Still trying to figure out how they consistently sell out before a full lineup drop.
Low capacity (around 10k) + white whale special guests (Joni, Dolly, Paul Simon)
+ Beautiful setting that pulls people in even if they don't care about the music unfortunately + one off collaboration sets (Grandma's Hands Band, Speak Out, A Change Is Gonna Come, I've Got A Song, etc.)
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

Maha Festival is the weekend of Newport, I wouldn't be surprised to see Big Thief and Alvvays come to Newport. They already have The Beths overlapping.

Completely unrelated, I heard a rumor (which was admittedly like five-degrees-of-separation from the "source") that Dead & Co is a headliner this year.
Just want to point out that both Orville Peck and Billy Strings are playing Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 in April...something to maybe watch for on Sunday announcements.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!

Absolutely zero chance on Dead & Co. They very publicly declared that this tour (which ends July 16) would be their final run, and their fanbase already threw a fit when they tacked one extra San Fran date on there. (Originally the July 15 show was the last one, it sold out, they added July 16, and fans got hella pissed because the ones who explicitly sought out 7/15 as the "last" show got fleeced.) If they randomly added a show at NFF, two weeks after the "final" show, it'd make their diehards super pissed.

I feel like Bob Weir & Wolf Bros is a better fit considering July 16 in SF is billed as the last show but I'd take either. Guessing "One More Saturday Night" if it's going down.

The fact that Billy got announced for Sunday rather than Friday or Saturday, where he could easily headline, immediately made me think it’d be some sort of segue to Willie similar to MMJ>>Waters a few years ago.

Very happy about Orville being added! His set at Boston Calling last year was awesome - it really lifted my spirits after the rain delay and KGLW cancelling.

eh, it could be as simple as the fact that he's booked Friday/Saturday
I also don't know he'd headline. He's big enough with the right crowd/fest to headline (jam stuff especially), but I think for a large portion of the NFF crowd (especially the lawn chair ppl) he's still pretty unknown

With nanna as today’s announcement, this is easily the most excited I’ve been after the first 9 acts announced for Newport. I think I want to see every single announced artist at this point. Obviously lineup announcements ebb and flow though, and I know from previous years we could easily see a few weeks of acts I don’t care about, but I’ll take this for now.

Or Strings > Doc Tribute.
I think that’s higher likely.
I forget who, but someone put that on their Bingo Card. 60 years since NFF debut, 100 Years old.
