If Freddie and Madlib wanted to, they could have made their performance more interesting that way (but I guess I just hear Madlib is super dull live). But Freddie and Madlib aren't like a thing thing, they're not like Killer Mike and El-P as RTJ ya know? Madlib could have mixed in Black Star, Kanye, MF DOOM, Quasimoto etc material and made it more similar to what SHM x Weeknd did, but also not enough time in a 45 minute set to mix up two artists material I suppose. So Idk if big collabs like that would work outside of a headliner with plenty of time.
On the electronic side of things, a year out (and a lot can change) and FISHER seems way more than ready for a return, Chris Lake too, Camelphat, CID, Diplo. Gorgon City still on plenty of playlists but that may just be wishful thinking because I fucking love them.
In that Gucci/Wiz/French/Big Sean type Sahara slot, who is left from that era? Tyga? Ty Dolla Sign? They seem really committed to that slot.
Some big cheese DJ that gets invited back every other year instead of exploring new options - DJ Snake, Zedd, Garrix. Was LTC this year. Who am I kidding I am sure it will be DJ Snake again.
Would love to see them finally book Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, or reinvite Prydz (the real dream) - one of those three in the Sahara when there is a big rapper on the main would be epic but this is a lane they've had so many chances to do and they just seem disinterested.

If we are guessing that Weekend 1 will be April 7-9th next year, I was just able to get a hotel on retainer for 427.66 total at the Delos Reyes Palm Springs from the 6th-10th on booking.com for those interested. No prepayment needed pay at the hotel next year.
i think w1 will be the following weekend, i would do that one just in case
Seems I jumped the gun, I’ll look into next week then.
We need Prydz to shut down the Outdoor like Bassnectar did in 2019 or King Gizz this year. I think I'd rather have him with his own production rather than use whatever the Sahara design is that year

Hey I mean, don't tempt me with a good time. I just want something to be in the Sahara at night that is vaguely electronic and actually uses the tent visuals. I have no problem with rap in the Sahara but watching that Duke Dumont set on the streams just made me pine for big DJ visuals in there. The trend this year for the rappers seemed to be a much bigger emphasis on physical sets rather than visuals. Which is super cool too but that tent has such amazing visual capabilities and nobody seems to want to let it rip.

I've only seen Wayne once, this was in 2019, and it was a high quality rap show in my opinion. Lil Wayne is bigger than Kid Cudi. Kid Cudi played the Sahara by choice, he was supposed to be on Main. His crowd super overflowed the Sahara too (weekend 1 anyways). After everyone left Tame, by the time people got to the Sahara for Cudi it spilled out so far that people just left because they couldn't see.
Wayne's run the past 2 years or so has been super strong, if he drops an album of the same quality, I don't see how he's less than a sub, mayyyybe 3rd on his day at the lowest.
2Chainz could be another "prime in the early 2010s" Sahara booking though

Might be time for Deadmau5 cube version 4.0 to make its debut. He is long overdue to come back and he might as well show off a new version of it. Although 3.0 would be fine since its in 4k. Wonder if he would be fine with Sahara or want main stage.
I think its safe to assume Le Tigre gets back to the polo fields after TANP. They had to have pulled some strings to make them an exclusive this year and def can still keep them as the first one for next year til they hit the circuit.

The Arctic Monkeys are headlining a bunch of festivals in 2022. Are they in that kind of limbo zone where they're too big to sub, but not popular enough to headline?

Nah they could sub. They peaked in popularity with AM (in America at least) and were subs then. A new album could change things but I don’t think Tranquility Hotel boosted their profile at all.
Deftones are one of the few "second line rock acts" that have gone on record saying they actually really want to play Coachella and should be finishing touring their new album cycle around then.

Make it happen GV.
Eh, not after they kicked Sergio to the curb. Friend who is a huge deftones fan saw them last week when they came through LA and said it was the worst set he has seen them play and with Sergio gone its much much different. GV has had like 15 years to put em on there and it hasnt happened. Why did they book Crosses before Deftones. Might as well just get Team sleep instead since that would be much more interesting. If theyre gonna go all out, book Rammstein. That would be insanity on the Outdoor to close. Or Babymetal. A cool punk one would be the Distillers. You can put em on the main at 4pm and draw a decent crowd as they have put Bad Religion and Rancid in that spot before.
I really want the to book The Armed. Either they close Sonora and get an hour set or maybe just in Gobi mid afternoon. either way it would be crazy and it would turn some heads.

Weird that you want to die on this hill. Recently they have had artists like migos, post Malone, kid cudi, etc. No reason to think they couldn’t pull it off
Wayne was like 8th at bonnaroo when his popularity was about at its peak and he didn’t play the main.
