There’s lots of good food and plenty to do. Several good music venues. Decent public transportation options (not the best, I realize, but way better than anywhere else I’ve lived). Piedmont park is pretty nice. The High Museum is pretty cool. The aquarium is fun.
Yeah, that doesn't sound like anything that stands out about it. Also, Atlanta built their baseball stadium out in the suburbs (some would say for nefarious reasons, but I'm not going there), which is way less convenient than Turner Field was, and Turner was like 20 years old when they replaced it, which is ridiculous.
Just to be clear, I've been to Atlanta plenty of times and there's just nothing that sticks out about it to me other than traffic.
Atlanta United has done a lot for the city recently. They have a ton of fans and there’s a really strong sense of brotherhood among the fan base. The games are also a ton of fun.
Atlanta is less of “main attractions”, it’s more of a bunch of small things that amass to a nice city. There are some really nice and creative parts of Atlanta like Little 5 Points or Cabbagetown. There’s some really great restaurants too. We have a great Pride festival and a big LGBT+ community. It’s a nice blend of things to love about the south (food, hospitality, charm) with some progressive views. If you’re young, Georgia State has attracted a lot of cool things like good house parties, art events, raves, etc. We also have Tech and Emory if you’re a fuckin nerd.
Atlanta also has over 300+ parks. It’s often called the City in a Forest because it’s abundance of trees.
It’s not a stand out feature but we also get every major tour. Plus, if you’re a frequent flier, we’ve got the busiest airport in the world.
Atlanta is far from the best here but is also far from being a bottom feeder.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Worst burglary that's happened to me was in Atlanta, I guess I'm switching my vote
A guy tried to mug me in Atlanta once. I didn’t carry a purse at the time, and I had my wallet in my hands when I was walking to the train. He asked me for cash and I said I didn’t have any, so he pulled my wallet out of my hands and went through it. I genuinely didn’t have any cash, though, so he just gave me my wallet back and walked off.
You know anyone that’s been robbed at gun point? In their own neighborhood.
My coworker's son got murdered in a McDonald's parking lot here a couple of weeks ago. There were three of them in the car and the lone survivor was still shot six times. I'm not sure if he was officially in his own neighborhood but it was pretty close.
I think I’ll stay in my shit little town. All we have to worry about is meth heads stealing shit.
Did I mention I found the 💕 of my life in Nashville? Our wedding anniversary was yesterday. He has stood by me through breast and colon cancer, and all my other shit. He’s my split apart. Nashville is where we found each other and made our home.
Why should you care, you ask? You shouldn’t, I’m just explaining why I love this man and this city so much.

I was threatened by a guy that was walking by when I was pulling into the parking lot at the Tabernacle.

I've spent a good amount of time in both the Houston and Baltimore areas cause of family. They are both alright. Baltimore has higher highs and lower lows while Houston is just kinda meh. I like Houston's Mexican food better than any other Texas city. Baltimore feels like a very alive place and they have delicious crustaceans, but aside from the water its not pretty and driving there is horrific
I wonder which of these cities someone is going to say has terrible food when it's time comes.
I could've been more impressed by Seattle honestly
on a whole it's fine, near water but not really good beaches, foggy as all hell couldn't do the space needle when we went and the lady at the counter explained to the very angry gentleman in front of us that it's hit or miss a lot of the time, crazy hilly, and had some of the worst parking of any city I've been in
it was also snowing heavy heavy for the first time in X amount of years but it was sort of embarrassing how bad people were driving in it

Nashville definitely has cool stuff, but so does every other city listed here. The difference is the fratty Lower Broadway honky tonk scene is built into it's identity much more deeply than the ugly parts of these other cities. It's a magnet for for the worst kind of young corporate dbags, and the sprawl gets worse every time I go back. Lived there for 18 years and feel very comfortable saying it's the worst place I've ever lived.

see even the muggers in atlanta have that southern hospitality. hoping before he walked off he adjusted his seersucker jacket lapels, doffed his cap, and said "hope y'all have a lovely day now."

What does this have to do with food?
"I could've been more impressed by Seattle" and then I sort of spiraled into other gripes

I'll.move off Baltimore I really have no beef with it
15 Safest Large Cities in America (with a population over 300,000) Virginia Beach, Virginia Honolulu, Hawaii Henderson, Nevada El Paso, Texas Mesa, Arizona San Diego, California Raleigh, North Carolina Anaheim, California San Jose, California Santa Ana, California New York City Austin, Texas Arlington, Texas Las Vegas Riverside, California
10 Most Dangerous Cities in America (#1 is the highest cost of crime) St. Louis, Missouri Jackson, Mississippi Detroit, Michigan New Orleans, Louisiana Baltimore, Maryland Memphis, Tennessee Cleveland, Ohio Baton Rouge, Louisiana Kansas City, Missouri Shreveport, Louisiana
FWIW - I don't take a lot of stock into "the most dangerous cities" rankings... Here's why. In STL, the population of the actual city is only about 295K, but the metro population is about 2.2M, almost 10x the amount. So there's a much higher concentration of people inside of the city limits every day for work, school, etc. compared to those who actually live here. So when crime is reported inside the city limits, no matter who it's reported by, it's only compared to the actual population living inside of the city limit, which is much, much less than the actual people here every day.
TL;DR - St. Louis is really not as dangerous as everyone makes it out to be.
I honestly wish I had time to keep up with these threads. I am just voting how I see it and I can't be convinced one way or another due to lack of time to keep up.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

The Lower Broadway honky tonks may define our tourism scene. But it does not define our city.
We have changed a lot in the past few years. We are a much more diverse city now. One of the largest Egyptian Coptic churches in the world is down the street from me. We welcomed these people that were persecuted in their country and encouraged them to make a home here.
We have the largest Kurdish population in the word outside of Kurdistan. They have all brought their rich culture and food to our area.
Our downtown used to be a ghost town. Now it is vibrant, with music, shopping, and sports.
We are the “Athens of the South”
And the home of Country music
Each little section of our city offers opportunities and new things to try.
East Nashville
Green Hills
Downtown
Are we perfect, no. But we have a lot to offer to those that want to enjoy it.
