Yeesh, they should have gone with the new amphitheater instead. At least they got a Friday...
Yeah Moody Amphitheater would have been perfect for them, both size wise and I can just envision Matt running through the crowd there now. Moody Center seems ambitious, though I think they close the upper bowl for a lot of shows like this
as an aside, it annoys the hell out of me that Austin has 3 venues named "Moody"

I'm not really a fan of the amphitheater tbh. Haven't seen a show at Moody Center yet but I've heard mixed reviews. Excited to see Billy there since their sound guy is the best in the biz so will be interesting to see if the same sound issues I've heard about occur.

I can only imagine they think there’s some T Swift bump in popularity due to all the collaborations? But even then, they were made for that amphitheater. I can’t see them selling close to half at Moody Center.

It'd be fine if they priced tickets at $45, but they won't. So yeah, it won't sell.

Their Stubbs after show from the last ACL wasn’t even high demand and that was around $60. Would have been better off doing a residency at Moody Theater or one night at the amphitheater.

You know that got me thinking about ACL aftershows. I thought that National Stubbs show in 2018 was an all-timer, setlist was incredible and there was a fantastic energy to the whole thing. They even went on to press that on vinyl as one of the Cherry Tree LP's they give to members each year. And last year, the second Billy Strings Stubbs show was also an all-timer for me and I generally see Billy fans regard it as one of his best shows, always comes up when people ask what shows to go back and listen to.
Curious if there's any other ACL Aftershows like that any of you went to that you regard as really special?

Haven't been to many but seeing IDLES at Mohawk in 2019 was insane.

Easy. Parquet Courts at Mohawk in 2018. The year it poured hard. Didn’t stop the band from going through a blistering set and everyone went crazy despite the constant rain. Surprised they didn’t shut it down.

Damn that was such a fire set list I forgot how good that show was.
Foo Fighters - seems almost too obvious, given ACL history and ending tour the day before in El Paso
Odesza - showing up at multiple festivals and has ACL history. Touring near Texas around ACL and skips Texas. With the exception of 2019, there's always an EDM headliner. Seems very likely.
Miranda Lambert - ACL recently books a big country artist each year. Shania seems like more and more a long shot by the day. Miranda plays more shows in TX than anywhere else, every year except during COVID actually. If she skips TX this year, it would be the only year since 2004 with that exception of COVID.
Lizzo - if you saw the Lizzo crowd a few years ago, you know ACL is itching to get her back on the big stage. Her tour officially ends in the summer but given her festival presence this year, it seems likely ACL would go after her.
Lana Del Rey - history with ACL, playing other festivals. Kinda 50/50 if this one lands.
Hozier - tour dates and tour locations in October line up too well. History with ACL and put on a great show years ago.
Alanis Morissette - would help fill the void of considering the Foos the only legacy act. Both first hit radio airplay close to 30 years ago. This one is heavily influenced by my personal wishful thinking too.
Leon Bridges - history with ACL, playing other festivals around Texas in the fall but skips Texas
I don't see Kendrick happening if Foos, Lizzo, and Odesza happen, because it would match all 3 Bonnaroo or all 3 Governor's Ball headliners. Plus ACL seems to have slowed down on spending their top dollar on the biggest name rappers like Jay-Z, Eminem, and Drake, and instead on country artists like George Strait and the Chicks in recent years. Would be stoked if he's in the lineup though.
Karol G doesn't seem likely to me. Love her music and loved her show when she came to ACL but the crowd was just... not there. She's doing two stadiums in TX already. I just don't see it.
I can't see them booking the Lumineers if Hozier is there. Too similar of an act that would want to be in the left hand column of the poster. The 1975 either, although completely different types of alternative music, seems like too much crossover to book both.
Writing Metallica off for now since they have two TX shows in August. Would love to see them again at ACL though.
Why this lineup is possible - checks the boxes of ACL's recent trends: half male/half female in the top 8, at least two minority artists in the top eight, history shows ACL doesn't require a true "legacy act" from 70s or 80s so 1 or 2 artists from the 90s is very possible.
Why this lineup is unlikely - too much crossover with other festivals. ACL is typically slightly more unique than what I have listed here. This also would include more ACL-repeat acts than ever before.

I was there too!
Other ACL weekend highlights: - skipping Sunday of ACL 2012 in favor of attending the Jack White taping with my mom - we had horrible seats but moved up to front row center balcony after the first two songs. - 2013 Phoenix in a high school gymnasium for an Artists Den Taping - 2014 Jenny Lewis taping and CHVRCHES at Emos - 2016 M83 at ACL Live was a bop
Okay, anyone else getting impatient? i really hope they drop the lineup by next week or something its been too quiet for too long lol
I think my hopes are correct though, fred again.. will definitely be in there somewhere in the first line but not one of the big 8 headliners.
As for headliners : Lizzo Foo Fighters Hozier Odesza Lana Del Rey
Not sure any other of the top 3 big names that could be, but these top 5 sound pretty likely based on their current tour dates and the gaps they have during the month of October.

The Lumineers [3 sets]
that's honestly hilarious but wouldn't surprise me either lol
Hozier could probably headline the smaller one. like there was fucking no one at Robyn, artic monkeys, shit like that.
arctic monkeys also had to play against travis scott.
That also happend at Lolla. I saw Monkeys close main stage and legit there had to be only like 1000 of us, field was almost empty. Ngl I should have went to Travis that show looked way more fun

I'm starting to think the lineup won't be coming on Tuesday...There has been 0 social media posts from them since 1/1. Might be looking at a line up announcement next week then actual lineup the on 5/16

Selfishly I don't want it next week haha...getting hitched on Friday and really don't want to deal with modding all the traffic to the sub next week lol

Take it (or not) from someone who has seen him 3 times. He's not very good beyond his ability to hype. He certainly can't sing or rap which is why everything is autotuned to a level that only people who can't sing or rap would ever use. Besides obviously being a fucking asshole, he's just not that good. That doesn't mean his shows aren't fun. And some people with a simpler approach to listening to whatever love him. But as successful as he has been, he's not very talented musically IMHO.
