These people think they know what this line meant, but they do not.
But I was wrong because there was one person worth saving. That's what I did. I saved him. Then I protected him. That's why men like you and me are here. We have a job to do, and God help any motherfuckers who stand in our way.
Even if it gets rave reviews, you still wouldn't watch it?
If a lot of people, who actually played the game, tell me that it's really good then I'll check it out.
Hello, actual player of the first game (I haven't gotten to play the second yet), I'm in love. The deviations from the source material are faithfully done, make sense, and make me love the universe even more.
Only complaint was that it wasn't long enough. I'm not saying we need a Bill and Frank limited series, but wouldn't complain a bit if we got one. Brilliantly done by Murray and Nick goddamn.
It was an extended episode. Do you think it needed the extra 10 mins of the pilot?

More just commenting on the fact that Nick and Murray did such a good job of bringing the characters to life that I didn't want it to end so soon. I don't think that it felt rushed or anything the way they showed us 20 years over the course of an hour runtime, but I would have liked to have seen more with them two particularly. I haven't played the game fwiw.
Really really love the FX makeup on the infected. I follow the main artist on Instagram and he did stranger things among others.
Their work in representing what a fungal infection of this type may look like on a human is so stunning. I am fascinated by fungi, and am impressed by how well they are illustrating this aspect of the storyline. The communication occuring on the mycelial network may be embellished to fit the narrative, but it is not inaccurate. It is mind-blowing the way that underground fungal networking can stretch for miles, and that they can communicate to one another and to other flora, sending out stress signals, requesting specific nutrients be exchanged through the network etc. I get so excited to pause and look at the FX makeup when they encounter the infected.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

I'm just really excited to revisit this story and these characters without spending a dozen hours looking for tape and razors.
I loved the scene this episode where they spent a good five minutes hunting for loot in the abandoned convenience store, felt right at home, down to the special collectible if you find the secret basement
I saw a headline say it was "heartbreaking" before I saw the episode, but it didn't break my heart, it filled it. I was brimming with love by the end. Absolutely beautiful that these two found such happiness in an apocalypse.

If you liked episode 3 there's a good chance you'd enjoy the miniseries Station Eleven. It's another post-apocalyptic virus premise. Instead of focusing on physical survival and fighting villains/zombies it's all about how to rebuild and heal the world with love, art, and human connection. There are survival elements but they're not the focus. Plays a lot like a longer version of this ep. I don't think it ever got huge chatter despite its critical praise. Def worth the time.

Also an excellent book.
If you haven’t read it yet, I recommend the newest book by that author: The Sea of Tranquility
I won’t repeat what’s already been said because it’s all true but I nearly list my mind when Joel goes to the truck and it’s missing the battery. Such a small subtle node to the game fans.
Also, next episode gonna include one of the funniest parts of the first game. They partially showed it in the trailer.

It's crazy how much the sets look like the game environments.

They had to build everything from scratch, including that neighborhood, so makes sense it can imitate the game look exactly.

It was too close to when the pandemic started for people to want to watch, I think.

If it wasn't bad enough that they used Max Richter music and Bill making Frank the same meal for their last meal as their first meal and the effing strawberries and Joel wearing Frank's clothes after his shower and the Linda Ronstadt being the tape in the truck and the speeches and the window and the other details I'm forgetting, someone had to remind me of this.
When I was growing up, my mom would ay Linda Ronstadt records on house cleaning days. Very vivid memories of my mom pushing the vacuum around singing while I put my toys away.
