts that serve similarly niche audiences, just to have them conflict. If I had money on anything it’s that we will have a flawless run of all these electronic bands on Saturday."
There are literally always heartbreaking fanbase-crossover hard conflicts. They do exactly what you claim they won't do, every single year. I sorta thought the first sentence was a joke, considering how well known this is.
If history is any guide, the odds that your favorite 4 electronic acts run unconflicted in one evening is approximately 0%. And you comparing my "wishful thinking" for a somewhat logical placement of one act as equivalently likely as your dream sequence appearing on the set times is just bad logic. Especially cause you didn't say "wishful thinking" like I did, knowing that it was very likely not going to happen, you said "I'd put money on it" lol.
Anyway, welcome to Coachella. Try to go both weekends if you can.

I've been to plenty of Coachella's, dick. Don't get why you would have any reason to come at me like this, but whatever. I hope you feel like an idiot when my hypothetical scenario comes true and yours does not. I am pretty pumped for L'Imperatrice's 3 PM set too for what it's worth.
By the way it's not that it's my dream scenario of electronic bands more than it is their working relationships.
