That’s the worst cell phone signal I’ve ever experienced at a festival. Mostly I thought it was a great day, but we had VIP today and it also is one of the better VIP experiences I’ve seen - the viewing areas, which are my priority, we’re fantastic, especially at the main stage.
The Warehouse situation was bad, though. They stopped letting people in halfway through fred again and my wife and a friend both were unable to return to us after going to the bathroom. It’s a massive warehouse; feels like it shouldn’t be hitting capacity.

If you go by just the comments people have made on Reddit and social media, they’d have you believe Portola is another Fyre Fest. I swear these people have never been to a festival before or been in a very large crowd before.
The warehouse reached capacity during Fred and Charli (which… should’ve been expected), the sound in the warehouse wasn’t great and there needs to be more food vendors but everything else went swimmingly. I’m excited for day 2.

The bad : The Warehouse situation- literally could have a hundred entrances to the place, but you have one……with like 3 exits. Hopefully, they do something about it overnight.
Cell phone service- getting an Uber was like 🙄
The good :
The Vibes- they were there. Just took a minute ( and Jungle to start)

It sounds like a lot of people hadnt come back to live music or large events yet. I mean the vids of people jumping the gates to get into the warehouse is not a good look. Weird how they couldnt figure that out. And all the complaining Ive read just drowned out any talk on performances.

I have a feeling a ton of those complaints won’t be there today. First day running any festival has issues, and today is much lower sold it seems. It’s gonna be a great day.
Debating whether to upgrade to VIP today (we split the difference originally, had VIP yesterday and GA today), that VIP viewing area at the Pier stage is massive and wonderful and would be great for Chems. They should probably shrink it by like 25% because it never got close to full.
Not to be broken record guy but 3 things really brought the vibe down just a bit:
Damn, glad I’m solo because of the nonexistent cell service but met tons of great people in search of their friends.
I saw way less music because there was no way one could pop out of warehouse for 30 minutes and make it back in.
Leaving via muni or Lyft was a nightmare. I ended up walking 3 miles toward my hotel before paying some rando taxi 10 bucks to take me last of the stretch.
Top 3 full sets:
Bicep Fred again.. Pinkpantheress
Note: Basically on rail for Arca but was getting anxious waiting so bounced = fail of the night
Muni worked out well for me. I just jumped on the one heading downtown. I wish Prospa wasn't so early today since I want to spend a few hours checking out Folsom. Oh well if I end up not making it in for them at least I saw a great Prospa set at Primavera.

The crowd was actually amazing at the shows I was at. Who gives af if someone jumps a gate

aint no wall high enough that would stop me from getting into charli so i actually more so judge the folks who opted to miss out instead of finding their way in, barricades be damned
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

The major issues was the only had one entrance and all of those barricades were not needed. Warehouse is huge and it never truly hit capacity. I don't expect it to be an issue today since there are not as many big acts playing in there.

Oh totally, but just anyone on the outside sees that and just thinks nobody is running the show properly and such. Just optics more than reality. Ive done that fence jumping before so Im not bashing anyone who was trying to get in there when you knew there was room. Too many people now make snap judgements and call everything fyre fest if they dont get everything to their liking. Like im sorry, but food and booze is going to cost a pretty penny right now. Its been that way since April. Its always the little things that make festivals either have no issues or be a potential shitshow.
Yesterday had very high highs and some shitty lows. Got there later than I wanted. Caught the first 10 mins from Caroline but the sound bleed from Avalanches was so unbearable, I had to leave. Decided to try for Fred Again.. but could barely get about 1/2 in. The crowd was MASSIVE. He's one of the hottest dance talents right now so I think it was a misfire having him in there. Even Charli's crowd wasn't that big.
The Good:
The talent: Saturday line up was so stacked. Charli is such a star. Arca set was bonkers. Those machines she had were ridiculous. I think she credited them to Author and Punisher? I couldn't hear but I believe that's what she said. Jamie XX set was so sick. Techno into jungle into house. Why didn't he use that giant disco ball behind him though?
Very few lines to get to the bathroom and drinks. I heard merch line was pretty easy too. Food is another story.
The layout: Not too hard to walk everywhere. Having only 4 stages was a plus.
Shuttles were very easy to find and take. No long waiting there.
The crowd was really great. Everyone was dancing and there was so much enthusiasm from everyone I saw. Sure, people jumped a small exit only entrance for the warehouse but could you blame them? You paid over $400+ for a ticket and you had to wait an hour to see the main acts you wanted to see? I could hear people extremely annoyed as we were herded into the barricaded line. I gave up trying to see Bicep because of it.
The bad:
The warehouse: Did anyone realize that having ONE GA entrance for 30k people was a bad idea? Was there any communication with security staff of what to expect? I get it, it's in its first year but GV has years of experience with this. It looks even worse after the Travis Scott incident and the real threat of crowd crush.
Bare bones production: This is meant to be an electronic festival so I would think some more extensive lighting, maybe some art installations or something that wouldn't make the pier look so much just like a pier. Take after what Day for Night did and utilize every inch.
Food was ass for being so expensive. I didn't have to wait long but I heard another people had to wait an hour for shitty tacos.
Only 12 oz beer cans and bottles? Really? And they were $12-15 too? If i'm paying that much, get me a 16oz at least.
Last but not least, the cell service. I had zero service as soon as I got there. I get it, festivals with massive crowds disrupt service but this was especially bad. I've managed to get service at Riot Fest, ACL, Cruel World, Primavera but never completely off for an entire fest. I feel bad for those who needed to get an uber.
All in all, the talent made up for the shortcomings. Top sets:
1. Charli XCX 2. Arca 3. Jamie XX 4. Jungle 5. Fred Again.. (only because i was so far back, the sound was off and didn't watch for long) 6. Caroline Polachek
Headed to the fest around 1ish. I'll be in a white Ghost in the Shell shirt.

Agree with everything you said for pros and cons.
Damn I keep hearing how good arca was, kinda regret not going now.

it didn’t even reach capacity. The issue was security just decided not to let a single person it at a certain point until they had people standing in line for over an hour without moving so the crowd just said fuck it and pushed past security anyway.
Pharoah Sanders died yesterday morning, FP was supposed to play Making Time in Philly with FT but dropped due to “personal reasons”. I also saw him play with FT on Friday at Forest Hills but with about 45 minutes left in the set he dipped off stage for whatever reason and didn’t show up again

Supposedly the fire marshall told them to stop letting people into the warehouse.
Caught the last Prospa songs since I got a cheap and fast Uber near Folsom. Seems way less crowded compared to this time yesterday. Cell service even works!
