I know Taylor Swift likely won't ever play Newport - but I think it would be an interesting move for her to show up to a small festival last minute to play something stripped down, especially after all the hype of her current sold-out shows.

duh that's why she's going to take her private jet to cram in a 4 song appearance at NFF in the middle of her run of california shows

Still don't see MMJ playing Newport Friday, then going to DC for Saturday, followed by a VA show Sunday. They don't really play back to back to back nights at all on their tour, and Newport to DC is a haul.

I think it's likely, the band doesn't have to haul all of their stage production to Newport, which saves a ton of logistics.
It's like 6 hours, seems likely to me at this point.

I hope that you’re right and I’m wrong. MMJ playing a set of music from when they were good would be best case scenario for a Friday headliner
Does MMJ playing ISM have the universal appeal to be a good headliner for Newport? In some ways, Newport puts itself in a conundrum by selling tickets before the lineup: take a niche band and restrict them to a single (but very good) album to play to a bunch of people who are tired or might not know that album. I’d imagine the crowd would clear out after OBH was played.
An album set also limits the possibility of unique collabs and guests, which I feel is like what most people stick around for during the headliner.

You may be right. The last 3 normal years have had normal sets on Friday and surprise or collaboration sets on Saturday and Sunday. We haven't had a normally-billed headlining set on Sat + Sun since 2017.
So a normal MMJ set for Friday (logistical challenges aside) probably is more reasonable.
2018: Isbell & the 400 Unit / TBD (Mumford) / A Change is Gonna Come 2019: Phil / Surprise (Dolly) / If I Had a Song 2022: The National / Surprise (Simon) / Brandi & Friends (Joni)

eh, i feel like MMJ in general is enough for the NFF crowd that it would be fine.
Also did they announce the whole tour is It Still Moves? They only have a handful of announces ISM shows (Red Rocks, the Beacon, etc.). The rest are billed as normal. The show they played two nights ago wasnt an ISM show.
And even if they were doing an ISM tour, you'd have to imagine they would play other stuff after they played the album front to back - that album is what, an hour long? They're not wrapping every night after 55 minutes. And sometimes when bands do this kind of thing, festival sets are different - I remember back when Neil Young played Bonnaroo, it was smack in the middle of his Greendale tour (where he played the whole album), but he shelved that and did a greatest-hits style show instead.
"You look like you're listening to every note." - Lady to me during LCD's "final" show 2023: Mar 29 - Guster Apr 6 - Postmodern Jukebox Apr 26 - Father John Misty May 14 - Taylor Swift (Philly) May 17 - Robert Plant and Alison Krauss July 12 - moe. July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
Kinda glad to be wrong, because that's a cool booking, even if I find her pretty unremarkable. Still a step in the right direction for them.
This announcement just means we get to see Jack for the 3rd consecutive year. Woof.
it's not like he's part of her touring band, is it? do they even have any collab songs which she happens to play live? and even if so, Jack Antonoff popping up to guest with LDR on one song isn't nearly as odious as Bleachers two years in a row
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
