With 2 headliners listed each day I really hope they do conflicting headliners, sitting through Foos/Lumineers/Paramore when I could be at YYYs/Alanis/QOTSA changes things majorly for me
Foos - pretty cool that BC got to be the first to announce FF's return, even if other festivals announce soon after (ie Roo) Lumineers - fine I guess, I'll never understand their ability to move tix but then again I'm just an internet poster who knows squat Paramore - they can headline BC (and they'll be great, too) YYY/Alanis/QOTSA - very solid subs, especially considering BC was gonna trot out the 1975/RTJ/Jason Isbell in 2020 Fri Undercard - pretty light IMO but nothing offensive to me Sat Undercard - solid bookings with the flaming lips & Mt Joy. Also LOVED Joy Oladokun when she did ACL a few years back, definitely a can't-miss set Sun Undercard - awesome day of music...probably gonna suck with the conflicts, but the first five names are all great gets + Genesus Owusu is a phenomenal performer
All said, happy for my BC brotheren. My sister lives in Boston and just had her first baby...maybe I should come up for some, er, "uncle time" May 26-28

super bummed that we got Lumineer'd... but even if you swap in someone good, this lineup is super underwhelming.
friday having National>YYYs>Foo is awesome, but i don't care about a single other name on that day which sucks
i still think paramore wouldve been a great 4th but is a weak 3rd, though QOTSA are a strong 4th so i guess that kinda makes up for it. the problem for me is that i just never cared about QOTSA.
saturday sucks (the lumineers need to disappear or something) but there are deeper hidden gems there, like Joy Oladokun who rules
I keep wondering if they are going to beef up the Blue Stage to make it essentially the 2nd tier stage, but the way they have the line up set up the top lines really look like the Green and Red stage closers to me

And the first names on the 2nd lines are most likely the blue closers, so The National will conflict with Yeah Yeah Yeahs (dammit), Noah Kahan will conflict with Alanis, and Bleachers will conflict with QotSA.
Sunday is incredible but this is definitely the worst lineup theyve ever had. also yea like zero BIPOC this year
I'll have to research a few of the undercard, but you're right. Also, no electronic acts?
Electronic acts have been on borderline life support here for a bit, seemed like they needed to be a clearly popular and accessible act to be in consideration.
is YYYs worth friday admission? i’d only want to see the top 3 that day
Depends on the crowd. Had a great time at Firefly 2013, lots of people were camped out and it was a good vibe. The Governors Ball crowd in 2018 was lame, lots of half-interested folks and drunk 30-year olds.
You will definitely hear Karen O say Boston Calling! Yeah Yeah Yeahs! Friday Night! a bunch in case you forget where, what, and when it is that you are seeing.

Yeah, that would be my guess. Flaming Lips closer on the Blue would make some sense to me too
Tickets still being $300+fees isnt terrible given some of the jumps we have seen in pricing this year, didnt coachella go up like $200 or something stupid like that?
Of course, the first thing you notice when you see the poster is the top six billed performers and to say that I wasn't happy about those six names is an immense understatement.
The Foo Fighters are probably the only artist I'm excited about seeing among the six. I've never really been a big fan and don't anticipate streaming any of their albums before the festival, but I watched the webcast of the London tribute show and they were great. I'll probably wind up enjoying Alanis Morissette a lot more than I anticipated (although I may opt for Noah Kahan if they conflict.)
I actually don't know the YYY's fairly well; they're not the 00's NYC band I had hoped to see on the poster.
As for The Lumineers, the only "Hey Ho" I want to hear at Boston Calling would be coming from the Zombie Ramones.
I'm not a QOTSA fan at all. I'll take a band that takes its cues from Lennon & McCartney over blues-derived riff-o-rama any day of the week.
I'd actually rather see Paramore than at least two of the other top six, which tells you what I think about the top six in general.
On the other hand...
Forgetting about where everyone is on the poster for a minute, tell me that I'm going to be seeing The National, The Flaming Lips, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and the lineup seems like a win to me. Throw in The Beaches, Bleachers, Maren Morris, The Walkmen, and The Linda Lindas, and that's all a plus.
However, there's going to be a huge clusterduck on Sunday. Nobody's going to be able to see all of King Gizzard, Bleachers, Maren Morris, The Walkmen, and The Linda Lindas, between direct conflicts and time spent walking across the grounds.
The biggest surprise for me is that they're bringing back artists who played last year, mostly locals.
The thing to keep in mind here is that a lot of the artists we may have individually and collectively hoped to see in the top few lines may wind up filling out the calendar at The Stage at Suffolk Downs.
I'm probably going to go for regular GA here. I don't think that the GA+ delivers that much more value for the cost, and I'd need to like the poster a lot more to spring for VIP.
My biggest question here is whether the presence of the top two names each day in larger font and set apart from the rest of the the day's performers means that there won't be unopposed headliners and that each of those two artists will be performing at the same time. Any number of stage realignments could make this possible, especially use of the stadium
