I think that has largely already taken place. The current pivot is more towards pop music, if anything. Sahara gets the vast majority of the rowdy hip hop acts, which seems appropriate given that it has largely replaced big tent EDM as the culturally relevant party music. If you look at the set times since 2017 or so, they've done a great job of gradually sequestering that music and fan base towards the far corner of the field for most of the day. It's great for people like me that spend most of the day at Outdoor/Mojave/Gobi/Sonora.
Coachella does an awesome job with these type of acts, in my personal opinion. Logistically, there's so much horizontal space in the new Sahara that you get way less crowd crush, and the distance from the rails to performers is generally pretty far given the depth of the stage. If you go into the Sahara for something like 21 Savage/Baby Keem/Denzel Curry, you know what you're getting into crowd-wise anyway. Just like you knew what you were getting into for any big EDM name in the Sahara between 2013-2018ish.
Anecdotally, I was standing beside a girl on some dude's shoulders at the end of 2015 Gesaffelstein that was chucking glow sticks at him during the end of his "last performance ever". Also was at Lolla when LCD Soundsystem headlined and they almost walked off because someone chucked a full beer at Nancy Whang. People can be awful no matter the genre.
yeah that is absolutely fucking disgusting. crowds like that are why hip hop shows can be trash a lot of the time
This is also why Coachella needs to chill with its pivot toward becoming a hip hop festival.
Coachella is in no way turning into a hip-hop festival. Just because it’s being featured more heavily than than years past doesn’t mean it’s turning into a hip-hop festival.
Also, Rolling Loud and Coachella are two completely different animals. Let’s chill on the comparisons here.

I agree with what others said, I think Coachella isn't so much turning into a hip hop festival but instead has found a solid balance between booking relevant rap acts but scheduling them in ways that keeps a nice separation for those not into that scene. raftwithtaft made a great point about how they're utilizing Sahara, significantly better than how the likes of Lolla or ACL just sprinkle rap acts seemingly randomly throughout the day.

In an AMA the head booker for Lolla hinted that Taylor Swift may be entertaining festival offers and honestly her at Coachella makes sense. Could definitely see that being a kick-off into her getting back to live shows

that would honestly suck and be super boring but on the bright side, may make it more likely for Bon Iver and/or the National

If you don't like her music then I guess could be a boring act for you, but it's certainly not a boring booking. A boring booking are acts that play tons of festivals and constantly tour so they are super easy to see. An act that's never played a festival and hasn't played a proper live show since 2018 isn't a boring booking
Maybe if surrounding a huge tour its more boring but I'd expect that to be a Summer/Fall thing announced after her performance, assuming she played
Youll find out if Taylor said yes to any offers in the next couple of months when summer Euro fests drop their lineups. Thats how early Taylor's name started to get thrown around in 2019 for 2020.
Who else would we expect for a Desert Trip II? U2, Reunited Floyd?
Zep and it doesnt matter cause Zep.
quoting back a few pages but the rumor I saw for Desert Trip was a Robert Plant + Jimmy Page set which I think is way more feasible than it being billed as Zep. I don't think a full Led Zeppelin reunion, at least billed as Led Zeppelin, is happening again

If Taylor Swift won’t headline Coachella, she’ll stay at home in Nashville.

I have never had an issue at a hiphop set at Coachella before, what do you mean? I haven't had an issue at any hiphop show I've been to actually, and it's been a lot. Rolling Loud is just notorious for bad crowd behavior. Didn't Rage fans throw trash at people at Coachella before? It's not a hiphop thing.

So Travis in 2017 was like peaceful then. Sure.....

My section of that crowd wasn't bad at all. Mosh pits sure but nothing out of the ordinary. Honestly the only hiphop crowd I've ever been in that felt borderline dangerous was BROCKHAMPTON at Flog Gnaw. System of a Down was much worse. But that's mostly crowd push and moshing which. In terms of like.. fans being disrespectful? Only Flog fans booing Drake in my experience, and Flog's crowd was a specific niche. Never seen trash being thrown or a rude crowd at any other hiphop show before. It's a people issue, not a hiphop issue.
