Pages Spanned: 1-11 Insider: No Infinitypass: No Drake: No Accusations of Bigotry: Oh fuck yes there are Who looks likely to be voted off at this time: Dubstep Today’s random genre playlist: Each day, I will accompany each music genre survivor daily recap post with a playlist of 5-10 random songs from a random genre as selected by chosic.com. All songs will be from different artists. The genre for round 1 on 7/25/22 is "mallet".
Esteban is about to write you a book about nazi punks.
"Me and two of my buddies were on our way to see Black Flag back when Dez Cadena was still on lead vocals pre-rollins at the the old Handlebar uptown before it burned down and they movied to Marigny. one ofmy friends had a mohawk and we ran into some straightup nazi punks and clocked in them in the head and i was drinking and smoking cigarettes, we wrapped up the night with a flounder almondine with a perfect meuiniere sauce and since they were in season softshell crab, was fucking awesome night. thats real punk not nazi punk"
I thought of this song for the first time since the 90s because of this thread. It's a techno remix of the first reggaeton song I ever heard, and even though I still love it, it will probably get both reggaeton and techno voted off
Path of Discussion:
30 choices? Get fucking ready, baby > after a couple minutes of people dancing around the subject of sharing takes, tristan shares a take > Jaz doesn’t like reggae > Does reggae include dub? > Esteban and murso discuss various meanings of hardcore and thank god Bing came in to remind everyone the clearly superior version of hardcore before I tore my hair out > What We Talk About When We Talk About Dubstep > garageland is already going to the plate for jazz > should MPG start a Survivor survivor? > No > Someone hates punk > Bluegrass vs dubstep: welcome to the one of like 3 corners of the internet where this debate could possibly happen > esteban ranks all music > “Classical is the water of music genres.” > Do only white people hate reggae? (Our first bigotry accusation. <3) > A side note: I’m listening to this playlist and it turns out there is such a thing as “too much marimba” > postjack may not have converted the dubstep haters > but he did convince browell to switch from classical > Buttrock: it’s a funny word! > BIGOTRY ALERT: not liking disco is racist and homophobic > is mainstream country bad compared to Americana? (I hate the term “Americana so you can guess my thoughts there.) > ambassadoroffun and Vieux commiserate on their goddamn shaky knees > What We Talk About When We Talk About Buttrock > Is blues foundational to American music? > This debate inspired only like 2 posts so I have no idea > But it turns out there’s a lot of people who want to argue if reggae is good or not > Oh but what about reggaetón? Do we hate that? > Not really? > okay we’re back to the reggae debate. Rebelution gets mentioned; a few days ago I walked by the Aragon Ballroom and there were two very intrepid people waiting hours before doors opened, bullshitting with security, all just to see their favorite band. That band was Rebelution. I am still thinking about how wild it is that there are two people in this universe that love Rebelution that much. The universe is a special place for all types. > BIGOTRY ALERT: reggae is homophobic > honestly I may have to add a “Was there a reggae debate today?” burner on the top of each recap > BIGOTRY ALERT: mansplaining classical music > esteban is really going to bat for classical music > I’ve mostly agreed with Pablo’s opinions in this recap so far but he just referred to “Cascada-type dance music that kids who were too into anime liked” and I’ve decided I’m going to give him the cold shoulder for the rest of my life > does anyone have any Beethoven tabs > do people really listen to classical and jazz? > On here yeah lol > half convinced Jorge wanted me to start a new recap thread so I could give him POTD again. Guess again bitch! > BIGOTRY ALERT: dancehall is homophobic > BIGOTRY ALERT: not liking hyper pop is homophobic and transphobic > postjack waxes on 311 > what’s hyperpop? (Don’t ask that question.) > BIGOTRY ALERT: 311 is a terrorist organization > BIGOTRY ALERT: AC/DC is anti-Christian > murso and tristan half fight about hyperpop > people are talking a lot of shit about country for a genre of music that gave us Miranda Lambert > the trap debate starts coming around again. > Pablo gatekeeps reggae > (900) Days of Music Genre Survivor > BIGOTRY ALERT: country music is racist > BIGOTRY ALERT: Some Rastafaris are homophobic > BIGOTRY ALERT: punk music is for Nazis > Is shoegaze buttock (I wrote a whole take about this before so I say yes tbh) > oh wait here I am > BIGOTRY ALERT: rap is homophobic and misogynistic > I want to talk shit about ska (so I will here too: it sucks) > ok here we go with the trap debates > Bing has a lot of opinions > BIGOTRY ALERT: not liking trap music is racist > “The Rockefeller Skank” is the best song ever created > how do we feel about experimental music? (Crowd boos) > Is Skrillex good? (Yeah :\) > If I was in charge of this survivor, J-core definitely would’ve been its own genre.

Nah, I wasn’t fishing for Post of the Day. I just love these threads. They’re like the classical music of Inforoo, and I’m not being racist or homophobic when I say that.
I may have my own flair but much like how literally no form of American or British music of the past 75 years would exist without the blues, these recap threads could not exist without 3post1jack1.
I love those 90s techno synths so much and it was fascinating to hear them in a completely different context, I couldn't not pick it.
It really blew my mind when it came out, both because I was huge into techno at the time and el general was the first reggaeton guy I had ever heard at a time I was listening to dancehall A LOT. Hearing that in a club for the first time (I think it was limelight but it could have been the Bank) was wild as fuck.

I was actually the third person to do a headliner recap thread. I'm 95% certain Pops did the first one, but I can't confirm and don't remember what year, my searches aren't pulling anything up. Anyone else remember? Edit: disregard, see update below.

Pages Spanned: 1-9 Insider: No Infinitypass: No Drake: No Accusations of Bigotry: Yes, but today they were pretty much all jokey Who looks likely to be voted off at this time: It's a blind round, babe Quality of read (which, in honor of Pitchfork rating music all music 6.8 will be rated from 0.0-10.0): 7.8 Today’s random genre playlist: Today's playlist features 10 random "punk melodico chileno" songs.
It's time for a blind round > BIGOTRY ALERT: okay I can't do this again lol > Anyway maybe bluegrass is connected to minstrelsy > The trap vs blues argument creeps in a bit > Is dancehall reggae? (probably) > regardless of what we think, we can all agree white boy reggae is not valid > Nathan Fielder comes for ambient > and gets shot down almost immediately > pokstjack defends reggaeton > Rhythm Is an Oppressor > people listen to ambient music during spa treatments I guess but I mostly listen to it when I'm stealing chickens from poultry farms late at night. wait what? > Is post-rock ambient? (probably not) > and the trap vs blues argument comes roaring back! > People post a LOT of blues songs > elpingu doesn't like reggaeton > Is Run the Jewels trap? (uhhh) > people post more blues songs > Is Queens of the Stone Age blues? (sorry sang but even with Mark Lanegan definitely not) > Bing and elpingu briefly get into it re: the difference between reggaeton and hip hop > I'm still laughing at my dumb Picasso joke! > the common denominator between all grunge bands is apparently heroin? (by this definition, the flaming lips are definitely grunge.) > A brief discussion on the 90s chant phenomenon > Esteban Was a Teenage Anarchist > uh oh.....someone brought up hair metal > Is grunge butt rock? (all rock is butt rock) > jokes about socially conscious reggaeton > jokes about rock and roll flute solos > Is Candlebox buttrock? (I've never listened to Candlebox so you tell me.) > I read this discussion about Soundgarden earlier today and I'm rereading it now and I gotta be honest my eyes keep glossing over > how old is postjack? (old enough to have been at the first can show. in cologne) > The Mighty Unchained > Is Anthrax hair metal? (goatee metal.) > ok murso is really passionate about Anthrax > Presidential Alert: THE GIRLS ARE FIGHTINGGGG (over anthrax) > in the midst of all of this maddog decides to resurrect the "Is Pearl Jam buttrock?" argument (they are but they're still good. whatever) > Okay I am going to try and make sense of this: esteban thinks Anthrax is hair metal or at least approaching that zone because there's not much screaming, murso disagrees because Anthrax have been pretty straightforwardly designated at thrash metal for years, garageland gets involved, there was something about children not liking Anthrax I didn't really get. okay that was that > I wanted to start a discussion with elpingu about buttrock and alternative radio and what the purpose of alternative radio is these days but 1) I hate alternative radio and 2) in spite of that I could maybe write a whole dissertation on this topic. either way: happy to not have gotten involved > Is Black Sabbath hair metal? (no) > Is EDM techno (yes, and nobody listens to techno.)
To briefly answer your question, shuck: the purpose of alternative radio today is to provide a <1 minute bridge while my car’s bluetooth connects to the things I actually want to listen to.
I tried to get it to 10 but I lost steam. Tomorrow I'll get us to double digits for meatball hero
I don't think any survivor thread's drama can be as good as its first.
I'm willing to try. I think people will get much pissier when their favorite music genre gets eliminated because of racists than they will for losing tea
I’ve mostly agreed with Pablo’s opinions in this recap so far but he just referred to “Cascada-type dance music that kids who were too into anime liked” and I’ve decided I’m going to give him the cold shoulder for the rest of my life
Yeah I saw you liked my Perfect Blue post ya nerd.
