I must be in the minority because I don't think live instruments at an electronic show are good and usually take away from my enjoyment of them. Give me a live set without live instruments any day.
It depends on who and what IMHO. If I’m seeing Opiuo, I want percussion. Rebillet needs the keys though he’s a little different creating on the fly. There are plenty of electronica bands I’d also rather see play over just watching someone DJ. A Tycho set is fine, and I’m going to be there. But Tycho live band is above it. Mount Kimbie live is I think superior. If I see Pretty Lights I want him whipping out the bass for a song. I don’t think it really has to be a thing one way or another.
Did anyone catch BADBADNOTGOOD last night? If so, thoughts?
Stylistic change without Matthew and more brass focused still experimental. I enjoyed it but that wasn’t as high energy overall as they used to be. That’s not bad, different.

I'd say most electronic shows I've seen with live instruments have been better than the DJ set version of them. I think it just makes the sound fuller when it's done right. Instead of using a drum pad, using real drums with it to make the highs hit higher and the lows hit lower if that makes sense. Works with bass too. Having an actual bass doing the bass line can make the whole thing sound fuller.
Idk. With Disclosure I've seen them both ways and I prefer them as a live set. I switched to BH for a bit and I agree that it has picked up since the first 20 mins or so.

Pretty excited to see what this Danny Elfman set looks like. With Wes Borland on guitar I get a feeling it’ll be more of his industrial sounding stuff.

Yeah I agree about Electronica bands being better with live instruments. Idk if it's fair or not but I kinda want to throw Kimbie in that electronic band category given a lot of their newer output. Rebillet feels different since his whole schtick is improv.
The composer slots always draw such a big crowd. I think it's one of the more interesting things Coach has introduced in the past few years tbh.
Yeah but remember when they showed that incredible Jean-Michel Jarre set which I hazily remember was empty (?)
2018 had several good shows just get swallowed up by placement. Jessie Ware was opposite Cardi B and got demolished, so she took an earlier main stage spot W2.
