i know that's great. eris drew is my priority on friday, anything before or after is just icing. but i also want to catch bruce bailey and at least some of avalon and servito.
Olin and Sevron are cool too. I'm hanging out with family tomorrow so I'm hoping to make it in time for Justin Long. I'll probably split Eris and Lauren Flax since Eris is at No Way Back on Sunday too, and I've seen her a lot, while I've never seen Lauren before. Then close out with Avalon (hopefully I can convince everyone to stay out that late lol). Eris has been posting on her instagram a decent amount about No Way Back, so I'm hoping she doesn't just put all of her energy into that set.
I was in Windsor last night and watching them test stages from across the river. The set up looks awesome right in the middle of the city on the river. I wish Philly would do something like this....sad I have to fly out today but everyone have a good time.
Saturday: UMFANG 5-6:30 > Stacey Pullen 6:30-7:30 > Wander around for 30 minutes > Amelie Lens 8-9 > Wajatta 9-10 > LSD for a bit and Orbital after
Sunday: Circle of Live 3-3:30 > Volvox 3:30-5 > Noncompliant 5-6:30 > Channel Tres 6:45-7:45 > Circle of Live 7:45-9 > Charlotte De Witte 9-10 > still unsure between Saundersons and Richie Hawtin > No Way Back
Was in a Lyft from MGM to Motor City Casino and she drive right by TV Lounge and I heard Eris thumping and had her make a u turn so now I’m here and plan to stay throughout Avalaon.
A combo of way too much mexican food and being hungover from the night before caused us to take a long nap in the afternoon and we didn't make it in until before 7:30pm lol oops. Luckily they pushed all the set times back because of bad weather. Still had to miss UMFANG though. Saw some of Josh Wink, he was fun. Saw the first 15 minutes and then came back later for Amelie Lens, she was very cool too. Saw all of Wajatta, that was a silly fun set, liked it more than I thought I would. After going back to Amelie Lens, we left early and checked out Sterac at the underground sage, I had not really listened to him but he was so interesting. The underground stage really does feel like it's own little club within the festival. Then we stayed for the first 45 minutes of LSD. They messed up twice lol each time was so abrasive, they'd be playing one song that would be picking up it's groove then out of nowhere a song would be played significantly louder lol it was funny. I didn't think the stage was too hot though luckily, I was worried. But LSD was so dark and weird and just what I wanted to get from that experience while I was there, loved them. 90% sure my girlfriend and I were the only ones not on hard drugs at this set lol. Then we went over and saw the last 45 minutes of Orbital. They were probably my favorite set of the day, really positive energy and fun times. Them vs LSD was a hard choice but I'm glad we started with LSD and ended with Orbital. No after parties, just went home and ate leftover mexican food lol.
The line to get inside the venue wasn't too long. The only long restroom line I saw was right when we went inside and walked around to explore the grounds and the underground stage bathroom lines were a decent wait. Didn't drink so I didn't see how long those lines were. But none of the food vendor lines seemed to go slow, they do a good job at keeping people moving it seems like. I'm excited for today, but I'm not sure how early I'll get in since my group is a bunch of sloths

Sounds like a good day, even with a late start. Sorry I missed you, I was distracted from my phone once things got going.
Went in early, mostly Brian Kage underground but bounced around to all the stages before the one hour rain delay. Back to the hotel for an hour, big line to get in after that.
Once back in I bounced around stages some more, but spent most of my time at Stargate, which wasn't my plan but the sound is so good there this year. Octave One > Stacey Pullen > Seth Troxler > Carl Craig. During that I also caught a chunk of Amelie Lens, Orbital, Virgil Abloh, sterac, Umfang, even a bit of Disclosure.
Back to the hotel to get vertical before heading to the magic stick for Detroit Love, Carl Craig a2a Seth Troxler a2a Mirko Loko. It was a great time, cool venue (magic stick), diverse setlist of techno, r&b, groovy techno, one trance track, and strong house vibes after 3am. Left at 3:30am, crashed, just waking up. Also Moodymann was at Detroit love hanging out, he walked by me several times accompanied by two badass women wearing shiny silver blazers.
This festival has some of the best vibes I've experience. Every single person is into it. Everyone is friendly. The music is unreal.
Really like how diverse it is.
Only issue Ive had is a first world problem issue but the vip may not have been worth it for us. The queues for the bathrooms were longer than Ga for me. Also it was easier to grab a bear from those pop up tables. Found the vip viewing stations cool but so glad I was down in the crowd for Lens and Orbital. But ya, I found things generally taking longer in vip Thant GA . Not sure if they over booked the area or not.
Just won a game of settlers of catan, probably going to start making my way in now. I'll be wearing a black "We Still Believe" Black Madonna T-Shirt and jeans. Hopefully it doesn't rain anymore

Feel like I’ve seen a shit ton of VIP tickets so you may be right. More VIP tickets than I thought I’d see at least

Every other person you see in southeast Michigan is a goddamn dj. VIP is full every year with locals who get free passes after sales wind down.
Hawtin @ pyramid was the loudest show I've ever been at.
We walked over for a bit after starting off at the saundersons and it was just so crowded we couldn’t even get close to the stage, just sat on the big concrete stairs on the other side for a couple minutes. Definitely liked what I heard from him more than the saundersons though.
There wont be another crowd like that for me this year. Everyone single person went hard 100%
Everyone was friendly, the sound was on point. I just loved every moment of it and I am so sad its over. All my crew go to Primavera today and I am back in Toronto depressed as fuck.
When does early bird tickets release so I can be happy again?

Another great Movement.
Differences from 2018:
1. More crowded. My guess is better ticket sales because of big main stage techno names instead of hip-hop and techhouse. Amelie Lens and Charlotte De Witte were packed out at the mainstage. 2. Underground stage was not as loud, which is a good thing, and overall sounded better/less bass heavy. 3. Pyramid stage, Red Bull stage, and Stargate were all louder/cleaner sound. Hawtin @ Pyramid in particular might be the loudest show I've ever been at.
As usual I all but completely abandoned my carefully laid schedule plans. I spent less time underground than at either of my previous two movements.
Friday: TV Lounge/Smartbar was great. My first time at TV Lounge and it's a good little venue. The sound on all stages was great, good crowd but not overly crowded. I enjoyed Justin Long, Eris Drew, and Lauren Flax's live set.
Saturday: Mostly I was at the Stargate Stage, Octave One (Live) > Stacey Pullen > Seth Troxler > Carl Craig. However I also caught pieces of Orbital, Umfang, Sterac, and Virgil Abloh. Highlights of the fest day were Stacey Pullen and Carl Craig. After the fest I went to the Magic Stick for the Carl Craig a2a Seth Troxler a2a Mirko Loko set, and it was my favorite set of the day. For a sold out show it wasn't overly crowded, good little room with fantastic sound and cool lighting. Very housey / old school techno set. Shit got real old school after 3am and the crowd was loving it. Felt like Troxler was more in the mix than any of the other three, honestly it's the first time I've been real impressed with Troxler's selections, when he's on he knows what he's doing. Also as I mentioned earlier Moodymann was present at the show, accompanied by two fierce looking ladies dressed in all silver. They walked by me several times going back and forth from backstage, this was very exciting.
Sunday: Volvox and Noncompliant were good, didn't catch full sets, I don't remember what else I was doing, I guess wandering around. Caught a good chunk of DJ Minx, she is great. Caught the first twenty minutes or so of Channel Tres. Might have been Delicious Meatball Sub who recommended him? This guy could end up being a star, he had two other guys with him and they had dances choreographed for the songs, really simple and really effective, crowd was loving it. R&B/hip-hop feel but with house beats. Then Chris Liebing > Richie Hawtin at pyramid which was the highlight of the day. Chris Liebing's set was more meditative than the all out party set he did in 2017, I love both sets. Hawtin was crazy aggressive intense techno, so so loud. I watched this show from the far corner of the pyramid dance floor, and it got so crowded I realized I couldn't get out if I wanted to. Left the set about 30 minutes early which was a mistake, it was tough getting through the crowd, should have just stood my ground but I wanted to catch the end of Saunderson's set which I did and which was cool. Bailed on the Saunderson after that night because tired.
Monday: I was pretty much at Pyramid all day, Mathew Jonson live > DJ Tennis > Tale of Us. Left briefly to meet stinky and his girlfriend at Fjaak underground, it was a real pleasure meeting you!
I did step out to catch about the first 15 minutes of Floorplan, who sounded great, but I went back to catch the end of Tale of Us. I was just loving everything about the pyramid stage on Monday, Mathew Jonson was super melodic, DJ Tennis kept up that same vibe with just enough weird random selections thrown in, and Tale of Us really drove it home with the melodic/emotional/crowd pleasing set. I wanted to stick around for Stephan Bodzin but I had an 8:30am flight the next day and was exhausted. I can't regret leaving though because I only got four hours sleep, then when I landed in New Orleans I needed to drive 2.5 hours to get home, and I was not at all comfortable with my energy level on that drive, even though I was full of beignets and coke zero.
What I did right this year:
1. Staying at the Courtyard. Right across the street from Movement, I could see the festival from my window. Maybe I just got lucky but my room was very quiet, only one time on Monday night there was an insane person screaming in the hallway. They use a wristband system to discourage people packing their room out and throwing parties, which I'm sure could be circumvented but it surely dissuades some people. Will definitely book a place here for next year in June, assuming I can get a similar deal.
2. Choosing afterparties with the acts I want to see playing early (1:30am - 4:00am) rather than sunrise sets. I ain't making any sunrise sets. Big fan of TV Lounge and Magic Stick as venues, I'm betting I'll return to both.
3. Seeing more Detroit artists. In fact I should pretty much see Stacey Pullen or Carl Craig whenever they perform.
4. Pushing myself to go to the after on Saturday at Magic Stick. Once I got there I was fine and danced for 2-3 hours. I think it's important to hit up the after on Saturday because I'm only going to get more tired and exhausted over the weekend. Sunday it's harder to go out than Saturday, Monday it's impossible to go out.
What I'll do different next year:
1. Booking an 8:30am flight on Tuesday was dumb and almost dangerous considering I needed to drive for two hours after the plane landed. Even though it sucks that I won't get home until late I'm still going to book an afternoon return flight for next year to assure I get a good night's sleep Monday and don't have to skip Monday stage closers.
2. Catch more whole sets. The days I caught whole sets were much more satisfying. In past years and at times this year I get in this mindset that I have to see everybody, and it's so easy to get between stages that it's tempting to just duck out real quick to catch some of xyz artist. Also when I'm standing in place my lower back and legs start to hurt, and a brisk walk somewhere helps clear up that pain, so that motivates me to move as well. I think once I make my choice I need to stay put, enjoy the set, and embrace the reality that I won't catch everything. If I'm in pain or discomfort finding a place near the stage to sit down for a while or stretch is fine.
I am suprised I am saying this but, this is the most depressed I have ever been after a festival and it fucking sucks.
I am trying to get permanent residency in Canada and had to drop out of a lot of things this year (Primavera etc...) Its been a suck time with that and work. My friends wanted to go to this for years but it always clashes and finally, it didnt this year.
Took the train to Windsor and then across to Detroit. We got an amazing deal at the GM Marriott, 120 each for three nights. View looking down at fest, which was real handy for the evac.
Did a tour with a friend who knows Detroit and was seriously impressed. Then headed to a bar near the hotel (Brigss, great place and their rooftop had some great music all weekend) and had a cheeky night out in Detroit. We didnt do any parties this year, really went too hard during the day.
Ill be up front and say, I know very little of the line up. So being free to just follow my friends who know their shit was amazing. The discovery of new music constantly was fantastic. Although seeing Orbital and Danny Brown finally was amazing. That said, out of the weekend Id say Lens, Anna and Nastia were all my favorite of the weekend. Hawtin sound amazing but we got there a bit late. All the stages were fantastic. Underground was cool but didnt see much there. Shout out to the 10 yr old kid with a soccer ball. Me and my friend had a nice kick about with him while Noncompliant went hard.
My crew left early Monday for Primavera and I took Detroit in and came back Monday night.
Anyway, this is best crowd I have ever met. Everyone was there for the pure love of music. Everyone was dancing, if people took videos or pics it was quick and not intrusive. The amazing dancers, the music, the vibe..........it was fucking beautiful. After being to Coachella the last few years it was nice to see an older experience crowd who could handle their drugs and alcohol.
Only downside was VIP oversold or whatever. There was zero benefit for VIP apart from entering quickly Saturday.
But ya, this is a special place. Detroit itself far exceeded my expectations. Running into someone Ive known for 10 years online and never met was another great thing. This fest is now my number 1 must go to every year.
Thanks to people on here for the info and getting me excited for the fest.
Last but not least, I met Lana Wachowski. Was too nervous to go over given I like to leave well known people alone. She waved me over, we talked and she was so beautifully kinda and endearing. She took a pic with me and my friend.
