Yeah, they had easily the largest & most enthusiastic crowd of anyone at ACL W2, even headliners like RHCP, Pink & Kacey. They could be the third headliner at BC without a doubt, whether or not they have "iconic" songs.
There's another good reason why they shouldn't headline Boston Calling. Does it really make sense to book an artist that's headlining another festival happening a few hundred miles away on the same weekend? If you live in the northeast and you'd travel to see Paramore headline a festival, aren't you more likely to opt for the lineup filled with acts that play music that's at least somewhat similar to Paramore, over a festival that tries to do a little bit of everything?
No I live in Boston and I'd rather see Paramore play a festival in my own city than travel down to Atlantic City
PJ is rumored to go back on tour in the Spring and they didn't hit Boston during their 2022 North America leg. They already hit Europe and if inflation is still an issue for touring acts (see Animal Collective, Santigold, Stormzy, Gang of Youths), then Australia/Japan and South America may be off the table.
You'd attract multi-generational fans across all three days.
ugh, not a fan of pearl jam and the 90s grunge hunger dunger dang style of singing but i could see it happening. hope theres a good sub or blue closer if so

I wasn't referring to people who live in Boston. Obviously, anyone would rather see a band they like in their own city than have to travel to see them. Note the qualifier, "and you'd *travel* to see Paramore headline a festival".
But if you're a pop punk/emo fan who especially likes Paramore and lives in New Haven, Long Island, Harrisburg, Syracuse, or Buffalo and you're up for a trip to a festival in the northeast next year, do you opt for the festival where you get Paramore mixed in with dance pop, Americana, rap, and classic rock or do you choose the festival which is mostly pop punk/emo and music that's stylistically close enough to pop punk/emo for you to like them. Adjacent is very much in the tradition of the Warped Tour and WWWY, while Boston Calling is Lollapalooza-lite.
This is another reason why Paramore would be a bad choice to headline Boston Calling in '23. You're competing with Adjacent for Paramore fans in the northeast who live more than 100 miles from either festival.

Well luckily BC is a multigenre, mainstream festival that attracts a wide array of fans. If they book Paramore, they aren't targeting Paramore die-hards but people who'd be interested in seeing Paramore bc they know a few songs in addition to acts that fit the same bill across legacy rock, EDM, pop, up-and-coming indie, rap, etc. It's not that difficult of a concept.
Anecdotally, no one in my ACL group knew more than 3-4 Paramore songs but everyone was still pumped to see them and built their daily schedule around seeing them. Yes none of us were going to a different state to see them at WWWY but we still gave ACL our money to see them then and there. And I bet the vast majority of the rest of the people with us in that gigantic crowd were the same as us.

So you know the lineup is Dance Pop, Americana, Rap and Classic Rock then? Do share who else is on the lineup. Also forgot that Bleachers Japanese Breakfast played Warped Tour and When We Were Young. Thanks for reminding me
at what point do you just take the L? when they’re on the lineup, when they get announced on the schedule, when they’re actually performing and drawing a stupid big crowd?

buddy Boston Calling is a small regional festival, people don't really "travel" for it. Paramore is a fine booking for them because there are probably plenty of people who live within two hours of Boston who are likely to go to Boston Calling anyway who would say "oh paramore is playing, that's neat/fine/cool." A fest like BC doesn't book acts to try and entice people from 7 hours away.

I'm making an educated guess based upon over a dozen editions of Boston Calling to date. As for your comment about Bleachers and Japanese Breakfast, a lot of festivals that are mostly one thing do book a couple of artists who fall outside their norm. Made In America usually books one or two rock artists in each otherwise all hip hop/rap/R&B lineup.
My point still stands. If you're a pop punk/emo fan living in the northeast who really likes Paramore, and neither Boston Calling and Adjacent are particularly close to you, you'll more likely opt for Adjacent.
Outside 2017, I can't recall a BC where I knew a bunch of people that came just for BC.
There were a lot of people for Metallica though.
yeah i overheard a few people talking about travelling from Penn/upstate ny/quebec who came to BC for metallica when i was up close. i wouldnt call boston calling a small fest, its more of a gov ball size fest. its a full fest experience just in a smaller area

Agreed, it's not primarily a destination festival, and maybe some of us here (like myself) overestimate the number of people who do travel to Boston Calling because a bunch of people who care enough about music festivals to spend time on a message board about them probably aren't representative of festival goers as a whole.
Paramore would be a fine booking as a Blue or Red closer, but whether you're looking to move tickets to area residents or attract people from afar, the bigger the name, the better. If you want to share a headliner with Adjacent, Green Day is the better choice because more people know and like Green Day than know and like Paramore.

I think I overheard some people had come up from Latin American countries - like Mexico and Colombia.

Like I said, Paramore is a fine booking in any spot other than as headliner. According to the ACL schedule grid, they played from 6 - 7 pm and two more acts followed them on their stage, so it's not exactly like they were expected to do the heavy lifting in terms of ticket sales for that day.

Yet more people watched Paramore than the Chili Peppers. They got a prime time slot and now its being seen as a demotion.

This thread has turned into a really awful movie that you cant stop watching. I feel 10x dumber every tine i read this thread but for some reason continue to do so.
To follow up on a few of the recent comments...
1) Green Day isn't playing Adjacent 2) Chili Peppers were the only act to play on the main stage after Paramore at ACL.
We've reached the point of this argument where we are just making things up on the go to help try and make our point, nice.
just wanted to reiterate that none of this matters because they’re probably just running the killers or twenty one pilots back
they havent repeated a headliner at the new site yet fwiw. ones they have brought back from past editions were either demoted or subs again like ODESZA

Green Day is probably three times the cost and is coming off a lot of U.S. dates the past few years.
To get off of the burning train real quick, I have a couple of questions for you BC vets.
1. When would we expect the Early Bird sale to start? I purchased this year's tickets on November 9th of last year. So, can we expect similar timeframe?
2. My daughter and I had GA tickets for this year's festival and didn't have any issues getting close or close enough to the stages, outside of Sunday for Modest Mouse/Glass Animals/Weezer as the grounds were packed for Metallica. For those who had VIP tickets, do you feel they were worth it with the expanded VIP areas?

on sale is prob around that same date but it varies every year. I personally have never done VIP and dont think itd be worth it unless you specifically have more interest in the blue and red acts

The red stage sound better be fucking fixed next year by the way, i was on the left side of green waiting for glass animals and I couldn’t even hear modest mouse on red, completely ludicrous

100% agree. It was so aggravating to not be able to hear Modest Mouse or Weezer that well. I was near the sound board/light rig of the red stage for MM and the sound was terrible. I was further back for Weezer and it sounded like they were in a wind tunnel. Although Rufus Du Sol didn't sound too bad on Friday night.
Also, White Reaper is a no for a return. Just announced tour has them in Boston in March.
