What a shame RTJ is 'that' early. They deserve better for this half empty mainstage.
They really don't. It's not 2015.
They were headlining Shaky and Riot Fest last year and in 2020 were supposed to sub Rage. Seeing them now end up in the afternoon is just odd whether you personally think they fell off or not lol.
Jamie xx set was the best thing I heard on the repeat streams this morning. AF still wins the weekend though
I agree. I'd throw it up for Danny Elfman as well. This year was the least amount of Coachella I watched in the last 8 or 9 years. Usually I am clicking mute/unmute on multiple tv's. I just didn't find that much inspiration from much of what they showed this year. Some of the stuff I really wanted to see was "off" - Freddie Gibbs probably the biggest fuck-up in that category. I'll never knock instrumentation or bands, but it also seemed like musically simplistic, singer-fronted, 4x4 beat, 3 chord strumming, mildly talented independent music was what they showed the most. There were many great voices, but many of those acts sounded very similar to one another. Clearly I'll deal with what they give us, but I'm sure I would have gone in different directions and found more musically experimental acts to see regardless of genre. No hate overall, and thanks to them for turning me onto some new shit. But I'd give the stream a 5 out of 10 overall with a handful of > 7 acts.

a rough top 10, the SHM was probably the lamest thing, bunch of unmemorable stuff, didn't see everything, still need to see Anitta and Avalanches hopefully I can figure that out

Caught up on yesterday’s sets. RTJ we’re fine, didn’t care for their set list. Chicano Batman sounded pretty bad. Doja was fine, her setup and everything was cool, but it seemed overly rehearsed like a Grammy production. I love her music for the most part, but I thought it was a pretty paint by numbers performance.
I’ll echo everything about SHM though, I thought they were really bad. Someone used the term dated, and you’re on the nose. It’s akin to when your high school acquaintances get to getter and you see pictures of it on Facebook and you’re like “cool, Steve is still shotgunning beers, he’s 42 and divorced, but he is still wearing his alumni shirt.” In a sense, Swedish House Mafia are nothing but pure divorced dad energy.
My favorite sets I saw yesterday were Grupo Firme (looked like a huge party and the band was great) and Karol G. After Danny Elfman, Karol is my favorite set of the weekend. Great vibes, good music and the genuine sincerity of her, especially paying tribute to all the Latino/Latina artists before her. As a third generation Mexican American, I was proud to see a lot of Latino/Latina influence all over the weekend, I felt a sense of pride and Karol G put it over the top.

SHM was so bad. The problem is that their new album isn’t the huge big room banger sound and so they took a path to try and reconcile the two by making their old big room bangers mashed and given housier mixes…it totally fell flat though. The energy was all over the place and they were completely dragging from the open. They should’ve just had more confidence in their new material, some of it can still bang on the main stage….or at least make big house versions of them.
The mashups with their classics were just bad.
Also, a big reason why this “reunion” never felt special is because immediately after their “breakup” Axwell/\Ingrosso just went on to do the same shit for many years. They were basically doing the entire shm act with cheesier shit thrown in. That move completely ruined any prospects of a shm reunion being special
SHM on the stream. They haven't changed or progressed in the passed ten years. It's still the same shtick. Meh. Feel like also a big portion of the crowd is just waiting for The Weeknd. So dead.

I saw people leave after The Weeknd did a couple songs just cause they were just over it all. I hope they figure something out with set up W2 and dont have to go over twice.

I'm glad the streams are still up. it's making this monday morning a little bit easier.
besides Fred Again, Doja Cat was probably my biggest surprise of yesterday. I didn't expect that set at all. I don't think I'll catch the set, but bless her for bringing back the mexican pizza at taco bell!
SHM was boring as hell until the end, and THE Weeknd was just fine. I'll probably finish my sunday noght in the back watching that set.
