This thread may very well crash and burn, but going to give it a shot. I know I can't be the only person around here with a sizable physical media collection.
Post your collections, talk about recent pickups/upcoming releases you're going for, share sale info (Criterion flash sale has gotta be soon), rank stuff, argue about aspect ratio and bitrate compression, who knows.
I'll start with the assertion that Vinegar Syndrome is the best boutique blu-ray label out there right now.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Not sure if this helped inspire the thread but seems super relevant. Boutique VHS market is going insane right now like video games did in 2020-21 (that may still be going I just remember it being a frenzy after Bernie bucks and the crypto boom).

Haven’t seen this yet but VHS is definitely ~hot right now. Tapes are probably worth more now than they’ve ever been (other than maybe when they first came out and it cost you $100 for a new movie)

For a more serious answer I had pretty respectable collections of both VHS and DVDs in the 90s/early aughts. Sold it off mostly during the financial collapse to help pay bills. I ripped basically everything I had so that kinda kept me from ever building it back up. That and me being a tightwad.
It would be real easy for me to go out a blow a lot on Vinegar Syndrome Blu-rays. Maybe one day I will. But I’ve limited myself to building my book collection as a way of blowing money.

by all means, CDs rule and are due for a reassessment by weirdo collectors
i've been rummaging around in the attic and pulling down small stacks of CDs to listen to. i'll take a pic of what i have pulled right now later tonight. stay tuned.
In our neighborhood, folks always leave out unwanted items on the sidewalk. Have found some great CDs and VHS tapes. My wife and I call them "ground scores" and we leave good items out as well for karma. On my run last week, the Ground Score Gods graced me with a beautiful copy of E.T. which I ran home with.
Bump. I’ve making an effort to up my physical media collection this year mainly with VHS. I’ve opted to collect more Japanese VHS and been doing pretty well with some finds. Some of these covers may be a little NSFW though.

I was in the DFW area over the weekend and discovered two fantastic stores catering in physical media and of course, Japanese VHS. Something about those VHS that I love. The smooth clamshells, the fun alternative covers compared to their American counterparts and those very explicit movie stills they use on the back. I'll probably pick up another 10 when I'm up there in two weeks.
