Sahara. Rigging and crowd size are the 2 main factors. I dont think a crap ton of people are gonna be happy being on the outside if Mojave for this kind of set. Sahara at least gives you the chance to see it from the outside despite not getting the full effect and im sure plenty of people wont care.
I know the board and Reddit are excited for this set, but do we really think Eric Prydz in 2023 is actually going to be a draw? I think he’ll fill the Mojave at least 3/4th full, but the crowd would look kind of sad in the Sahara or Outdoor.

Considering he is primed to be counter programming it will have a pretty big crowd. Even if it ends up calvin is right on main after you would def expect a lot of crowd crossover. So packed at the start and a slow exodus.
I do think it’s funny that the poll here and the poll on Reddit both map onto where those respective forums want him to play lol. This is “Cirez D has to play the Sahara” all over again
but honestly, people are dug in on their preferences and convinced it’s reason, so I don’t hate putting it to a poll and then letting it go

how many acts actually even fill the Sahara/Outdoor at this point? like a few per year? if sales are really down the Sahara might never be full this year.

I would have said the Sahara before any research, but none of the videos I’ve seen appear to indicate that this show can’t go in the new Mojave/pre 2018 Sahara structure.

personally, I think Prydz will have a bigger crowd than Japanese Breakfast did, but YMMV.
the idea that Prydz isn’t hugely popular with the EDC crowd, let alone is somehow equivalent to Aphex Twin, is pretty funny lol. One of the more persistent blind spots of this board is thinking anything that boardies like that isn’t explicitly pop-coded is therefore underground
I mean he won't be Disclosure but he's not going to be JMJ either. With prime positioning and holograms and the only big EDM act of his day, I think it'll be sizable. He's been around Ultra and EDC forever and there is pretty high name recognition even if he never had a breakthrough hit. I didn't go last year but I heard Lane 8 packed Mojave to the gills and I imagine the Prydz/Lane 8 overlap in terms of fanbase is at least 90%+, and Prydz is the much more familiar name overall.
If I had to guess for attendance of the big EDM shows:
HUGE Calvin Fisher + Lake
LARGE Porter Prydz
RESPECTABLE BUT COMFY ENOUGH Chem Bros
MEDIUM TO LOW Underworld - but then again they had a surprisingly big crowd in 2016

That's what I don't get. If you go through that video and can't see why it can't (or at least shouldn't) be Outdoor or Sahara then I'm not sure what else to say. Also, I know most of you don't want it but this will 100% be overlapping a decent amount with Calvin and/or blackpink which means the Mojave will be more than big enough for the crowd.

The only hold up for me with the Outdoor was I thought that the light rig needed lighting elements along the ceiling in order to make the 3D effect work. The fact that he liked that tweet about the Outdoor makes me think that’s probably not the case or won’t be for his festival rig.
The problem with Sahara is it has that stupid sideways orientation and it’s not very deep which creates a bottleneck on the path side and limits the number of people who would be able to watch the set from head on.

a good example of the overhead lighting is at around 1:12:00 of that video. Sure, the show could work on outdoor but it wouldn't have any of those elements. Since it took so long to get HOLO at Coachella I feel like there was always something missing for it to work or it would have already been on the outdoor. My guess is that there wasn't a tent that could have enough time for set up. The old Sahara (current Mojave) couldn't go an entire day (or more) without the overhead production for the other acts in the tent to give enough time to set up and the old Mojave wasn't big enough. Now you can have the overhead production set up on the Mojave Friday night into Saturday morning (or even the entire weekend) since a lot of the other acts on there wouldn't need any of that production.

I’m realizing I read your initial comment wrong. Yeah I agree the Mojave makes the most sense but I guess we’ll see
