I feel like people care way more about Jamie. Idrk anyone who has seen the xx for the last five years without prefacing it with the fact that they’re only going to see the Jamie xx bits
No one has ever said this to you.
No one has ever said I love you and meant it to you
Could see them breaking away from that formula a bit with more 90’s rock. Probably time for RHCP again or something if that nature. It’s not just for the old heads anymore as it’s coming back around. The only act I would really bet on right now is Bad Bunny.
imo I think the other thread is great for moaning about artists whose tour dates rule them out for the festival and this thread is great for ignoring that interview Paul Toilette did with the LA Times where he said Frank is playing next year.

Hell no to the Chili Peppers. If they were going that route its Oasis or The White Stripes. Pretty much all they got in that department aside from Rage or the apparent hail mary of Pearl Jam which isnt going to excite anyone as much as the other 3.

Just an observation with no conclusion, but bands that most of this thread would have lost it had they been a Coachella headliner (The Killers, RHCP, Green Day, Arctic Monkeys, etc.) about five years ago have gotten a ton of cultural cache with Gen Z
Its essentially their classic rock. We're going full circle to a band like that actually having a bigger crowd than someone like Halsey potentially
To me, it feels like Halsey, RHCP and ODESZA are on the "backup headliner" list that GV has on retainer when one of their preferred headliners drops last minute. All feel like acts that aren't necessarily "media headline" performances but would still sell tix.
It's crazy to think that we've had headliner drama pretty much every year since Beyonce's pregnancy in 2017. Was securing headliners this chaotic in the years prior?
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

Prince definitely was. The RHCP booking in 2013 was a last minute deal. It has certainly been more tumultuous recently but there have always been chaos.

I feel like booking headliners is probably somewhat chaotic every year, Just that the information regarding the chaos has become more and more public as the years go on.

Yeah, RHCP instead of The Rolling Stones. Black Sabbath backing out in 2012 cause of Tony's diagnosis. Prince saying yes, then no, then yes and pissing the fuck out of Portishead. Timberlake having to be put on the back burner cause of Bey and then losing his voice so the reschedules gave us Tame Impala.

“ Expect another very big look for Rihanna beyond the Super Bowl—one that will be earthshaking and make her without question the most valuable brand to come out of the music space.”
