In the weeks ahead portion, the last part with Joel has to be him in the hospital to rescue Ellie from the fireflies. I got a wave of emotion from that scene.

Helps when they’ve got Gustavo Santaolalla onboard

My partner was super interested in watching this because of the game, I knew nothing about it other than it was a zombie-adjacent story. Absolutely loved the first episode. I even had a dream last night about being in my own apocalypse, so that means that it really left a mark.
EDIT: Also Pedro Pascal is maybe my favorite actor of the 2010s/2020s.
I thought it was very good, even if certain aspects seem to be borrowed from other zombie/post-apocalyptic stories. Still I know that episode was pretty much all exposition/setup. Looking forward to having a new appointment-viewing show.
Yeah aren't the showrunners the guy who wrote the game and the guy who made Chernobyl? I think we're in safe hands.
Yeah. Having a showrunner that made a series that scared the shit out of everyone and kept a lot of people from being depressed post GOT letdown was a tall task and chizon delivered.
that being said i really enjoyed the premiere last night. it was great that they incorporated one sequence with video game pov and you would only think bout that if you knew this was a game adaptation. me an my gf were yelling at the tv during that and were all ''oh shit! oh shit!''.
Really enjoyed the first episode. They did a great job setting up the world and rules. I’m excited to see this Oberyn and Lady Lyanna road trip play out.
I feel like this thread is going to be a spoiler nightmare but I’ll be interested to hear from the video game people how well the show captures the game.
I am a huge fan of the games and the first episode didn’t disappoint. It was fantastic. The game is getting some heat for being “woke” with some casting differences from the appearance of characters, but I love the changes. Ellie and Sarah’s actresses are fantastic. Same for Joel.
I will never understand why switching something up a little irks some folks.

Finally got a chance to watch the pilot. My tolerance for "what if the world was scary" shows has plummeted since March 2020 but I'm sticking around because I've heard nothing but good things about the game. The cast is already excellent.

Really enjoyed the adaptation of the opening scene. Wasn't sure if they'd stretch that out over an episode but still enjoyed them adding a bit more to it to make it more emotional.
Poor Joel.
Ellie was great with her sailor mouth. Two big cursing moments made me chuckle. I think she's going to do well in the role as the smartass kid.
Quality level was great to be expected. Looking forward to more clicker stuff and seeing other characters come into play
Especially in the museum, the editing and shot choices can make it hard to keep track of who is where. The geography of that scene is rather simple in concept, but in practice it's more complex than it needs to be.
The shots inside the state house are much MUCH clearer.
The idea that interacting with the fungus can alert the infected is really interesting and could lead to some fun moments.
Intro is fucking terrifying for the second week in a row.

Good episode. I liked seeing more of the backstory with Jakarta and the scientist. Flour and grains were the start so I can definitely see how things went to shit so quickly. I really hope they keep the 10 minute intro stories for a few more episodes. I'd like to see how Joel and his brother get separated and how he ends up in Boston.
I figured that Anna's character would die eventually considering the premise of the show, but I was sad to see her go so early. Those clickers are terrifying! And that kiss was creepy!
Also, reminder to please mark your spoilers so I know if it's safe to read them as a non gamer.

Props to the set designers, the locations really look like the video game levels, especially with how the damaged areas funnel the characters movements

Good idea. If it's something from the games or something that hasn't aired yet (set leaks or other junk) please spoiler tag it. If it's just discussing the latest aired episode go wild

This episode was all about how good the sets looked. I know it’s lots of CGI but the mixture of real life sets to the backdrops is done so well.

bro I cannot fucking wait for the season finale, I know they're gonna change enough details to keep it fresh but still make me fucking hate Joel for what he does

I don't think people are going to be prepared for that moment. The fact that when you play it in the game, it's somewhat treated as this heroic moment to save Ellie but when it's done through this medium, it's going to be way more dark and disturbing. Joel just going through a murderous rage killing a bunch of innocent people who are trying to save the world. Can't wait.

Loved the entire clickers/infected segment. Felt so claustrophobic and relentless. Really highlighted the difference to slow moving, brainless zombies.
Next week's episode is supposed to be a really good one
