311 is a curious band. i adored them as a teenager but my interest waned pretty quickly as i got older. i'm not sure if they are really great songwriters? i think the majority of their appeal is a solid rhythm section combined with a very pleasing tonality and a certain attitude. like take their biggest hit "all mixed up": is that a good song? it doesn't seem like it is, but something about it is engaging. it's a super smooth listen, and somehow catchy despite lacking any obvious hook. but if i put in on right now i know i'd stop whatever i'm doing to sing "you make me nervous / throat dry / my brain is empty / don't know why / but i saw you doin something that is really truly nothing and you can bust me out all day". not even sure if those are the right lyrics.
"offbeat bareass" as another example isn't even a song. it's basically a rhythm with lyrics subversive for their time. "throw me a joint on stage, what's up" still hits me in a good feeling place in my brain even though i never listen to 311 and haven't smoked or thrown a joint in a long time.
we get it, some of you old ass MF's listen to jazz and classical.
what's a gec and why are there 100 of them?
im not even a big gecs fan, but at least theyre doing something interesting. hyperpop is the only genres doing something different and interesting for the last decade

Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
woah i retract everything i said then. i'm staunchly against the KKK.
LMAO. I remember when they got questioned about that in the early 1990's, and they stopped to say F the 3K's and that it was the ordinance number for nude in public in Omaha.

I think beefy needs to delete this survivor. Then they need to create new survivors where we vote for the best sub genre of a genre, and THEN after all those are done we pit the winners against each other. It's the only fair way to do this.
