And yet everyone's using it as a pro-Denver argument
It's the same reason LA has no pros for me. Every LA pro is a 2 hour drive from the city center. LA should have been gone ages ago
I don't know. Sure, Century City and Beverly Hills are within that 2 hours. But so are Santa Monica, Malibu Beach, Topanga Canyon, Laurel Canyon, Venice Beach, Long Beach, Marina Del Rey, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, San Gabriel Mountains, Simi Valley, San Fernando Valley (at least a bunch of it), San Diego on a good traffic day, Santa Barbara which I've never been to but have been told is beautiful... Plus if you go east, and I wasn't going east, San Ber'dino (sing it like Zappa), Riverside, Palm Springs, etc.

Counting Palm Springs for LA is like counting Tampa for Orlando or something. Mostly I'm just being obstinate tho. Fuck la

Good traffic day has Palm Springs at only 1 hour and 48 minutes from LA city center.

I didn't count it as Los Angeles. I responded to you that there was other stuff within 2 hours of L.A. I've never been to Palm Springs and probably never will go there. People say it's beautiful, and I'm sure it is. But I'm not rich and don't have a pool company or a desert landscaping company either. So I probably don't need to go there any more than I ever need to go to Scottsdale.

Also, I haven't been to new Orleans since I was 11, so can someone tell me why voodoo Vegas is still here? I mean, ok Treme, but Mardi gras isn't exactly a plus and Bourbon street seems to be a shit show

Mardi Gras isnt a plus is a bold opinion i must say, and the shit show is the fun of it, right?

I mean, it's a few days a year, right? It's hopped up Santacon/spring break/St paddys, etc

it goes on over the course of multiple weeks, so yeah its not a year long thing but its a damn fun couple of weeks that you cant find in many other places! (arguably none at all bc NOLA Mardi Gras supremacy but i digress)

Ok... I mean it still doesn't really seem to justify a place in the top 5 but people seem to like it so...

that alone probably wouldn't justify it but the culture, food, etc. are certainly enough to justify it i would say. i don't really think it deserves a full deep dive right now but when the time comes esteban and Vieux will certainly be here to educate us

I'm heading down that way this summer so I need the dirt

Breaking in a new car. I still haven't been to Austin, and I haven't been to Houston since my grandmother lived there, so I figured I'd make a trip out of it. I'll hit Huntsville too to see some friends

so we're on the same team!
Fucking right on that. I need to get my ass to King's Island someday. We'll be at Cedar Point for a couple days next month. Too bad Ohio is so damn far to drive.

Most people from here don't go to Bourbon Street unless hitting Galatoire's or something like that. Otherwise, some pimps and hoes are there. And bartenders and strippers. But we don't go there to hang out drinking since we don't really have liquor laws anyway.
Then Mardi Gras is whatever you make it. You can go hang with families (uptown), Mardi Gras Indians (N. Claiborne), chumps and tourists (Bourbon Street) or the real [tm] authentic [tm] day in the Faubourg Marigny. Plus since it's a few weeks leading up, there is great satire with Krewe du Vieux as well. And Chewbacchus which all the nerds break out their best sci-fi and fantasy shit, and it's all DIY.

Summer - it's hot as shit. You can pretty much eat wherever you want because no one is in town in July or August. So the restaurants do a bunch of cool prix fix shit (e.g. Coolinary menus) for 3 courses below $39.00 or something like that. Let me know when shit gets closer and I'll throw you out 30-40 restaurant recommendations. I would have done that for deegle, but he didn't show back up in the March Madness thread. So hopefully he didn't eat at some greasy spoon NTTAWWT.
