Idk but I think it is cool. I love some rnb though.
I switched to it because I think what I think is R&B now really isn't, and usher and Jodeci and others aside, I just never to back and listen to it. So here's Jodeci doing a cover
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Pop, Disco and R&B are the least musical genres remaining. They the McDonald's, Wendy's and Burger King of musical genres.
This is a pretty big statement to make about pop given how wide-ranging it is. There has been stupendous writing, arranging, playing, and recording done under the pop umbrella.
classic rock come over to folk and next round we'll get indie then next round we'll get funk then next round we'll get psych then next round we'll get soul then next round we'll get jazz then next round we'll get pop then next round we'll get classic rock.

yeah but remember it took Beyonce like seventeen songwriters to make a great album but it only took Beck one songwriter to make a boring album.

It is. There are good players and session musicians where instruments are used. I think a better argument would be for the overall appeal and maybe the quality of singers in pop. Writing a 3:30 song with a chorus and hook and a couple of stanzas to appeal to the McMasses doesn't feel stupendous. It doesn't much matter the era either. I Got You Babe isn't on musical par with Miles Davis. Let's Hear it for the Boy might be catchy but it's not musically stupendous. D'Yer Mak'er, whether intended to be a single or not, is the worst song on Houses of the Holy. Chuck Mangione's best work wasn't Feels So Good. But if there are any specific examples of technical proficiency or virtuoso musicianship that would put pop in the class of Metal, Classic Rock, Jazz, Funk, Psyche or (some) Hiphop, I'll watch a video and give you my feedback to prove that I'm not not necessarily discounting what you said.

Bjork isn't some standard radio pop stuff. Even in that performance of Hyperballed, there's orchestration, a couple of avant-garde instruments and her singing. Hell half the time she's using non-standard scales. There are plenty of actual ARTists who have some popular material. Kate by all means. But is anyone really going to argue she's "pop" from the generic-genre perspective?
I'm looking at pop as radio friendly stuff. If that's wrong, I'll listen to why.

Pop isn't just standard radio pop. Bjork makes art pop and so does Kate Bush.

I guess what's the difference between R&B and Soul? Feels like splitting hairs and I'm trying to save my D'Angelo, Marvin Gaye, and Erykah Badu arguments.

you basically just defined pop as only being able to be bad.
