Dan Blakeslee definitely deserves a slot on the lineup. But this is a weird way to open the Fort stage all 3 days. Especially when we already had some obvious Fort stage openers, including several gospel acts. I guess I can arrive later than usual this year.

I know there was an article in the news about City of Newport complaining of traffic. I wonder if this is a low-key way of helping with traffic haha!

I think y'all are reading way too much into this, but i'm not surprised.
We know there are many announcements that haven't been announced yet. So I don't really care if it doesn't say "more artists to come." We know they're coming.
2) This is also my least favorite lineup in the last 6 years, including the 2020 lineup that never was and the 2021 Folk Event lineups. (If you take some subset of the two lineups together; or hell, just give me the weekday lineup.)

Yeah we all know the usual folk fam suspects will be there. They always pop in.

But assuming the Fort stage isn’t starting any earlier, every slot on the schedule is filled. We don’t even have as many traditional jam/cover sets on the lineup where we don’t really know who will be playing until the set itself. It doesn’t seem like there’s any reason to suspect an Unannounced set on any of the three main stages on any of the three days. (Sure we’ll find out who Jon Batiste’s, Dawn Landes’, and Los Lobos’ friends are, and maybe a few other acts will have some friends.)

I honestly read this announcement as the sort of performance that happened on the Quad stage in the covid years. Some local acts came and performed in that hour long gap between getting in and the main acts coming in. I didn't read it as a full-on set but maybe just a few people with an acoustic guitar playing a sort of "hello" while people set up.

Like, if Jay Sweet did some feature on Childers but doesn't actually have him playing the fest that's a big layer of bullshit, I don't care if he's played before. I think Jay has dickish tendencies, but he's not that bad.
Hey y'all, it's been a few years but I'm gonna try to get back up to the Fort for the first time since 2019 (this will be my 7th Folk Fest, God willing) I know we're all talking lineup stuff, but quick question regarding some of the recent updates: any personal or anecdotal evidence on how getting tickets the week/day of the fest has been? I know they're doing all ticket exchanges through the app now, so I'm wondering if that makes it a little harder to pick up the last minute cancelation ticket from someone on here or FB or whatever.
I'm on the wait list and have a place to stay with some family, so worst case scenario I'm just hanging in town or headed out to Block Island for the day, but in the past getting a ticket on the day of the fest wasn't usually an issue with a little digging, wondering if that is still the case...

I do think the app makes it harder to pick up week of tickets for two reasons. 1) Tickets still get allocated to people at the top of the waitlist first, and many people never cancel their spot in line, so you have to wait a few hours before it moves to the next person on the waitlist. 2) Because the app shuts off ticket sales a few days before the fest, then you basically need to connect with someone through a less than safe channel to make an exchange. Unfortunately it rules out the possibility of using StubHub which does (for all things it sucks at) give peace of mind to buyers.

I suppose this “Homegrown Fort Stage” could also be that tent in the fort, along the water.
Which I guess would imply that stage would be all local bands.

Oh wow they shut off the exchange a few days before the fest? That seems dumb... Ok well, I'll keep my fingers crossed for waiting list (doubtful), hope maybe my brother has a friend in the area not going some day, or risk it all on the "less than safe channels" (I assume this is just PayPal-ing someone for a screenshot of a QR code or something...?)
10 Acts I Am Most Excited For: 1. Lana Del Rey 2. Noah Kahan 3. The Beths 4. Orville Peck 5. The Hold Steady 6. Bartees Strange 7. Billy Strings 8. Maggie Rogers 9. Remi Wolf 10. Turnpike Troubadors
That said, I’m a tad disappointed in the lineup. It’s hard to put into words why, although:
- I really thought we could get Alex G, Soccer Mommy, Beabadoobee, Suki Waterhouse, or Declan McKenna, given their tour schedules.
- The number of repeat acts, particularly at the top of the lineup.
- I was really hoping Newport would find a way to match the Roots and Sylvan Esso sets last year, in terms of energy. But I don’t see it on this year’s lineup.
That said, it’s still a very good lineup. And Newport landed one of its biggest names yet in LDR. And folk acts at peak popularity in Noah Kahan and Billy Strings. If I was asked to buy tickets knowing the lineup, I’d probably switch it out for another fest this summer. But given that I have tix, friends going, and a hotel, I’m going to go and fully enjoy myself (and hope the scheduling isn’t awful).

So, if I had made this type of list last year (or any year really) I would have been far off from what ended up being my favorite sets. I mean, who knew Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell were our guest headliners this time last year. Similarly it is not beyond reason to think we may have some major surprises in store. That being said I almost always find one spectacular midday set each day. This year, I would rank as follows:
Goose Indigo de Souza The Hold Steady Lana Del Ray Jon Batiste (have seen him twice and both times didn’t disappoint) Willi Carlisle Jonathan Richman Orville Peck Gabriel’s Nickel creek

I feel like we did have reason to expect surprises last year by this time, given American Tune Revue and Brandi Carlile and Friends. Paul Simon was thrown around frequently for the former. And Joni and Elton were often considered for the latter. Even Taylor’s name came up a lot with Bleachers, the National, and CARM there… until the schedule dropped and pretty much ruled that out.
This year, I’m expecting someone big for Jon Batiste & Friends (especially if he’s scheduled as the headliner), and I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a surprise during MMJ (Roger Waters?), LDR (Joan Baez?), Los Lobos & Friends (Santana?), and/or Jason Isbell (Crosby tribute?)
