Next episode airs on Friday due to the super bowl so we don't need to wait as long.
The good thing is they arent just planting it there at midnight so spoilers run rampant all day
it's nice to have appointment TV even in the age of streaming. I actually wish more streaming services released during "prime time" instead of midnight.

Couldn’t watch tonight til 11 and I really have to watch as close to drop time as possible because I get so worried when I watch it that I want to spoil it for myself. Pre-pandemic me could handle a lot more than Today Me.
Also happy to see one of my fav actresses in this ep!
I couldn't remember the significance of them last night when we were watching ep. 4. It's been a minute since I went through the game. I looked at the synopsis of their arc, and I agree ep. 5 is about to be a rough time.

I think my girlfriend is now a bigger fan of The Last of Us than I am. She wants me to pick up a Playstation so she can watch how the game handled everything.

Just show her this. There's a couple other options available with the same idea, but this one is of the remake which has better graphics.

Yeah for real. I need someone with the game to come and play it for me. Maybe even teach me how to play a lil.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

agree on appointment TV, it's nice to have. but last night we actually finished an episode of Pokerface right at 8pm, and we were about to immediately go into The Last of Us, but then we decided we'd rather have it to look forward to tonight. so it's "appointment viewing" for us but on Mondays since that's when we've watched every episode so far.

but also just play the game, it's really fun
I played the original, but when my PS4 died on me I ended up with a Series X since that’s the first next Gen I could find. Considering saving for a PS5 for TLOU, Horizon, and God of War- I prefer story games anyways.
Good episode but the action scenes seemed a little weird to me. Nearly all the deaths happened off screen and just seemed janky. Like when Ellie shots the guy on Joel, it’s all off screen then suddenly the guy is on the ground. If they are trying to veer off it being violent, then that’s an odd choice not to show someone getting shot. Especially when you still have those

I hear what you're saying, but I think the moment of bullet impact wasn't the point. For me, I'm really, really glad they handled the aftermath of Ellie shooting that guy the way they did. I've harped a lot in the past few years to anyone who'd listen about how much I hate the way popular media handles gun violence (I'm fun at parties) - that it makes it look cool and powerful, and never really deals with what it means to actually take someone's life. Having the kid beg and call out for his mom was brutal, but it *should* be shown as brutal to do something like that.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Of those 4 shots, that’s the one I’m completely ok with. The brutality of it is Ellie understanding the fate she left that kid. But then the others made it seem the choice was to tame down what would be otherwise ungraphic scenes. This is the same show that had Joel brutally beat a guy to death in the first episode. Gonna be interesting with just how violent the rest of this game and especially TLOU2 turn out to be.

Yuuuuuuup. Heart breaker.
Good episode. Felt like a good conclusion to the two-parter. Though there were some really convenient timing things that are always a bit silly but it's TV and I don't really care. I predicted that the infected would emerge out just as our heroes were about to go down (after seeing the preview from last week).
This one got my mom because she keeps saying how she finds it hard to feel nervous or be on the edge of the seat when it's just Joel and Ellie because she knows they have plot armor. But insert Henry and Sam and things ratchet up a bit.

A cool thing shown in the post-credit feature is the actor who played Sam is deaf and speaks ASL. Thought that was great.
EAP, in the aftershow feature they called that big guy a "bloater." Prob someone who had too many beers and microwaved clams before becoming infected.
That swarm scene was great chaos. I barely kept track of what was happening due to the frenzy and darkness but perhaps confusion was part of the point. First time I truly understood the terror and threat of the infected. Unless if I'm forgetting something I don't think we've seen them massed together like that before.
So far we know about infected (the generally infected ones we've seen for the most part) and "Clickers" (the ones Ellie mentions that are blind but use sonar/echo location to locate victims). That big guy is known as a "Bloater" and are typically created after someone is infected for a really long time. Ellie mentions something in an earlier episode about infected that launch spores or things at people but not sure if these bloaters will do that or not.

What makes this show dark is that we see the humanity and love that motivates every character, even if it's at a huge cost. It's never a motive of power and cruelty like it is in all other post-apocalyptic / fantasy stuff (GOT, Walking Dead).
