With 3 replies in 7 hours, I'm trying my hardest to come up with the garbage-iest take in the history of takes to get this thing jumpstarted and I can't do it. I'm voting Chicago but I like all these cities left and most in the tournament actually.

I am not voting yet. I figured NOLA will be voted out this round. I think that is the wrong move for various reasons listed in the past. 3post1jack1 should post his Congo square/evolution of American music informative post though.
Also, the fact that NOLA was credited with the creation of the cocktail until the "inventor's" great grandson had to begrudgingly debunk that claim in 2005 is worthy of note. The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum (where the term was allegedly created) will still claim that Antoine-Amedée Peychaud, the pharmacist, did create the term. He might not have invented the term cocktail, but he did invent the Sazerac.
There are only three great cities in the United States, New York, San Francisco, and New Orleans. All the rest are Cleveland - Tennessee Williams
Today New Orleans will be sacrificed at the bloody altar of Inforoo ranking lists. That's not the worst outcome considering we lasted until the biggest 3 cities in the country were left. That said what needed to be said despite some occasional potshots from those who haven't spent any meaningful time here. That's okay too. As promised, I said I could name 20 iconic dishes that were invented, popularized or improved upon here that people ought to know. I don't think many other cities besides New York, no matter how big, can match that. And certainly no one can match it on a per capita basis. We aren't talking ketchup drenched meatloaf and boxed mashed potatoes. But that's okay too as plenty of America would just as soon live off of 1960's era TV dinners in between binging on fast food and Fox News. I'm sure I could probably take this up to 40, but I'm not trying to go obscure.

The only three things I dislike about New Orleans are Bourbon Street, the humidity, and the fact that it’s in such a red state. The music, the food, and the culture there are all top-notch. I’m really wrestling with whether it should go this round or next. There are no easy choices for me at this point (except one, obvs), because I love all of these cities.

I hate Bourbon Street with a passion. It was better before the 1984 World's Fair when it was anything goes. Now it's just drunken stumbling tourists, pimps and hoes.
Anyone want to verify that every one of those dishes was in fact invented in NO? I don’t want to but someone should.
Most were, but it said "invented, improved upon or popularized." Much of that stuff has origins in Acadiana and the swamps and Bayous. Begniets originated in France. My mom whose family is French but not Cajun French used to call them French Doughnuts when she'd make them at home. We didn't invent coffee. But we popularized cafe au lait (coffee with milk - the way it's done is the milk has to be warmed so when added at the same time as the coffee, it removes the bitterness). We did adopt and pretty much still do coffee and chicory. Lots of people (even here) don't like chicory. But fuck 'em. I'll drink that shit.

Nothing if you're looking for them. I'm generally not. But I'll tell you this - if you and the old lady end up coming down next year, I'll take you out to somewhere that will hopefully be memorable.
