alawre said I am wrong for defending Cook-Out. Cookin' Mama's post reminded me that I undervalue fries compared to most people. Like I really don't care about them all that much.
I’ve never cared much about fries. I’ll like them just fine, but they’re not going to make or break a place for me. And since I’ve been trying to get a little healthier, I almost never get them now so they’re even less important. It makes me happy when places have decent alternatives to fries. Like, I love a Wendy’s baked potato or Chick-Fil-A chicken noodle soup.
we are getting our first culvers here soon y'all are getting me excited. what do i need to order there?
Honestly just a straight up single deluxe cheeseburger is my favorite thing there. With all the toppings. Their veggies are always super fresh and they pile them on... big slices of tomato, thick pickle chips, red onion.
And the cheese curds are insane if you want to go crazy and switch up your side from fries.

I love fries in certain scenarios, but never get fries/full meals at fast food places, so I couldn't even tell you whose fries I like. I have only eaten at Cookout once (with Siggy and mayonaise ) but I wasn't even hungry and couldn't tell you how much I liked it, but I still have starry eyes over being able to get chicken nuggets as a side.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Does Krystal get some points for having at least some place in society? Like its so ridiculous that it becomes fun and funny to order a sack of 12 once every 3 years and hammer them home. Plays a role in my life at least where I'll never order from a Checkers again because it brings nothing of note to the table.
i guess you can value these choices however you like. to me there is no doubt that krystals are delicious but there are still a million places i'd eat late night above krystal.
like if it's late night and i'm hungry i don't fuck around i just go to waffle house. it's what i want.

We moved out of the south for about seven years so Krystal wasn’t a thing, which increased our fondness for them somewhat. While we were living in Las Vegas, they put in a White Castle that we went to a couple of times but it wasn’t worth it because you had to drive to the Strip, park, and walk to where it was, and then they were crazy expensive because it was the Strip and they could charge an arm and a leg for tiny cheeseburgers. So when we moved back to the south, we had them more frequently for a little while. We still do them on occasion, but not often.

Probs for the best. Krystal holds another special place in my heart in being the first food or drink that I could tell truly impacted me physically. For example when I was like 10-11, I could drink 5 sodas and a redbull and not feel a thing. Maybe even take a nap or fall asleep right after. Could pound a bunch of fast food and candy before playing a soccer game. No impact.
I'll never forget the way Krystal gave me diarrhea on two occasions in a row as a preteen. First time I understood that food could be about more than taste.

For sure. I enjoy Krystal, but I pretty much always feel like garbage after I eat there.
I have never had In and Out, Shake & Steak, Cookout, Panda Express and I haven't had Arby's in over 15 years because it was so fucking dry and disgusting the last time I had it. True story, I thought that Hardee's and Arby's were the same before thejeremy told me Hardee's and Carl Jr.'s (whatever that is) are the same. The closest Arby's is over 30 mins away. Oh and I have never had LJS because, why would you?

I refused to eat Checkers for over a decade because after 9/11 they advertised “freedom fries”. The marquee close to my old job had a sign for liberty burgers. Fuck that moronic trash.
I think I’ve been there like 5 times since then. Mostly cause their fries are pretty damn good.

lots of nostalgia of going to NY and getting White Castle as a kid

My guess is that Panda is the thing that annoys me the most by how far it goes in this competition. On a bad day its completely abysmal. On a good day you still had no reason to go there.

starbucks is another place i almost never go to locally. i like my home coffee but if i'm going to meet a friend for coffee we have three great local coffee shops i'll go to instead.
but again, on the road, or when i am at a hotel, it's nice to find a starbucks when you need that good caffeine hit. i'm no snob, i'll drink truck stop coffee no problem, but if i can find a starbucks i'll go for that instead.
edit: but the food at starbucks is uniformly terrible.
