Never thought I’d have said this a week ago, but Okee being the only major variety festival (that’s announced so far) to get Lil Yachty was an inspired booking and a big w
Word. I've only seen him twice over the last few years, and he was certainly bad. But his DJ(s) dropped a lot of trap to make it a little more fun and less terrible than I thought it would be both times. Plenty of head shaking moments await, but there's also some fun and on top of that, you already know he doesn't take himself all that seriously.
I went in not too excited about the lineup but as I listen I am devastated that I'm gonna have to miss some of these acts. Bought into the haters badmouthing the lineup before listening, and now I have a bunch of new artists I'm stoked to see.
It appears that Sherelle is no longer on the lineup. I've messaged Okee and Sherelle and commented over and over on their posts but no response. Lots of drum n bass to still be had but I was rly pumped for Sherelle's brand of Jungle & UK Hardcore.
On Gem and Jam’s Facebook page they posted a post from LSDream about his Lightcode set. Seems pretty cool. Too lazy at work rn to figure out how to post the pic but it is on their fb page rn. As of like 50 min ago.

Okee's lineup always has a bunch of hidden gems that most people look over. I'm extremely happy with the lineup this year... I might've switched some headliners out, but we're getting huge euro acts like Nia Archives, who is headlining fests around Europe and the UK. She, and others like Wilkinson, etc., are nowhere near other lineups in the US this year. We definitely got it good, homie. We about to get completely lost in the portal.

But they did add Eazybaked b2b KllSmth and Barry Can’t Swim. I’m so bummed, Sherelle was a highlight for me

I do love Eazybaked and kLLsMTH but I was really looking forward to that Sherelle set... That's not a usual stateside booking.

Those quackheads over at Reddit are slamming me for saying I saw Subtronics there last year walking around backstage. Dude telling me they were "touring in Canada" at that time when the shows got cancelled. Dude's source on Subtronics not being there is "trust me bro I have insider info" when he made a post last Electric Forest begging for a ride from the airport. These damn wooks.

Thought I was going to miss Okee for the first time this year but I found a super cheap flight into Orlando and decided to send it for Saturday. Hoping to be in the grove by 4:00 PM and on my way back to the airport by 5:00 AM.
Sets I am most looking forward to:
1. Tinlicker (Live): It remains to be seen what the "live" aspects of this set will be, but I've heard good things about their live shows so I have high hopes for this. Would have preferred this to be on the Now stage like Amtrac last year but the Here stage should be fine
2. Local Natives: I love their sound and have been trying to catch them for years. I missed them in 2018 so it feels fitting to get another shot this year
3. PoWoW: This has the potential to be a letdown with it's past track record, but the ingredients are there for this to be a really unique and special show
4. Earth, Wind, & Fire: I've heard mixed reviews about their current live shows, but they've got hits and it will be nice to check this box. Wouldn't be shocked if they are at the PoWoW in some form.
5. Inner Wave: This band was a lineup discovery for me. Really dig their sound and hope to catch them on Be before Local Natives
On a sadder note...one of the folks setting up the fest is saying this could be the last Okee. Really hope this doesn't end up coming to fruition, but I have to say that I'm not surprised about this.

Tragic if true. Okeechobee has been instrumental in so many huge changes in my life. The messages I receive from the universe on those grounds are undeniable.
Looks like the property has been listed for sale. For those that don’t know, the fest is held on a failed housing development.
Soundslinger/Insomniac have never owned the property. From the listing it sounds like the owners are trying to market it as as a development again.
if this is true I could easily see this still surviving til next year. land development is moving incredibly slow due to construction costs and interest rates.
I assume most of you all are aware of this but just in case
Have always really loved how Big Boi sounds live. Crisp, clear, knows that he has a microphone so he doesn't need to yell. You hear the personality / inflections in his voice in a way that I think is still pretty rare among rappers.

I mean Florida is a prime location for fests year round. Okeechobee is fairly accessible. It would be interesting to see them try to coordinate even more fests at the location, if they are looking to sell all of the land, perhaps insomniac buys it and hosts more fests here? They've been branching out and doing more fests recently, their own version of Lost Lands in the south (make Forbidden Kingdom a camping fest)could draw a lot of people, keep Okee as a multigenre, add a jam fest, rock fest, etc.
I love the venue. Sunshine Grove last year is where I found myself, and said goodbye to a lot of things that I had been holding onto. I'll be sad to see it go if we do lose it.

Same, bubba, it's definitely hallowed grounds... There's a lot of energy and magic that has been building there over the years.
