My friend Celo is opening the Here stage on Friday! Was expecting him at Aqua or Incendia, pleasant surprise to see the homie be the first act on the Here stage for 2023.
If I can get up early enough on Friday I will try to be in attendance. Friday's lineup is def my favorite... We plan on going real hard that day and it's gonna get real fn weird. We def have to meet up at Okee, homie.

I probably would have gone Goose, but it would have been tough. Odesza is an act that may not tour much after this and take another hiatus- Goose is going to be rockin' our socks for a good long while.
Gonna be doing this until lineup drop, hope y'all like it. Tell me to fuck off if you don't. Depending on how busy work is, might make two posts a day so I can actually get through the lineup. All of these reviews will include at least a full hour of listening to their Spotify tracks.
Okeechobee Act of the Day: Break Science "Raised and influenced by the rhythm and culture of New York City, Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee fuse generations of the city's rich musical legacy with their own deep-rooted connection to hip-hop heritage. Merging their production styles seamlessly, the duo creates a refreshingly original take on electronic music. The live show transcends expectations with Lee's seasoned trip-hop/dub/jazz vibes on keyboards and Ableton Live, and Deitch's thunderous breakbeat style on drums." -From their Spotify
Spent an hour listening to them for the first time today, they have a groovy, funky, lo-fi beat. Found out today their drummer is the dude from Lettuce, another favorite of mine. A lot of their tracks blend hip hop beats into their lo-fi funk for a style I've immediately become a huge fan of. The lineup doesn't note whether this'll be a DJ set, so hopefully this will be a live set. They'll be playing on Thursday, and after my listening today have immediately become a set I can't miss.
Final Review: 9/10
Break Science rules. I once missed Kendrick in like 2013 to see them and wasn’t disappointed regardless if I would have seen them another 15 times in the years to come. Lee is also in Pretty Lights Live band when they are together. I don’t know if you got to it but listen to Brain Reaction featuring Lettuce and Redman off their first album Seven Bridges. Personal note is that I’ve partied with these guys many times, and they are both cool as shit.

I haven't abandoned the artist of the day, I've got 4 or 5 listened to, I just need to do the write ups lmao. Finding out that some of these deep names on the lineup aren't even on Spotify- yoikes

Okeechobee Act of the Day: Soul Clap
Soul Clap: Soul Clap is an American DJ and production duo from Boston, Massachusetts. Active in the club scene since 2001, the group has released a number of mixtapes, EPs, singles, and albums. In 2012 they released their first full-length album, EFUNK. According to XLR8R, Soul Clap "[tempt] the listener into the darker, more abstract corners of house (and its relative offshoots) by dressing them up with smooth, jazzy trimmings."[1] The BBC wrote "they blend neon-splattered nostalgia with a crisp futurism thanks to their experimental production techniques. -Wikipedia
Genre: Funk, disco, house, hip hop, reggae Final Review: 8/10 I really enjoyed these guys. When schedule comes out I'm looking forward to seeing where they're at, Thursday is kinda stacked for me at this point so I hope to see them.

Soul Clap is a lot of fun. They've played the Here stage before, but I think it's gonna fit better at Jungle 51.

Okeechobee Act of the Day (Number 2 today): Gilligan Moss
Gilligan Moss: Eclectic duo Gilligan Moss make upbeat, kaleidoscopic dance-pop that incorporates playful yet yearning vocals into funky, intricately arranged rhythms. They have has described their music ambiguously as "déance" or "garden-disco" and have cited Talking Heads as a major influence, predominantly due to their sense of rhythm and character-based lyrics, the latter of which the duo have utilized heavily in their music. Initially a pseudonym for a songwriter simply known as Evan, Gilligan Moss released debut EP Ceremonial in 2015 before becoming a duo with the addition of Ben, Evan's friend since childhood. - From their Last.FM
Genres: Electronic, Disco, Dance
Final Review: 9.5/10 These guys have some amazing tracks, I really enjoyed my listen and actually went a little farther in them than other artists I'd listened to. Their set is gonna be a must see for me.

Okeechobee Act of the Day: Mild Minds
Mild Minds: Melbourne-born, LA-based producer Mild Minds unveils his debut album MOOD, via Foreign Family (ODESZA, RÜFÜS DU SOL) / Counter Records (Maribou State/ Tennyson). Aptly named MOOD, Mild Minds’ debut full-length arrives as a nine-track, lo-fi dance masterwork, taking an introspective dive into the current state of international affairs. An experimental opus of genres and tempo, Mild Minds exquisitely mimics the intensity and fragility of human emotion, while firmly cementing his personal brand of ambient electronica. After receiving a Grammy nomination in 2020 for ford.'s remix of his debut single, Mild Minds found the adoration of Annie Mac and BBC Radio 1, SiriusXM's Chill, and Australia's Double J Radio. -His Website
Genre: Lo-fi, Techno, Electronica
Final Review: 6/10. Honestly just not for me, I want to get into techno a little more but this isn't the artist for me. I like listening to stuff that's a little more upbeat when I'm walking so that might have come into play, I may enjoy this at the end of the night but it looks like they're an early Aqua set- opening the day. Might be good to chill to this to save energy for that late night Carlita set.

Review: 8/10. Honestly, not my cup of tea but I can see the talent. I've heard wonders about their live shows, even if the genres aren't my favorite I look forward to seeing what they put on. Plan on hitting this set and going in with a completely open mind.

Okeechobee Act of the Day: Lil Yachty
Lil Yachty: Miles Parks McCollum (born August 23, 1997), known professionally as Lil Yachty, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. He first gained recognition on the internet in 2015 for his singles "One Night" and "Minnesota" (featuring Quavo, Skippa Da Flippa and Young Thug) from his debut EP Summer Songs.[3][4][5][6] He released his debut mixtape Lil Boat in March 2016. In June 2016, Yachty announced that he had signed a joint venture record deal with Motown, Capitol Records, and Quality Control Music.[7] - Wikipedia
Genres: Hip hop, trap, pop rap, mumble rap
Final Review: 5/10. There's a lot more depth from other hip hop acts on this lineup. Yachty's flow and lyrics seem uninspired, and I found myself skipping more than one song on this deep dive. Found myself waiting to be done listening.

I kee them hoes like a ferry. My hair be red like a cherry.
Haha. Yachty is a pretty bad rapper. And his lyrics are generally stupid. Sometimes live his DJ is okay. —————— New Break Science released today featuring Niko from Brazil rapping. I guess the new album will be out in the spring or summer. Sounds pretty fn good.

So his new album is actually not bad. Definitely unexpected and much better than my haterade 0/10 rating.
