Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood are busy working on a new album with The Smile, so I think we can rule out Radiohead
Radiohead have supposedly been in the studio together since early 2023 according to Phil Selway. Unless I missed some more recent news. I'm sure they can work on two projects at once.

Ahhh dang, well hopefully it's on the front end of those next couple of years, and maybe they play a couple one off shows. They also say they aren't the kind of band looking for a big payday so I could see them taking a bold sub spot or RTTD. I believe they had the smallest crowd of any headliner last time they played, so that might be the kind of act that takes some kind of alternate big billing.
I'd take The Smile or Thom Yorke too. Anima is still one of my favorite releases in recent memory.

Usher isn’t subbing lol. He might do a welcome to the desert thing but that’s it. I know this board views Bjork and Gorillaz as headliners but they can’t headline Coachella anymore so it was a good move on everyone’s part.
Give them the font like a headliner. Accept the sub so they get to come back to this festival. Give extended time so it doesn’t feel like a downgrade. Expose them to new markets and keep the original spirit of Coachella alive right next to the new pop phenomenon.
Dolly Parton played mostly small venues on her most recent tour. I don’t see any way she is booked as a headliner.
She was also booked 4th on the Glastonbury 2014 poster below Arcade Fire, Jack White, and Kasabian.
Legend slot is essentially a 4th headliner to them. Cause you are almost guaranteed to have 100,000 people blitzed out of their minds singing at the top of their lungs at the Pyramid.
Radiohead 2025 and theyll get to headline proper, sheesh guys.
Dolly Parton could absolutely headline, the problem is she’d headline Stagecoach.
Just like Taylor will when she does all 3 weekends. Since headliners are making artist requests maybe Taylor brings in Dolly or The Chicks and they also get Stagecoach. Or even that apparent all female artist lineup she mightve had at Glasto.

Originally on the 2024 mock I was working on before I left, I had Fred again.. as a sub but after their TBA closing set, I think I have to take him off. Not because he doesn’t deserve it but since that set has become such a huge moment closing out the main stage, I think him coming back just a year later might be too soon. I probably wouldn’t feel this way if they stuck with their Sahara set but I think this closing set kinda changes the outlook. Plus it sounds like any new material is quite a ways off so he might not have much new music by then. 2025 might be better for him, either as a sub or if he keeps blowing up, headliner/RTTD.
Then again, The Black Keys did sub then headline the next year so I guess it’s not impossible for Fred again.. to come back so quickly.

Usher was billed after Kings of Leon at Okeechobee 2017. I don’t see any reason he couldn’t sub.

Justice have a new album in the works. They will most likely end up on the lineup with the release of new music. The question is how high are they billed on the lineup?

No less than third on their day (Eric Prydz HOLO). I could see Sub.

I think I agree with all this
Can't go from closing out sunday to just being in the middle of the 2nd line considering his popularity should continue to rise
Fred will at worst be a sub next time he comes back, which should be in a couple years
Feels like seeing him at Coachella will be the last pretty intimate/not incredibly huge set for him that I will ever see

Tollett has hinted that Dolly has bascially declined a Stagecoach headlining spot every year - probably 15 times now.
She hasnt done a full show since 2016. When I saw her in 2014 her crowd leaned elderly which is not desert friendly and maybe she wont do the desert either. Her doing a 1 hour sun down slot might work, but sound bleed needs a thought solution of some kind.
