Really really love the FX makeup on the infected. I follow the main artist on Instagram and he did stranger things among others.
I really love how much of an effort they are making to have them look different from the standard zombies (aka TWD). I would even say, they look disturbingly beautiful at times. When the horde was chasing through the museum and they only focused on the one infected that attacked Tess, great use of less being better.

It actually has a bit of del toro feel to me, especially some of the hellboy monsters.
I must have missed this tidbit but I just found out the show is removing the spores from the game entirely. Which then explains why no one has worn any gas masks. I guess the connected fungus replaced the spores? That's a pretty major change from the game but I guess they don't want to keep the actors behind gas masks 40% of the time.

they explained that decision in the little interview segment after last night's episode

Also explained at length in the companion podcast, which I highly recommend.

I’m always apprehensive on listening to these because like HoTD, I feel they deconstruct the episode too much by not leaving anything to imagination. I’ll take a listen if they break down the differences from the game instead of open ended questions from the episode.
Spoilers in this thread are gonna be a fucking disaster lol
When it's a dedicated show then spoilers for what has aired is fair game. If you are referencing future video game story stuff it would be nice to tag it and specify it's future possible spoilers (since they said they deviate a bit from the source).
But yeah...once it airs it's free to talk about.
Quick reminder about spoilers - if it's video game talk or future leaks/info then spoiler tag it and label it as such. Anything that airs on Sunday nights is fair game to discuss spoiler free

Did a little reading, and it turns out IRL Jakarta has the world's largest flour mill, and ships their product globally. In the first episode, the family next door is force feeding Grandma biscuits, but Joel's fam didn't eat pancakes because he's on the Atkins diet (basically pre-Keto), Joel forgot to buy a birthday cake, and Sarah didn't eat the cookies because they had raisins. The mycologist in the cold open this week (excellent performance by Christine Hakim!) stated that flour was a perfect substrate for fungal growth, so that explains how the infection went worldwide so fast. Combine that with the 14 missing mill employees and holy shit humanity was fucked.
Not gonna lie, usually zombie fodder comes across as derivative but thus far this tele show has depth. Guess I will actually have to play the games now haha
This show is quickly the new GOT in terms of needing to watch it when it drops immediately. I was only an hour behind and I was already seeing so many posts about the episode giving people the feels, which in a high stakes show like this is basically gonna get me on edge the whole time. I know what I’m doing 9 pm Sundays from now on

The creator also made “Chernobyl” - very gifted writer

I didn't know Nick Offerman held such depth and range, especially within the context of the libertarian no nonsense guy we've seen him do before. Beautiful episode. It's fun to have a weekly show like this. I have zero idea what's coming but know I'm in good hands.
Only complaint was that it wasn't long enough. I'm not saying we need a Bill and Frank limited series, but wouldn't complain a bit if we got one. Brilliantly done by Murray and Nick goddamn.

Agreed with everyone that the episode was phenomenal. Offerman was great and props to Murray Bartlett. I only know him from this and as Armond in White Lotus. The two roles couldn't be more different, and he nailed both.
