I'm sure more parties will be announced, but my schedule if I went:
Friday: smartbar opening BBQ because Palms Trax and Tin Man Saturday: Tresor or Texture (goddamn, Danny Daze, Lena Willikens, Randomer, Dr. Rubinstein, why did Movement miss out on all these artists?) Sunday: it'd be pretty hard to pick between Interface and No Way Back, Jesus Monday: Where Are My Keys or The Bunker
What parties are you guys looking at?
I see this needed to be added. ^^^
That Ghostly party for me, for sure. Probably the EFunk party (I think I get a ticket).
I'm trying to set aside some amount of time for diggin' in local record shops.
Hart Plaza, Detroit, United States of America May 26 - May 28
Last year's edition of Movement took place against a backdrop of cautious optimism in Detroit. The festival's downtown home is at the centre of an economic revival, which is a positive (albeit a complicated one) for a city that declared bankruptcy five years ago. Movement's organisers achieve the tricky balancing act of welcoming international DJs and festival-goers, while supporting the artists who make the Motor City's electronic music scene tick. That means in 2018 you'll be able to catch homegrown heroes like Carl Craig, Delano Smith, DJ Stingray, Eddie Fowlkes, DJ Godfather, Mike Huckaby and Amp Fiddler sharing the bill with out-of-towners like Nina Kraviz, KiNK and Loco Dice. (Not to mention the festival's main hip-hop booking: Wu-Tang.) For the second year running, Resident Advisor will cohost the Underground stage. While we can't tell you the exact lineup yet, we can give you a clue as to the vibe: it starts with "t" and ends with "echno."
RA Pick: Helena Hauff's Movement debut should be one to remember.
Movement going in over Primavera is shocking, but guessing their direct involvement with curating a stage played a hand in that ranking.
Definitely some self-interest bias, but still I trust Resident Advisor's integrity.
But having said that, clearly the ranking is coming more from a place of "electronic music fans should make it a point in their lives to make the pilgrimage to where electronic music was born" above the lineup or production value itself. Similar to how I push people to go to Jazzfest, not because the names on the lineups are particularly stellar, but because New Orleans is where popular music was invented. So everyone passionate enough to post regularly on a music festival message board should make the trip to Jazzfest at least once.

Me too, but it's definitely a bit of an eyebrow raiser.
That second point makes a ton of sense, and probably why Movement tops their May list each year. But, in a year with a down lineup, it's a bit curious to put it on the top just for history's sake. Movement got the top spot on their May list in 2016 too, and that was another down year (although in hindsight it's better than this year's lineup).

Objectively, you're right. There's no reason for that ranking especially since the electronic lineup at Primavera is so strong anyway.
Hell I'd prob trade my Movement weekend to see Charlotte Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin with the Gainsbourg Symphonique.
Yeeeep, Prima's electronic lineup alone is a thing of beauty. Not to mention all of the kinda electronic acts like Bjork and Thom Yorke who the tech and house heads would likely love.

it's the main reason why I've always wanted to experience it. birthplace and homage type schtuffs
It's another reason why I don't mind Louisville for Forecastle (Outkast was a major time of my younger years) or Chicago for North Coast (yeah, I said the forbidden words N.C. - !) I'll put up with a younger crowd if I have to, and I enjoyed watching the faces of those that had never seen Chem Bros, because more than likely, they were too young to experience a true get-down, whether warehouse rave or loft party.
Nothing like groovin' for a few hours nonstop, when someone like Derrick Carter, Theo Parrish, Kevin Saunderson, etc., is behind the decks. Someone that pays attn to the crowd, but willing to push them to the bounds they've never been too. No drugs necessary type feelings for me, personally.
I'm really looking forward to finding Moodymann's Black Mahogani on a shop wall or possibly their tent, if they have one. I'm really looking forward to diggin'. Imma flip the fuck out if I see Black Mahogani though.
In addition to having family in Detroit, one of my best friends just found out he'll be moving there very soon. So this probably won't happen this year, but next year I'm definitely going to try to make it if the lineup is even decent.

People on the facebook group who seem to know what they are talking about are saying schedule at the end of this month. Was hoping to get it sooner but in the end it doesn't matter.
Sat: Oona Dahl > Gaiser > Eris Drew > Helena Hauff > Carl Craig > Maceo Plex (wtf happened to the Movement Stage, goddamn) Sun: Avalon Emerson > Aurora Halal > Marcel Dettman > KiNK > Nina Kraviz Mon: Golf Clap > HITO > Ellen Allien > DJ Stingray
Man, afters are killing the festival this year.
dirtybird'd.
Saturday I'm underground all day, popping out to catch a bit of the dnb on the red bull stage in the evening. Starting the day with Carlos Souffront b2b Bill Converse will be great.
Sunday evening is brutal with conflicts. Steve Bicknell/Marcel Dettmann, Phase/Kink/Laurent Garnier/Nina, shit. I'll probably go with Bicknell, and will likely skip Nina, but I don't know how I'm going to handle Garnier/Kink/Phase.
Monday: Hito > Charlotte De Witte/Ellen Allien > DJ Stingray > Dubfire. Glad I'll be able to catch a solid hour of Dubfire after DJ Stingray.

Always do KiNK.
That Kink/Laurent Garnier/Phase conflict really is the brutal one. I'm personally leaning toward the man with the red face, but I could be convinced otherwise.
Digweed/Will Sessions & Amp Fiddler/Anthony Parasole/Tiga is pretty awful as well.
Ok what huge omissions are on my schedule? Cause I know there are some.
And why the fuck is KiNK's set so damn short!?!?!?!?!?
Also could they make the type font any damn smaller on this graphic? I can't even see the times.
If you care for my opinion, you already have a pretty full schedule, but one act I don't hear a lot about that I'm really excited for is Solardo. They were actually on Annie Mac a few weeks ago and mentioned Movement as the festival they were most looking forward to.
I'm also gonna try to see Radio Slave, Ida Engberg, Radio Slave, Delano Smith and Inner City (live). Those would probably be difficult to squeeze into your current schedule though.
not of particular interest to me but should be a big one. however i understand leland is a shithole.
Yeaaaah it's not great. No A/C, so it gets ungodly hot, and meh sound. The crowd/vibe of the venue was nice when we went, but those elements don't stack up to the big negatives.
He sat down on the couch next to me backstage before his main stage set a few years ago and struck up a conversation. Definitely got a douchebag vibe from him, but he certainly wasn't purposely rude to me or anything.
He asked me what he should play as he was putting his set together and my favorite track at the time was his remix of GusGus - Crossfade and his response was "Ewww, no, I can't play the hits". I quickly replied "Oh is that a hit?" and he just kinda blankly stared at me, hahaha.
