r/Festivals ~ 32 minutes ago
under an hour after news surfaced that REM would likely not be reuniting at Coachella, I was informed that Sonic Youth would in fact be reuniting for at least one festival performance.
reports suggest that the band is open to other performances, so, if festival bookers want to cash in on this reunion, they might want to hop on it quickly.

Unlike the normal drafts, there isn't a clear #1 winner (or co-winner) or single metric to go by. Each festival has different goals and budgets. A festival with a 3M budget just can't compete with Coachella.
Last time we did this we had the following categories:
-Best lineup overall -Best lineup relative to budget -Lineup that represents their festivals identity the best -Which would sell the most tickets -Best booking -Best poster -Best presentation (as in, who really tried to sell their festival the best) -Honorable mention
while I cannot obtain and share official names of who you have booked, I would be more than happy to conduct interviews about general thoughts on your lineup thus far, who you are catering to, if you have any exclusive acts/anything else special, etc.
andrew this applies in response to your question as well.

it's time...
Volume 1 of Festival 5 Live presented by Cash App: An Interview with Teddy Flair
After expressing my interest in interviewing some of the United States' top festival bookers, Mr. Kevin Lyman was the first to reach out and allow me to ask him anything. Of course, I couldn't start the interview without asking if the former festival legend intended on bringing Warped Tour back in some capacity, and, while I did not get a clear answer, Lyman made sure to let me know that he is "making When We Were Young look like a bunch of chumps."
This fiery start made it clear we were in for a wild booking season from Mr. Lyman, and he confirmed this further my simply describing his festival as circle pits galore.
When asked if he had any plans to book exclusive acts or special reunions, he said that he did not explicitly pay extra for exclusivity, but he does not anticipate to see the majority of his acts at any other festivals this year. In regards to reunions, Lyman confirmed he did have some tricks up his sleeve, even going as far as saying he is "one step closer to winning this thing."
Finally, in hopes of getting one last idea of what to expect out of this festival, I asked Lyman about the key demographic he was targeting, to which he responded "30 year old teenagers AND regular teenagers too."
I don't know about you, but, to me, it seems we better get our emo attire and pop punk hearts ready for a festival I am certainly not going to miss the chance to interview some weirdos at.

Good afternoon, hippies and crackheads!
It's time for Volume 2 of Festival 5 Live presented by Trojan Brand: An Interview with andrew
As we all know, Mr. 032302 is the resident Texan in the booking industry, and he is damn proud of it. In our interview he made sure to hammer home this point as he confirmed that he intends to remain true to Austin City Limits' identity during his tenure as the festival's main booking agent. He acknowledges that the festival has tended to skew more towards an older demographic than other C3 festivals while still booking acts to cater to the area's younger crowd. While trying to appease both crowds, 032302 states that their #1 headliner for both weekends is a "universal icon."
In staying true to his Texas roots, Andrew is working hard to make sure the lineup represents Texas music and artists well. Some clear examples of this attention to detail is their booking of a Texas native who has been selling out large venues across the country as a sub-headliner for both Saturdays as well as a Texas pop/R&B artist who has finally made the jump to headliner status and he believes should draw a great crowd.
When asked about if the fest is looking to book any exclusive or special acts, 032302 suggests that their top 3 is not necessarily meant to be exclusive, but he has not heard much chatter about them being booked for other festivals. However, he is in the act of trying to secure a Sunday sub-headliner that would be a North America exclusive and complete what he calls "one of the most unique runs on a major fest stage in a long time."
One change that 032302 is making to the scheduling for ACL this year, however, is a switch from their usual Saturday sub-headliner spot at the American Express Main Stage during Weekend 2. This spot is typically reserved to appeal to the tastes of the college hooligans at UT-Austin, but, with that weekend being a big rivalry away game, he wants to ensure this slot appeals more to the fest's boomer demographic.
All in all, ACL knows they cannot completely ignore their younger demographic despite trying to appeal a bit more to their older attendees, and they plan to make use of the kids and their dad's credit cards with raised alcohol prices that they know will rake in a ton of dough.
