it's not really 2023 relevant I don't think, but I continue to be surprised Lucius hasn't played Coachella yet. Timing worked well this year and still no dice.
Kid Cudi played the Sahara by choice, he was supposed to be on Main. His crowd super overflowed the Sahara too (weekend 1 anyways). After everyone left Tame, by the time people got to the Sahara for Cudi it spilled out so far that people just left because they couldn't see.
No it didn't. I walked right into the middle Sahara entrance and had a fine spot there for Cudi both weekends.

Maybe it depends where you were and when you got there, but the walk from Tame to Cudi was untenable for my group. It was an absolute shitshow. We didn’t even get close enough to hear Cudi and bailed for the Major Lazer do lab set that night. I’m sure the right side was fine, but coming from the main? Impossible. And we left before Tame ended.

I mean, we got there as he was already playing, and had zero problem walking into the back entrance of the tent, not the side entrance by the bathrooms where it's always easy to get into.

My experience was similar to this, coming from the main stage that side of the Sahara was spilled out so far. I think I can see what Mikey is saying though. We wrapped around and just headed for the Green Path exit back to the campsite since we couldn't see at all, and the backside wasn't as packed as the sides, so it was probs easier to get in that way but we didn't try.
Just wondering could you give me some popular acts you think are more popular than Wayne? And less popular?
Cause outside of frat houses and people who get their hits from annual DJ Khaled albums I don’t hear much clamoring for Weezy F lol.
Like he’s much bigger than his peers (TI, Jeezy, Luda, Chainz) but he’s not bigger than any current top hip hop act (Lil Baby, Thug, Post, 2018 Migos, 2019 Cudi, Uzi, Youngboy, Durk)
I would put current Wayne over Durk, 2019 Cudi, 2018 Post, 2018 Migos (By 2018 they already lost a lot of their 2017 steam. Culture 2 didn't hit like we thought it would), and Young Thug
I wouldn't put him over current Post, Lil Baby, Playboi Carti, or Uzi though. For slight context, when I saw Wayne it was at a festival in 2019, headliners were Ozuna, Lil Wayne, and Post Malone.
Wayne is definitely one of the more interesting hiphop artists of all time, though. Depending who you ask, someone may say he's super overrated or someone may say he's one of the most important artists in hiphop history. Lot of younger rappers are directly influenced by him and look up to him
But if strong majority of Coachella goers are 90s babies now, I think it's safe to say that he would draw a pretty large crowd because that demographic has an attachment to him, similar to how Cudi fans are, regardless of his recent music not being as good. Idunno, I just personally think he'd be best on an outside stage but it's def possible he'd take the Sahara. Also have to factor in the possibility of Drake and Nicki/Young Money/Cash Money showing up.

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s announced a few shows, signed to a label, and promised new music this fall. Their LA show is the Hollywood bowl (NY is Forest Hills Stadium). Where do y’all think they’d end up? #3 on their day?

it's an unpopular opinion but I still support Coachella moving to 6 headliners. think of it as Paul getting one spot and Paul's daughter getting the other spot. Outdoor is probably plenty big enough for most "Paul Headliners".

End of the first line at best. They will have them headline TANP with Arcade Fire next year so its a trade off on billing. We never got to see a poster that had AF on it for this year which wouldve been interesting to see.
I support Rufus as a sub, they were fantastic at Gov Ball last year and i’m sure theyll be amazing at Boston Calling. as a big Flume fan i will say they Smoke him live so i’d love to see what they do with main stage visuals

If RÜFÜS DU SOL was going to play again off of Surrender, it would’ve been this year. They’re not gonna come back to sub next year off an album over a year old.

How many artists played Coach this year from their 2020 albums cause of covid. Plenty of victory lap bookings happen and covid messed with some stuff. Kacey played in 2019 with Golden Hour being a year old and with a grammy win.
IHG hotels (Holiday Inn) are now available to book for likely W1. I booked Palm Desert across from the Albertsons shuttle stop for $1450 Friday through Monday on a refundable AAA rate with no deposit.

I feel like Rufus needs a live show refresh before they come back. Saw them at OSL late last year and it felt incredibly similar to the show they performed at Coachella in 2019.
Justice should be close to releasing new music right? I feel like they could be in play to return next year. Do they still get slotted 3rd on their day like in 2017?
as far as EDM subs, wonder if we see Calvin Harris come back. He seemed willing to take that billing in 2020 and i think the only reason he wasnt booked this year is bc his new show wasnt ready yet
For EDM headliners/subs, it seems we know our likely players. Who we think is most likely between: Calvin Harris Rufus du sol Odesza Justice Martin Garrix Chem bros

Kacey wasn't a sub though, she was on the third line and there's a big difference between that and subbing. Point being, by January 2023 there will be better choices for subs with more recent or forthcoming work. They're not gonna blow a sub spot on someone like RÜFÜS who's last album came and went and didn't make much more noise than their previous effort.
And obviously things looked different this year due to COVID but I'm not expecting Coachella to keep booking holdovers from the past year. Most likely Coachella will move forward with more fresh bookings.
