Never cut through the track even there's a band on the main stage. Always go around the track.
Also, mango freeze is the best thing to cool you off in the heat.
I bought someone’s brass passes off of them one year to catch Jack White on the last Saturday and the unlimited mango freezes was the best perk of the pass
Oh 100%! Plus, you get shade and there is a bathroom in the OZ tent.
Might do a day trip for Dead & Co. and really hoping Herbie will be in the same day
If so, they'd likely conflict because Herbie would close out the Jazz Tent and Dead & Company would be on the main stage. Fortunately Jazz Tent is right behind the main stage, so you can duck out and see him and get back. I'm assuming Dead & Company will get at least 2 hours if not 2 1/2 or 3.
Fri 4/28: Lizzo, Plant/Krauss, Wu Tang/Soul Rebels, Big Freedia Sat 4/29: Ed Sheeran, Steve Miller Band, Jazmine Sullivan, Revivalists Sun 4/30: Tedeschi Trucks, Gary Clark, Jill Scott, Kenny Loggins
Thr 5/4: Santana, Leon Bridges, Buddy Guy Fri 5/5: Jon Batiste, Kane Brown, Ludacris, Irma Thomas Sat 5/6: Dead & Co, Lumineers, H.E.R, Preservation Hall Jazz Band Sun 5/7: Mumford & Sons, Tom Jones, Trombone Shorty, NE-YO
Sunday W1 & Friday W2 have to be some of the saddest single-day lineups Jazz Fest has ever produced. Feels like each is missing a real headliner and they look horribly weak as a result. The other days aren't too offensive tho; both Saturdays are strong showings for sure.

Not a Tedeschi fan? I think the real focus should be the New Orleans heavy weights that day (sun1): Dumpstafunk, Jon Cleary, Cyril Neville, Rebirth Brass Band, Monk Boudreaux...

Love me some Tedeschi Trucks, don't get me wrong, but still feels weak considering what JF has put up in terms of HLer weight. I've never had anything negative to say about the undercard & local acts.
And hell yeah can never go wrong with Rebirth, thats for sure. Used to see them just about every week back in college when they did Rebirth Tuesdays at the Maple Leaf. Catching them on Congo before the day's headliners is always a must.
I can't believe there hasn't been a post about Jazz Fest in almost a month. They keep adding night shows around town. Looking like a big year.
I haven’t even started figuring shit out yet. Looks like I’ll be in Panama City first weekend but will hopefully be back in town Tuesday for Goose and definitely Wednesday if not both days.

im not impressed with much during week one, other than Friday night. Would love to hear recommendations as this is our first jazz fest and first time to New Orleans

First weekend night has Lettuce and Tower of Power with Louisiana Philharmonic, Master P and Friends, Agent Orange, moe, Tauk presents P-Funk & Sly & TFS, Cimafunk (Cimafest), Ministry w/ Gary Numan so far at night. Lots more to go.
Week between has Yves Tumor Monday, Goose Tuesday and Wednesday (with 5 openers each day). Second weekend, though Melvin Seals & Jerry Garcia Band is playing, e-collective, JRAD 3 nights, $NOT, Digable Planets, Diplo+Big Freedia, KDTU doing an Amy Winehouse tribute, Mule, a couple Avetts shows. We'll see what all gets added.
On the fence about getting a three day pass for JRAD. Anyone going to any of those shows?
I wasn't planning on it. I'll be figuring out night shit sometime next month once I know which days I'll be in town. For Dead-related, I talked to a friend of mine on Saturday who loves Axial Tilt and tries to hit that every year which he said he was going to go to again this year. For him, I think it's the specific musicians. But you have to figure that with Dead & Co. in town, they're all going to be doing various special guest appearances around the city. If you do decide to go, drop me a PM/DM as I have some connections over at the Fillmore that can go a long way if the shows aren't oversold.

Much appreciated! I know there’s a lot of Dead centric shows throughout the weekend, so it’s a tough decision, but JRAD is a nice safe bet if anything.

I’ve been following the grids site, some of those you mentioned were just added and could be fun. I think we’re going to go to Wednesday on the Friday night but I was hoping for something a little more exciting Thursday/Saturday than what’s been announced so far.
I also heard we should try to get to specific venues like Tipitina’s but I’m not sure Moe is what’s going to get us there

The Joy, Tipitinas Toulouse Theater and probably 4 or 5 other venues will also have 2am shows as well. A lot of that will be announced March and April. So just keep following the releases. Like IP said, the Thursday is the best day at the festival itself because it’s way less crowded and you can usually get whatever you want to eat without lines. I don’t think they’ve announced food yet though.

We won’t be in until Thursday night, also I’m not sure we can last until 4am or whatever it would take to go to those shows haha.
But the newly announced guests for that Trombone Shorty show make it sound like it could be something special, might have to go to that
Two nights of Disco Biscuits on the Friday and Saturday second weekend at Theatre for Performing Arts. Dead and Company > TDB will make for a spun Saturday.
Jazzfest will be cashless this year. Apparently that’s why the vendor who usually does crawfish bread won’t be back this year. Hopefully that won’t be a trend
