Y'all must have avoided the main stage Saturday 2018 lol. Tyler The Creator literally said that crowd made him depressed and made him second guess his music
not to say bad crowds don’t exist and they can improve or lessen a shows enjoyability, but not an insane amount
Not an insane amount? If you're at a set that promotes high crowd energy, dancing, moshing, jumping around etc. And that crowd is just dead because they're totally disinterested. That has a massive influence on the enjoyment of the show. Crowd participation doesn't matter so much for more chill artists. But imagine a Matt & Kim set with a dead crowd, or a BROCKHAMPTON or Carti set where no one moved? Come on. That's like saying.. YG 2019 would have been just as fun if that Sahara crowd just stood there blank faced
the worst instance i can think of with a crowd ruining the set is YYYs at Osheaga 2018. travis scott stans were booing and chanting we want travis in the middle of their set

Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

You’re giving me hypothetical situations. In my experience, these made up issues almost never exist.

I was at the YG 2019 show and I thought he was kind of bad. No amount of bros in the crowd careening into each other was gonna make the performance more interesting for me

Twenty one pilots is the only band I’ve seen where the fans ruined the fest because no one wanted to go to the festival that day, you were able to walk into the third row in every crowd that day
As a blanket statement - if the people around you are killing your vibe, you should absolutely try and relocate.
That said, Lana fans talking over NMH near the front was brutal.
I’ve seen Manu Chau twice and that was at Coachella 07 (before Rage) and the first OSL (before Radiohead). Rage crowd was a tad bit more disrespectful, while Radiohead crowd just looked bored. Always felt bad for Manu.
And yes, Blood Orange and NMH were hard to get into with the amount of people camping out for LDR.

there were so many 3 day pass holders at that Yaeji set in the arena lmao. Booking Twenty one pilots as their #1 that year was a horrendous idea. they really should have gone for Post or Gambino in that slot instead. Not saying id want Post, but he would have sold more tix and been a smarter idea for the fest

was anyone else there at panorama in 2017 when spoon played to a tent full of odd future kids? that was hilarious and they clearly also got a kick out of it
Crowded House was the most notable one I can think of, no doubt. I think some of the other “bad crowds” are really just disinterested crowds.
I agree with you, but without quotation marks. Disinterested crowds ARE bad crowds, and suck to be in, just like super engaged crowds who are all about the music can really elevate a show. Environment is a major factor.
Yeah, I guess I’d just say I can’t think of a show I was at where the crowd was disinterested in spite of a great performance rather than because of a weak one.

Oh man, where I was for Manu Chao, the rage fans were losing their mind for it, loved it. And NMH is a good example of a great show where the somewhat disinterested crowd didn’t matter, one of my favs of the weekend.
It was funny to watch Cure fans struggle to endure My Bloody Valentine. They looked especially miserable during You Made Me Realise
I have that video, along with when MBV was on before Tool a few months later. Tool fans were flipping em off lol. So many people did not have earplugs. Public enemy was really pissed when they were on cause you couldnt hear em.
And yeah, people were going off for Manu Chao before Rage.
“Knowing what our rough set time is now and where we’ll be playing this year, yeah, 14-year-old me actually is freaking out because we saw Tame Impala in that spot years ago.”

Tame played at 5:50 on the Outdoor in 2011. I'd say we put them in Hot Chip's spot (the same as Tame's in 2011), move Hot Chip to BROCKHAMPTON's (since we had "hot chip sunset outdoor" confirmed at one point anyway), move BROCKHAMPTON to the Mojave where Caribou is now (we don't have any hip hop right now from 10-12pm), move Caribou to where Wallows was.
Either that or get Brock to early afternoon main or Sahara sometime, but the above is my personal preference.
I don't think they will, it'd be rude to schedule their last ever show at the same time as a headliner, which is why I love that Caribou Mojave slot for them.

Never been to Outside Lands I take it?
I have, I hate it, but the crowds are the least of my issues there. I'd put that issue below the sound quality, festival layout, and set times, and probably more if I thought about it. Man, I hate that festival, and I kind of resent it for having consistently just good enough lineups to get me back on occasion.
