I love The National, but "Wilco is sleepier than The National because when I saw The National, the encore woke me up" is not a compelling argument.
? I've never seen either band and I'm not really sure where you're getting that argument from
My point was that you chose an uncharacteristically upbeat National song, when there are many Wilco songs that are more upbeat than nearly every National song other than Mr. November. Again, I love both bands.
I randomly put on like 10 or so wilco songs from a bunch of different albums the other day and only one came close to "Wilco shreds" so either someone needs to re direct me or they can stay
The sleepiness factor of Wilco escalated exponentially once Jeff Tweedy kicked his addiction to painkillers...so, post-A Ghost Is Born. That record, Summerteeth, Being There, and AM all have some rockers. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is definitely mellow, overall, but there's a lot of interesting arrangement stuff happening that brings the energy.
Re: YHF, I'm not going to claim it's like RTJ or anything, but it's really hard for me to do anything else as soon as those first notes of "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" start. It may not have the bpms but the arrangement sucks me in and keeps me laser focused.
Song feels like ole junkie Tweedy would show up and kick my ass if I tried to multitask.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
