Thinking about popping up for Saturday to see Orbital, Disclosure, Wajatta, Marie Davidson and Maya Jane Coles.
A) What else on Saturday is worth checking out? B) What else should I know about this festival? I'm not very familiar with its setup
The Pyramid stage can be a bitch to navigate. It's in a corner with a very thin footpath into the crowd.
The Red Bull Stage has a ton of room and only stage with grass to lounge on if you please.
The sound at the Made In Detroit stage will be terrible.
The underground stage is a moist sauna and over 30 minutes of exposure to it can become a health risk.
Be careful walking down the concrete stairs at the main stage, especially at night.
The food at the festival is pretty meh overall. Avoid the "carnival" food stands as you're almost guaranteed food poisoning. The pizza stand by the Pyramid Stage is pretty cheap, quick, and not terrible.
Movement is a marathon not a race. Shows are literally non stop from Friday night into Tuesday morning with aftershows every night going until the festival begins the next afternoon. Get rest.
The weather is typically pretty comfortable, however last year was HOT AS FUCK, so it's definitely possible.
Don't play in the water at the fountain, guaranteed AIDS.
Behind the underground stage there is a row of industrial fans that can be pretty nice to chill in front of for a quick rest.
Go to TV Lounge at least once while you're at the festival.
Stay away from the casinos, my money alone keeps them afloat.
You can wear JNCOs if you want, no one will judge you at this festival.

Other acts on Saturday worth checking out: LSD (but they'll likely be playing underground during Orbital), Sterac, Umfang, Amelie Lens, Stacey Pullen.
Other tidbits to build on what Phyre Fest already noted:
-If you plan on catching anything at the Underground stage (marie davidson might be down there) you MUST have earplugs. Like you should always have earplugs at any festival, yadda yadda yadda, but the Underground is the loudest fucking stage in the history of festivals.
-The Underground stage is amazing
-Sometimes artists underground don't tame the sound well and the bass can be overwhelming. But if they dial the sound in right it's incredible.
-The Underground stage is a moist sauna and you will die
-I agree the food is mostly typical festival food, with the exception of the Slows BBQ truck which is delicious. Get the thing that is just a big box of meat.
-The bathroom at the Underground stage is a nightmare, but the water from the sink is some of the cleanest coldest festival water I've had.
-Pro tip: there is a secret bathroom at the Pyramid stage
-The stages are all super easy to get between, you can bounce between stages in just a few minutes.
-The festival has in and out privileges, so you can leave the festival to chill in your hotel, eat, etc.
Someone make a mock schedule for this so I can worry about fake conflicts
i'm not familiar enough with all the artists to make a competent mock.
but really I don't worry too much about conflicts with this fest. there are always some conflicts that suck, particularly at the end of the night when you'll have must-see artists closing all the stages. the good news is a lot of those artists have pretty lengthy sets, it's super easy to get between stages, and the nature of dance music, at least for me, encourages more of a "party" atmosphere and less of a "festival" atmosphere. I'm more comfortable wandering between sets and catching a bit of everybody I'm interested in seeing. I don't feel a strong compulsion to catch every minute of the set.
also it's also fairly easy to wander to most stages and get a decent spot where you can hear the music well. the main stage can be an exception to this rule, sometimes for headliners it can get pretty packed out.

Normally I'm pretty OCD in that I like catching a full set of one artist instead of splitting sets. I guess I'll just have to work on that here!

lineup TBA
Return to the Source 2019 is an organic evolution of the original concept, yet carefully improved. This year our weekend at the Tangent will include 4 parties for the price of one weekend wristband, with greatly improved infrastructure and party flow. Once the music starts at No Way Back on Sunday night, the music will not end until Tuesday morning — 37 hours of continuous music. A weekend wristband will allow you to experience all this with no interruptions.
May 25 Return to the Source — Day 1 Tresor Detroit 10PM - 8AM
May 26 Return to the Source — Day 2 No Way Back 11PM - Noon
May 27 Return to the Source — Day 3 Lot Mass Noon - 10PM
The Bunker 10PM - 6AM
emphasis mine. wow. the Lot Mass party is new this year, keeps it going for 37 hours.

last year i went to Tresor, which was cool and not overcrowded, at least when i was there, midnightish to 3am.
went to no way back monday morning early, it was definitely crowded at that point but manageable. but apparently it was a shitshow for people who showed up directly after the festival sunday night. enormous lines, they couldn't get people in, confusion, overcrowding, generally poor logistics.
Dam Funk Metro Area , Magic Mountain High (live), Tama Sumo Move D, Juju & Jordash (live) The Mulholland Free Clinic (live) FUNDAMENTALS: Kyle Hall x Jay Daniel TAG: Norm Talley x Scott Grooves & friends Courtesy, Waajeed, Mister Saturday Night ELI Soul Clap x Will Renuart, DJ Minx x Ataxia Mystic Bill, LADYMONIX, Jitwam, Samone Mira Fahrenheit, Jeremy Kypta
would be excited for Dam Funk and Juju And Jordash

Holy shit, Move D? I'd go just for him. Then you've got Kyle Hall x Jay Daniel, Courtesy and the others you mentioned. How does Movement miss out on these acts?

i joined a movement whatsapp group. everyone in the group is really nice but they are all tech-house kids should i leave the group to maintain my techno purity?
i dunno the more i read the more i think they are club kids. they seem to have all met at edc mexico and are talking about getting tables at clubs and stuff. i don't know anything about that world. some local DJ just joined and told us there is a new taco place called Hot Taco and he eats there twice a week, so I learned that. also another guy told me about a place called Bobcat Bonnies that has fried bologna sandwiches and oreo pancakes.
I’m so excited for Movement. The whole crew I’m going with saw ANNA last weekend and it was a blast. I’m hoping for some after party recommendations from you all, I know I want to do the TV Lounge/Smart Bar party for sure though.

that's my plan, we'll have to meet up!
if i do a monday party i'm considering the where are my keys listed above, but i'm typically wiped by monday night so i'd say it's unlikely. tentatively i'm at the magic stick saturday and masonic sunday but nothing has even been announced so those are just guesses. i'm also open to going back to tresor @ tangent saturday, lineup dependent, but doubt i'll do NWB again. it's a classic party though.
i'm sure the afterparty options will be overwhelming this time next month. i'm checking the RA page every day.

main stage: amelie lens and charlotte de witte on main is a good call.
red bull: surprised to see floorplan here, thought for sure they'd be on stargate or underground. disclosure DJ set is surely closing this stage on their day.
underground: dj bone, dj nobu, Fjaak, LSD, heiko laux, noncompliant, oscar mulero, sterac, umfang, and volvox all underground jesus. once again i'll mostly be at this stage during the festival.
pyramid: hawtin on the pyramid, which means he will close the stage.
stargate: least exciting stage for me this year but i'll catch at least some of pullen and the saunderson b2b.
edit: i might take a crack at a mock now that we have this info.
So, I am an Irish dude who lives in Toronto. I was supposed to go to Primavera again this year but my permanent residency is costing me a lot over the next year. So one of my friends who is going suggested Movement, something we always wanted to do but its always too close to Prim.
What are the vibes like? Similar crowds to something like iii points? Is the sound decent? How expensive is it once there? Thinking of getting the train there and doing Friday and checking out the city.
Anyway, any advice, suggestions for and the guys that would be great.

Vibes are great, crowd skews just a touch older then the large multi-genre festivals. Lots of black t-shirts. Friendly attitudes all around, no one at Movement has ever made me feel sketchy or nervous. Can't compare to III points because I've never been, but I'm guessing the iii points crowd is similar to a day for night crowd, so I'll compare it to that. The Movement crowd has more hardcore fans, people really really into techno music. Such a specific genre focused festival brings in very genre focused fans.
Sound is generally good. My first year there were volume issues on the Pyramid stage (too quiet) but they fixed it after the first day. Other than that I've never had any complaints about low volume. The Underground stage, on the other hand, is very very loud. You should always have earplugs at festivals, but for real you need earplugs at the Underground stage or you just plain won't enjoy yourself because you'll be in actual pain. The mix at the Underground stage for certain performers can be way too bass heavy, like the bass frequencies take over the rest of the spectrum. But when the DJ has the mix dialed in right down there it's one of my favorite festival stages anywhere.
Expenses: at the festival itself you'll find standard fest type prices. $8-10 food items, $4-5 coffees. Don't drink but I imagine alcohol prices are similar to other festivals. Downtown is the best place to stay because that is where the festival is, but at this point downtown hotels will likely be price prohibitive ($300/night). Dearborn hotels are cheap though, 10-15 minute uber ride away. Afterparties will be an additional cost if you want to attend (and you will), $30-40 a ticket for the bigger ones, although there are cheaper options.
let me know if you have any other questions, happy to answer them.

I always hear everyone complain about not being able to get a hotel at this but there’s no shortage of cheap lodging within a 20 minute Uber ride to Hart Plaza. Also there’s always Windsor. I’m sure VRBO and Airbnb are plentiful too.

This all sounds right up my street.
My friends are all in their 40s, vinyl heads and the line up for us has always been one of the more attractive ones out there. The fact its an older crowd makes me happy. We just ditched Coachella for the first time this year so new festivals are needed.
Accom is the only issue I have so far because as you said, prices are insane but we can jump that hurdle when it comes to it. Its awesome I can just train to detroit from Toronto for a decent price.
Staying in Dearborn or a nearby smaller Detroit suburb is a nice alternative if you don't mind Ubering around or renting a car.
Also, you can do what I do and stay in Canada for MAJOR money savings on hotels. (Assuming you have a passport).
There is a tunnel shuttle that picks up/drops right next to Hart Plaza every 30min for $5 each ride, and runs til 1AM every night so easy to catch after the festival ends every night.
EDIT: Nevermind, I see you're Canadian so the passport wont be an issue. I'd definitely consider Windsor. The only bad part is if you want to hit up after parties every night, you'd have to stay out til at least 5AM before the tunnel bus starts running again.

I will see what the gang says but I am trying to get my Permanent Residency and my work visa is attached to my irish passport. Dont fancy bringing that back and forth to a festival........I have a habit of loosing things. But it could be still an option. Quick look at the prices and its so much cheaper than Detroit. Even airbnb in Detroit is crazy. We will def be doing some after parties. What time does it normally wind down at the festival itself?
