really wish they'd move to three announcements a week if they're so hellbent on the whole "rolling lineup announcement" schtick
Agree with this. At 2 a week, we won’t get the full lineup by the festival. Even if they move it to 3 a week starting next week, we’ll get the full lineup the last week of June.
I feel like you can build some momentum with 3 a week, but with 2 a week, there’s a 5 day gap between announcements where momentum dissipates.

I would love Lana Del stay. Would also love a shift to three a week announcements. Am guessing your calculations don’t account for the fact that 50% of the acts will be unannounced surprise stages this year.

Because he’s on a tour called “No Snowflakes” and is opening for Kid Rock as Kid Rock plays music from his new album with “Let’s Go Brandon” chants and the following lyrics:
“Wear your mask, take your pills" Now a whole generation's mentally ill (Hey-yeah) man, f*** Fauci”
“You piece of s***, I don't see color ‘Black lives matter,’ no s*** motherf*****”
I mean, collabing on a song 22 years ago isn’t quite the same as actively touring with a musician who has openly become a right-wing shitbag but sure.
Became?
Pretty sure he’s the same dude he was 22 years ago.
I mean, probably. But in just the last seven years or so he's championed Trump, made very public anti-BLM remarks, made openly transphobic comments, gone after female artists with incredibly misogynistic and racist tirades, continually used homophobic language on stage, been openly anti-vax, etc.
It's kind of the same way I wouldn't look down on anyone for making tracks with Kanye in 2005, but if they're doing that this year I'm gonna take that as them being implicitly cool with his devolution into Hitler apologia.
What about OCMS. We disagree with them opening for Hank Williams Jr.?
uh yeah, actually. plus they suck.
edit: though at least with Hank Williams Jr., OCMS could have some plausible deniability as most of dude's controversies took place over a decade ago and he issued an apology afterwards.

Paul Simon played with Michael Jackson, should he have not been asked to come last year?
Newport refers to all the artists as family. Half of my family voted for Trump, should I stop speaking to them?
I’ll take a lobster roll over filet o fish any day and Kid Rock sucks but also is never playing Newport.
Odds are good, at some point in your life you're going to work for people with really shitty political opinions. And you'll do it anyway, because you're getting paid.
60 racks a year and I'll ignore the fact the owner of the company reads Breitbart.

do you mean Paul McCartney? im not aware of Paul Simon and Michael Jackson ever playing together. Unless you're counting "we are the world", but in either event, both collaborations took place well before MJ's abuse of children occurred/was documented, so kinda hard to get mad there.

yeah man it's certainly possible that the CEO of my company watches Fox News and thinks that transgenderism is a mental disease, but my job also isn't to follow him around the country, warming up the crowd of yokels who will enthusiastically cheer when he uses homophobic slurs so I think your comparison is slightly off here

I am talking about Paul Simon and we are the world. I’m also not mad that Marcus King is opening for Kid Rock. I’m not going to see Kid Rock and if a bunch his fans want to show up to a klan meeting screaming let’s go Brandon then me bitching about it on the internet won’t change their behavior. I also used Roger Waters as an example previously and his behavior of bigotry is far more recent and he’s been allowed back. Some of these people are just complete pieces of shit and if I have a problem with it they won’t get my money. I just don’t think it’s worth labeling Marcus King as a racist, homophobic right wing lunatic because he took a paycheck. My job contributes to lots of very unhealthy behavior but I need to put food on the table.

Wait... how is Roger Waters a bigot?
We all have to make judgements about where we draw the line on what we do with our time and how it contributes to society. That includes where we work and what we do for enjoyment. That line is rarely clear and any individual may have to live with themselves within this morally ambiguous universe. That being said, the example of Kid Rock is one where they are clearly making a political tour which makes it much easier to draw that line than in other more ambiguous circumstances. Marcus King is choosing to stand with him/open for him which isn't the equivalent of just doing your job.

Yes, but would you work for Breitbart? I’d assume not.
Kid Rock isn’t someone who reads Breitbart. He is Breitbart. He has revitalized his career by aligning himself with anti-trans, anti-BLM, anti-democracy, and pro-conspiracy theories such that the artist, his music, and his positions (which are all antithetical to the spirit of Newport Folk) are one in the same. This is a tour for an album with lyrics that support these positions. The tour name itself is an insult to those who disagree with these positions. The tour is inherently political and I promise you Kid Rock is going to get up there on stage and treat the concert as a campaign rally.
