I will bet money that Paramore will not be a Green Stage headliner at Boston Calling in 2023. Period. Full stop.
The last time they played Boston was a headlining show at the 3,500 seat Wang. That's not a BC headliner, since the move to the current location.
I’m not totally disagreeing with you here but I think you’re massively underestimating their draw, they’re playing purposefully small venues this tour and every show has sold very well with crazy resale. They’re almost certainly touring next year and I would guess that they’ve booked arenas in the US
They've got a lot of dedicated fans, but they don't have wide recognition among people who aren't fans. A good top line booking has at least one song that everybody, ages 8-80, knows.
I pay way more attention to popular music than most people my age, and I can't name a single Paramore song without using a search engine. That's not a great top line booking at a festival of this size.

DCFC begins a US tour May 31st. No Boston, definitely possible here considering they headlined almost 9 years ago. could fit the Modest Mouse spot pretty well

"A good top line booking has at least one song that everybody, ages 8-80, knows." ---- This is Misery Business
The Strokes were supposed to headline this festival last year. I assure you that more of the demographic that goes to music festivals knows Misery Business than knows Last Nite. Just look at their play counts on streaming/youtube.
Did you see their crowd at ACL this year? I would venture a guess of about 90% of the crowd was at Paramore, biggest crowd of the weekend. I'd argue they definitely have recognition among people who aren't dedicated fans.

definitely see this one happening. Blue closer imo

I've seen the title, but never heard the song. There's nothing iconic in their repertoire that everyone knows. Even Grandma knows Enter Sandman, Lose Yourself, and Mr. Brightside. (Yes, The Strokes may not have that iconic song, either, but they haven't played Boston since 2006, which made it a strong booking.)
Also, the Boston Calling demographic shifts depending upon who's playing, as was obvious from the crowd on Sunday this year. When you've got an urban festival that's a short walk from a main subway line, you get the locals who like that lineup (or the vibe). You're right about the demographic mattering, though, when it comes to camping and travel festivals without notable local attendance. Boston Calling always draws a lot of locals who like the lineup, and there are probably at least 50 potential headliners who'd sell more wristbands than Paramore. Still, they'd be a strong booking as a Red or Blue closer.

Death Cab is more of a Blue closer than Belle and Sebastian.
Probably, but both could appropriately be slotted there. Headlining Roadrunner, as B&S recently did, is pretty much the textbook definition of a Blue or Red closer.

The 2023 dates are billed as the Asphalt Meadows tour, just like their very recent LB Pavilion show. If they feel that they've hit the market already on this particular tour, they may not be back on the same tour.

My Morning Jacket seems to have been leaked! https://www.reddit.com/r/bonnaroo/comments/yb0gq0/mmj_at_roo_keep_manifesting/
red closer would be such a W
Would enjoy this more than many options but I don’t think there’s anything to this, it’s just a stubhub screenshot and when I looked at the event info I think I found why MMJ is listed for BC
I'm assuming that the countdown clock (2 hours from this post) on the Adjacent Festival page is for their lineup drop, or at least partial, but it does look like Beach Bunny is playing one of those days (on her tour page). I think she could be in play for BC as well.

hopeful we get: Paramore IDLES Beach Bunny Pup Jeff Rosenstock Mannequin Pussy The Linda Lindas
Same, and I'd add Drug Church to that list too. IDLES closing blue would be insane (actually IDLES playing any stage would be great, but the more intimate setting of blue would be a better atmosphere).

you're gonna make me rip my hair out
If your grandmother has never heard one of their songs, there's nothing iconic in their repertoire. It doesn't matter how big a band's fan base is, a great top line booking is someone with very widespread recognition outside of their fanbase.
Paramore may sell more albums than Miley Cyrus. Paramore may sell more headlining date tickets than Miley Cyrus. But Miley Cyrus would be an exponentially better Boston Calling headliner than Paramore, because *everybody* knows Miley Cyrus. You want headliners whom a lot of people casually like, because that sells more festival passes.
(And before anyone says, "Hey, but Paramore is headlining Adjacent," that festival has a more narrow focus than Boston Calling and isn't a big city in-town festival designed to move the majority of its tickets to people who live in the area. Adjacent plays more like a slightly broader When We Were Young, aiming to draw fans from throughout the east coast.)

counterpoint, paramore headlined when we were young and 3 days of that sold out, 80k tix each day. also by that logic, NIN(unless you count the cash cover of Hurt), Mumford and Sons, Tool, Tame Impala, and The Strokes shouldnt have headlined

WWWY was a very genre-limited festival. Of course, they're a good headliner for an emo-centric fest. But Boston Calling goes overboard in trying to be everything to everyone, but without the number of stages needed to do that well, so their best top line move is to book artists with a lot of mainstream recognition. (BTW, weren't they closing a secondary stage at WWWY, with MCR the actual headliner?)

If festivals booked acts based on how many grandparents have heard of them they would run out of business, because grandparents are the least likely demographic to buy tickets to music festivals.
