I wonder if more people have been to Honolulu or Minneapolis
I’ve been to Honolulu but not Minneapolis. And I live in the Midwest!
Because of my insane sense of civic pride Minneapolis is my second favorite city on this list but this sentiment is understandable because Hawaii has beautiful weather and Minneapolis famously does not.
We need more people who think their city sucks. All of your cities can’t be the best.
I think DC should be about 6th. Will probably get passed by a few shittier cities because a lot of people have only experienced DC on an 8th grade field trip to see the monuments and think it’s “soulless,” but 6th would be about right.
yeah DC is far from soulless but of course people going just to see "the sights" and not hit up the actually cool spots might think so.
DC has something over NYC for sure in that there are natural green spaces beyond just parks easily accessible via metro orrrr car if coming from the heart of downtown (e.g. I lived in Tenleytown where it is green everywhere with bunnies bounding around). and then just a short drive away, tons of gorgeous hiking spots along the river.
any city that has no real nature accessible to it has points docked for me.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Pretty sure DC has more deer per capita than anywhere in America.

i need garageland to tell us more about Minneapolis' pros and cons since he lived there for a few years. I know little about it and thus don't really know where to rank it

I think we’ve pinpointed what’s wrong with Charlotte. You have to have some kind of waterfront.
Charlotte is v close to Lake Norman--which is a pretty lake but also super elitist because it's where like all the NASCAR dudes have their second properties haha

Pros: -First Avenue is my favorite venue I’ve ever been to -Skyway is pretty cool -Lots of cool buildings too, like the Guthrie Theatre -Public transit system that’s more robust than you would think -Unique multiculturalism -MN State Fair slaps -Local music scene that has a reputation for prioritizing great live performance, which is important here
Cons: -It’s cold -MPD sucks -It’s so cold -Suburbs filled with reactionaries -It’s really fucking cold

I would like to visit Minneapolis. I just have had a reason to yet. (I have, however, had the pleasure of visiting wondrous Rochester, MN.)
Honolulu is great to visit because all of Hawaii is great to visit. However, I spent two weeks across three islands, and Honolulu was my least favorite part.

More Pros:
- Target Field is great - Paisley Park - Juicy Lucy's - I've heard there are a few lakes - Amplifying the public transit comment, it's really unexpected and pretty good - Nicollet Mall - lawn bowling on the roof at Britt's Pub - The Local

Also best biking city there is in the u.s. Going from the river downtown biking 15 minutes to the lakes and then another 15 up to Theodore wirth all on trails is wonderful

To be fair - the vast majority of owners of lakefront properties regardless of the lake is super elitist. Lake Lure, about an hour outside of Asheville, is one of the most scenic areas I have been able to spend time at. That being said, the entire lake is surrounded by million+ dollar properties.
There’s a few lakes in the area that have did a good job of preserving the land around it - Lake Nottely in North GA is a favorite of mine.
Most people adore Charleston, and it has its perks for sure, but its an old-timey town being destroyed by grimey northern real estate tycoons and bullshit travel media causing its infrastructure to collapse from transplants and retirees. At least that's what my dad tells me. I'm still in the state of mind that my city is Seoul.
Charleston is nice but kinda sucks. I like Savannah a lot more in comparison.
This is the worst take I’ve seen in this thread. Savannah is the poor man’s Charleston. Charleston is superior in every way.

yes but NASCAR millionaires are even worse than standard millionaires

Teddy Flair you’ve got the old people of inforoo jumping with this survivor. Hell yeah.
I’m old, and my opinions on some of these cities have aged like a fine wine. (But not a California wine. Northern California is too boring to warrant consideration, apparently.)

Tons of great hiking less than an hour’s drive from NYC, or less than an hour on Metro North. That’s one of the ways my wife and I made it through the first wave of the pandemic.

…and how many New Yorkers have cars? We’re still metro-north-ing up to the Hudson Valley these days. 😭
