I'm waiting for more of the season to be out before starting it. Prob will binge a bunch over Christmas if Santa fucks up and forgets about me yet again. I'm dying to find out what's up with Margot.
I've seen enough people mention that it's starting to feel like FAM could be a prequel to The Expanse that I decided to give it a watch. I watched part of the first season but it never stuck but watching it with that context could be fun.

The first season of The Expanse is admittedly a bit SyFy / Horror. If you get past that, it’s really amazing. It’s a story about class / equality

I watched the entire series in a week. I loved it!
tbh, I didn’t like this season as much as the first three, but I’m still looking forward to Season 5 and beyond if it’s renewed
this felt like it would be a transition year. I figured for sure we'd lose some combination of Ed/Dani/Margo. I can't imagine them being big parts of season 5 other than old man Ed on Mars.

For a while, I was hoping they’d have Ed get shot and die because they kept foreshadowing him wanting to go out in a “blaze of glory”. Because that didn’t happen, my guess is that we get Ed for the entire series. He will probably be a 100yo still living on Mars.
I could be wrong but it felt like Dani coming home was mostly wrapping up her story. Same for Margot heading off to jail
I really enjoyed the smuggling side of Mars in this newest season.

Just finished season 4. This show is such a treasure. I love that Marv is leading NASA. Def running a long con to steal their VCRs and candlestick holders then Wet Bandit the dump. The FX on FAM continue to impress with how natural and integrated into the environment they are. Moon looked great and Mars is even better. Wish we had more time on its surface but whatevs. This season also had the best soundtrack as its from my fav era of music.
A lot of the Mars stuff reminded me of Battlestar Galactica. I like that torture, class conflict, and political refugees got added to the friction between scientific discovery and militarism. Recreating and reframing the problems of earth off world. If they get another season I expect they'll further explore the politics of Mars as its own colony separate from earth. One with the loyalties of its inhabitants drifting further from their countries of origin than ever before.
I've only seen two seasons of The Expanse but yeah, def feels like a spiritual prequel. This season did lack the HOLY SHIT moments that the others had but it was still great. All of the heist stuff was fun. I've only caught this and Silo on Apple but love both. Praying for more.

I am finally, finally caught up - just finished S4 last night.
I agree with those who think this was one of the lesser seasons, but it was still very good TV - being the least-great among great things is still pretty great. I absolutely loved the central theme of class conflict on Mars. One of the great themes of The Expanse, since others have mentioned it, is that even if humans manage to populate other planets and other star systems, we're going to bring our mess with us wherever we go, and that was definitely on display with what went down at Happy Valley. Performances remain generally excellent, and ZOMG was I glad that we didn't have to deal with the goddamn Stevens boys very much at all, and that Danny is now no longer a concern. The show has such bigger fish to fry than one guy's emotional instability. His end was tragic, but given how much I despised the character last season, I'm happy with it being a footnote in the larger conversation.
The asteroid heist was awesome and super-tense - I mean, any time we're in a "this astronaut might be cut loose and drift off to die in the infinite blackness of space" situation, I'm going to be on edge, as that's a weirdly prominent fear for me given that I'll never actually go to space. But still, the whole sequence was really well executed and the time delay between Mars and mission control on Earth added a whole other layer to it that I thought was cool.
Criticisms:
- Ed's hair and makeup. I know we're probably stuck with this character for the run of the show, but oof. It was distracting for me any time he was on screen. Margo's was executed better, IMO. - So, we're smuggling people to Mars, now? I would have loved a little more about how that is technically possible given the peril and difficulty of space travel. Like, I know Kelly says something about space travel being more standardized this season, but that's for people in conditions scientifically crafted to keep them alive. Are space ship cargo holds even pressurized? I have so many questions. - The CIA and KGB agent were a little mustache-twirly villainous for me. I feel like this show doesn't dip its toes in those waters too often - a lot of the antagonistic relationships are because of misunderstandings or people just having strongly conflicting feelings, but these two guys were straight asshole, and I didn't dig that. - While I was watching, I felt like things did sag in the middle a bit, but looking back on it as a whole, now, I can see where a lot of that setup had to happen for the banger climax.
Agreed 100% that opening the next time jump with "Midnight City" was a killer choice. Looking forward to Season 5.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
