Does Krystal get some points for having at least some place in society? Like its so ridiculous that it becomes fun and funny to order a sack of 12 once every 3 years and hammer them home. Plays a role in my life at least where I'll never order from a Checkers again because it brings nothing of note to the table.
I refused to eat Checkers for over a decade because after 9/11 they advertised “freedom fries”. The marquee close to my old job had a sign for liberty burgers. Fuck that moronic trash.
I think I’ve been there like 5 times since then. Mostly cause their fries are pretty damn good.
Checkers is great. Growing up it was the only fast food burgers that I didn’t drown in ketchup because they had enough flavor on their own. That flavor was dirt. Still love to get them in Atlanta sometimes. In Atlanta there’s this one little corner that has 5 or 6 different burger places. Checkers, Cookout, Hardees, some local place and maybe a Krystal’s? My wife also added there’s a Wendy’s, McDonald’s and BK in that same spot.
starbucks is another place i almost never go to locally. i like my home coffee but if i'm going to meet a friend for coffee we have three great local coffee shops i'll go to instead.
but again, on the road, or when i am at a hotel, it's nice to find a starbucks when you need that good caffeine hit. i'm no snob, i'll drink truck stop coffee no problem, but if i can find a starbucks i'll go for that instead.
edit: but the food at starbucks is uniformly terrible.
Starbucks isn't at the top of the coffee food chain for me, but this is one of the top ones I will vote for here. The food there knocks it to the bottom. I'd have a cheap greasy burger or mediocre mushy chicken sandwich any day over something premade and just sitting there.

My guess is that Panda is the thing that annoys me the most by how far it goes in this competition. On a bad day its completely abysmal. On a good day you still had no reason to go there.

Maybe it’s different depending on who is running a particular location? I haven’t eaten at Panda Express very much, but my experiences have ranged from “not very good” to “decent, I guess.” It scratches an itch sometimes when I’ve lived somewhere without good Chinese options, but I’ve never had great Panda Express before.

I refused to eat Checkers for YEARS because those people hate doing their job and pretend nobody is there, but I have eaten it from a different location and they are pretty good. Also, it used to be Rally's here and Seth Green was in their commercials.
Good "bad Chinese" food is definitely an itch that Panda Express scratches often.
I know what you are looking for, but its not an itch that im usually looking to scratch on the go. If in that mood, I'm hitting a full on buffet and really immersing myself in the filth. I want to see a tray of chicken wings labeled "chicken wing" and then have access to the 13 different variations of high fructose corn syrup spilled over shitty chicken / beef as opposed to 1 or 2.
Really? I thought Pandas were everywhere. I thought it was a requirement to have a Panda in every food court in malls in the 90s.
We have local chinese in our food courts. The Panda Express has a stand-alone brick and mortar (no drive-thru) near the Hong Kong Market.
We had a local place in one of our malls that I went to for so long that when I walked up they started making my food because they knew what I wanted. Also always asked me if I wanted to try a sample anyway and of course I do! I try to avoid malls now but we have a Chinese place near work that I love. We even took bonzai there once. She probably hated it.

this is very possible. our local panda is almost always super fresh and the service is always solid. i could imagine getting orange chicken that's been sitting under the heat lamps for a while would be bad.
the only other pandas i've eaten at is the one on the las vegas strip, which was also fresh and delicious, and one in an airport, probably houston or dallas, and it was great, but it was also slammed so the food was moving.
unfortunately our local chinese food is really bad. there is one place i used to love as a kid, everybody still goes there. then i had chinese takeout in atlanta when i was at a show and was like "oh shit so this is what good chinese food tastes like". panda may be fast food but at least it has flavor, unlike the under seasoned chinese food i grew up with.

when it was new I’d want to go get some. Pretty much always felt disappointed as soon as I started eating it.
That's pretty much how I feel about all Chinese as an adult. I'll crave it once a year and get disappointed every time. (No idea if I have had Panda Express since I have been 16.)

I remember what the place looked like and that it was served on paper plates. Just not how good the food was.

I used to work at a seafood restaurant back home. Pissed off customers always would compare us to Long John Silvers. I may be biased but even on our worst days we were never on a level as bad as Long John Silvers.
I had Hardee's for the first time on the way to the mansion. It was a bad decision. There was a Bojangle's next door...I had never heard of it before and was told to eat it before we left, but forgot. Fun Fact, my stepfather's last name is Hardee.
It's still weird to me that Carls Jr and Hardees are the same damn thing but with a different name depending on where it is. Also the only fast food to consistently give me a tummyache, and their commercials are gross. I'll vote for that until it's out lol.
