Smart:
Baby Keem Dave Caroline Polachek Stromae Phoebe Bridgers
Dumb:
Louis the Child - boring Wallows - boring Maneskin - they’re so bad it offsets that it’s not that bad of a booking Solomun - there’s gotta be better names out there Daniel Caesar

Smart Harry Styles Doja Cat Grupo Firme Danny Elfman (seen a lot of social media hype about this one) Fred Again..
Dumb Louis The Child (why) Daniel Caesar Swedish House Mafia Run The Jewels (I love them but they're at every festival every year) Big Sean (in 2022???)
Missed O Rod Brent Faiyaz Hot Mulligan Paris Texas BLACKSTARKIDS
Basically what I’m saying is that I would like the lineup a lot more (and I’m sure many out there would agree with me) if
Stevie nicks replaced flume
Tears for fears replaced baby Keem
Chem bros replace Karol G
Leon Bridges replaced Joji
Getting rid of one of the best new rappers in favor of a one hit wonder from the 80s
Makes sense
What the hell happened to these forums?!! Tears for fears have been on the old Coachella boards wishlist for years. I don’t know who baby keem is so ignorance on my part if he’s a big get but this place is unrecognizable on what’s in and what’s out
5. Would enjoy some more LIB/burning man sort of artists on the lineup. CloZee, tipper, polish ambassador, wild light, mr. bill, griz, max cooper, dimond Saints, Nico jar, coco Rosie, fever Ray, something that would tell the do lab crowd that this year is gonna be fire
Smart: 1. Spiritualized 2. Yola 3. J.I.D 4. Japanese Breakfast 5. Bishop Briggs
Dumb: 1. Harry Styles 2. Flume 3. Megan thee Stallion 4. Daniel Caesar 5. Disclosure
Missed: I'll hold off until other lineups are released since there's really no way to know what was available and "missed." The War on Drugs would have been nice. I'm guessing Lana was not available or they would have got her since she was on last year's lineup. Mt. Westmore would have been a cool act to get who probably won't be around in the future.
Would love to hear your argument for Harry Styles being a dumb booking.
he's a big dum dum who has lots of bad opinions, that's all there is to it really

I’d love to know what happened with the Smile. Feels like a huge miss given Thom was on 2020 and those Sons of Kemet dates seemed to line up perfectly. Maybe they got punted to next year because of covid? Maybe it was never a possibility and we were just deluding outselves?
Other than that, Charli is a huge miss and someone should be fired for that blunder
Baby Keem being on the second line will look incredibly forward-thinking if his career maintains momentum.
I think its a perfect spot right now. His music is always going viral on Tiktok and the odds of him bringing out either Kendrick or Drake is basically 100%
His crowd will not only be big, but it'll be very energetic too. He built a pretty loyal fanbase in a short amount of time.
The thing about Keem is his live show skills are still not good. Hopefully he gets better by then so it’s not just people waiting 30 mins for Kendrick
I really haven’t listened to him very much before December, but would echo this sentiment from the videos I watched. I’m always taken back by the ability of high billing hip hop acts to not put on better live shows. Has SoundCloud totally removed that from being a part of the equation? Back in the day these crappy performers became producers and ghost writers, but today it feels like that isn’t a prerequisite. Granted I suppose everyone has to start somewhere. I saw Dua Lipa in 2017 and thought she was an awful performer then. Regardless, I hope he continues to grow as a performer as I do enjoy some of his music.
There's nothing on this lineup objectively out of place imo. It caters to many different audiences and given the two year lapse they all make sense, so I can't really come up with five acts they shouldn't have booked. This fest just has something for everyone.
As far as smart bookings go, I think Billie is great because it's just her time. The Avalanches are smart as counter-programming for Harry and since their new album has a few opportunities for guest spots. Harry Styles is solid because his tour looks like a lot of fun and appeals to a new generation of Coachella goers. Danny Elfman offers a unique experience at a festival like this and I always think it's cool when multi-genre festivals let someone like John Carpenter or Danny do their thing. I think Stromae is smart because he hasn't performed in awhile and his live performances seem to always deliver. Good time/place for his comeback. I think he could deliver a spectacle of a set making up for losing someone like FKA twigs.
The Sunday hip-hop lineup deserves a shoutout for being one of the best days for the genre they've had in years. The Yuma, as per usual, might not blow everyone away, but I think we can find value in it's diversity. It highlights many realms of club life and will also put female dj's (pumped for Sama' and Logic1000!) in prime positions like Sunday's b2b.
I think this lineup does a great job appealing to a variety of demographics across the board, so my "dumb" picks are just picks in a field that I think better artists may have been possibly chosen.
Taking my music tastes completely out of it. Looking at this from a ticket sales/marketing perspective:
Smart: Doja Cat - her booking for 2020 was laughable in hindsight. Likely the number one most sought-after female near-headliner status excluding maybe Olivia Rodrigo. Lil baby - You would be hard-pressed to find a fan of late 2010s-2020s rap who isnt itching to catch Lil Baby. Skilled rapper, performer, and still in a cloud of hype; I foresee a lot of older heads walking away thinking "dang i actually liked that baby guy." Karol G - latino acts have been going intl; choice act with the youngins already selling out pink sweat$ - extremely promising act booked right in the sweat spot between hype on the come-up while also being at a reasonable spot on the bill for the numbers he does harry styles - say what you want, but there are very few pop stars as meteoric amongst *all types of fans* as harry. 2020/21 were absolutely massive and he appeals to gen z + millenials perfectly.
Dumb: Big Sean - Just seems like a tired choice in 2022. With names like LTC, Slander, Lil Baby, Baby Keem: the demographic theyre targeting will likely only end up at Big Sean as a last resort. Don toliver here would look better Vince Staples - if you are a fan of vince staples and you havent seen him already: how? Nobody's buying a ticket to catch Vince on a lineup of this caliber. Earl Sweatshirt would have been good here. Rich Brian - 2018 would have been a great booking but rich brian in 2022 is an out-of-touch choice. Spotify tells me he's 443rd in the world though so I'm kinda at a loss here. bbno$ with a rich brian guest would probably draw more people in my opinion. Maggie Rogers - Just feels kinda off. Theres just not enough cross appeal I feel for Maggie fans to buy a coachella ticket. Kacey Musgraves would have been great here. FINNEAS - Just seems kinda... too much with Billie headlining. Im sure he'll draw a crowd but nobody is buying a ticket for him alone. Labrinth would be my pick here

I think it’s just fame is skyrocketing faster than time invested. There’s very few rappers who have a spectacular live show 1-2 years in the game. One it’s not needed. You’re performing at clubs or small venues with bad sound systems. Then BOOM you’re on the second line of a festival because your first album after your first mixtape went number 1.
You just have to see rap acts in their 3rd to 4th year touring to see what their stage presence is really like. Before that it’s mostly hype and hearing the songs you like.

Labrinth would be my pick here
I like how you did this. Even though I disagree on Stromae (would have loved Labrinth though.

I listened thru more of Stromae's discog and I realized his music is *not* what I thought it was. I switched his name with FINNEAS, who ironically would have the exact same replacement imo.
Labrinth booking would have been a grand slam off the heels of Euphoria SZN 2.
