like part of the draw of going to coach is having that pick, Sean would probably veto it.
He could veto a deal with the Cardinals, but the Saints’ compensation is really between us and Arizona. Regardless of where he’s going, there will be lost early round picks.
Pick #3, Pick #67 (3rd Round)and next year’s second rounder please.
Panthers have Pick #9 and 2 second rounders this year.
Broncos as previously mentioned are hampered.
Dallas has a 1st (26), 2nd (58), 3rd (90). In 2024 they have all their high picks.
Someone’s gonna have to pay the piper.
this is lunacy. why on earth would the Cardinals trade the 3rd overall pick for Payton
The Bucs did the trade for Gruden and got a title out of it. Worth it in their eyes. Will Arizona win it all next year? Probably not but theyll likely improve. Who do we blame when it comes to the coaches contracts? The club? The agent? The coach?
the bucs had an elite defense and their QB wasn't out for the first six weeks of the next season. arguably their best defensive player just retired, their best skill position player is reportedly asking for a trade. bad analogy

Then nobody should bother getting Payton then if draft capital is just seen as too precious over coaching.

Ugh. A Bengals/Eagles SB would be a nightmare for me. A division rival vs. the obnoxious Eagles fans. Would remind me of the Yankees/Phillies World Series matchup. I guess I'd root for the Eagles, but I wouldn't like it at all.
the picks that were traded were the 21st overall in 2002 and the 31st in 2003.
and something like 8 hall of famers were drafted in those two drafts.
the previous coach, Tony dungy would win a SB 5 years later, gruden took a team that had been to 3 straight playoffs to a super bowl and then only won 10 games once, going 4-12 the year dungy won the Superbowl.
I think it's a move that worked out because they won but I don't look at it as something that people should shoot trying to recreate. and definitely not a team picking 3rd.

Eagles Bengals is fine with me. I don’t necessarily like the Eagles franchise or cliches of their fans, but it would mean they beat the 49ers. I like the Bengals and the Chiefs. And I was going for the AFC anyway in an anti-anti-conference-homer move.
yeah there's no incentive for the saints to trade him but the saints have obvious needs and even a package of 3rds would be a good haul.
We should get more than a package of 3rds. I think the compensation will be strong but reasonable due to the relationship between Saints and Payton. It seems Captain obvious, and it is, but the compensation the Saints get will come down to whatever the team he wants to coach has. Exception would be Panthers which will cost more. But yeah, we have multiple and critical needs to address.

I'm just saying if the broncos want Payton and they'll pay money and give a 2nd and 2 3rds and the other option is just not let Payton coach and get nothing that benefits no one. and if they're holding out for a top 10 pick that's ridiculous

Payton said we wanted mid to late round first which I don’t believe at least for the entirety of the deal. I’d expect the Saints to ask for more. I don’t see Gruden numbers on the table at least based on the teams being considered. But multiple high round picks should be part of the deal. I’m also not ruling out a Top 10 pick if the right deal was to surface.
Payton interviewed with Carolina yesterday and will meet with the Cardinals Thursday. Supposedly he’s got another interview in Denver though there’s conflicting shit out there including that being delayed and him moving up to a -110 favorite to coach the Broncos. So ?
Isnt it kinda rare to get the assignment just 2 years after your last? I know its based on grades and such, but theres usually a decent gap til you ref it again.

Ugh. That guy has the highest penalty yards and total penalties per game of any ref in the league. Constant penalties are such an excitement killer.

For chiefs bucs it was lopsided with 11-3 in favor of tampa. Pats falcons it was 7-9 edge to pats. I hope he doesnt get in a mood and keeps calling lineman downfield cause thats been the penalty that has been annoying af for lots of teams this season. Maybe replay assist will temper that.
