What many seem to be missing is that the reason why many Frank Ocean fans are so devoted to him is because he’s a successful queer Black man in the r&b/hip-hop-adjacent space.
So given that much of Frank Ocean’s fan base connected with him because they are also queer, Black or both, replacing him with a band of straight white dudes is the ultimate slap in the face.
Fuck Frank for sure, but also fuck anyone who is telling fans of marginalized identities that they should just accept a replacement like Blink-182 without complaining.

I mean I am literally holding axs tickets right now. For some people (who often doesn't know about the scope of aeg's operations and probably went to aeg shows themselves without knowing), Coachella and Anschutz are synonymous. I'm not making that point, I'm just posing a hypothetical about what someone who really is invested in Frank's place in popular culture might think

You can be black or queer and resonate with Frank's music / want to see him without holding yourself to a burden of fighting the evils of homophobia through every single personal decision you make (in terms of ethical consumption).

This doesn’t work at all. His most famous sets are FYF and Panorama. GV also put those on and everyone was knowledgeable of Anschutz at that point in time.

And he literally talked about going to coachella with his brother as an attendee even when he wasn’t performing. It’s hard to imagine Frank cared about Anschutz.

To think I wanted to spend like 4-5k to do W2 with a couple friends, sure the line-up is insane but being a Frank stan for years and the thought of seeing him for the first time was the biggest cherry on top. Good thing we didn't pull the trigger like that. Can't even phantom what Frank stans are doing rn, hearing this news yesterday, already on their way to the desert, setting up camp, not knowing who will even replace him.. What a dumpster fire man.
