I thought AM selling out 3 nights at the Forum (plus the rest of the North American tour) put to bed whether they could headline Coachella or not. The Saturday show (only one I checked) get in price for the Forum is $225 before fees on Stubhub
The question is if PT wants them to, especially on the back-end leg of their second straight lounge act album. But it would probably drive some people in from Europe / UK to the desert.
Surprisingly, their Primavera LA day never sold out last year and it was significantly cheaper than the forum tickets are going for right now
I’d love for them to be at Coachella and/or for the forum prices to drop haha
AM would def draw at Coach since they have a rabid latino fanbase and a bunch of em would come from Mexico just to see Alex. Being a bold font sub would work cause a 75 min set means no filler bs.
I think if they can bag the BIGBANG return now thatll be huge. That one member will have gone to Space in the next few months already.
This is still a weird one since they’re way more popular in South Korea than they are in America. (Not saying it won’t happen but I have no idea how it’d play especially as other kpop artists make inroads at other festivals.)
I mean its not as if the BP stans wouldnt want to come back for BIGBANG next year and whatever else. If Lolla didnt have Newjeans and they were at Coach next year it would have people buzzing.
Would Usher (Confessions 20th anniversary set) be a HL or sub? Or billed at the bottom of the poster?
Normally I would say Usher is headliner or bottom of poster or bust. But with Gorillaz and Bjork accepting bolded sub placement, anything is possible with "out of their prime" headliner acts. I think he could take that bolded sub slot with a 75 minute set if the headliner above him is warranted to be booked higher

Yeah, same. For some years I thought their headline status was still not fully there yet, but I feel like with that last album they def are especially selling out Forum 3 nights in a row.
J Balvin is definitely sub or bust. But they could just book Ozuna or Daddy Yankee for the first time instead. There's a slew of massive K Pop groups that they haven't booked yet that would be top 3 on their day
I think the thing is re: RTTD, they've done three brand new things in just two years to really stack the fucking lineup - RTTD, surprise headline level acts announced days before, and "official" big font subs. Clearly these were things that were created to be able to get around their biggest problem of having the most insane lineup in the world - which is not money, definitely not, but billing. "Returning to the Desert" could become "with special guests" and then 2-3 big names alphabetically, for example. RTTD could end up being a different genre than electronic. They clearly are going for more flexibility, not creating another rigid billing issue where it has to be a DJ and they have to close main stage etc. They may not use every trick every year, they may even do something new, but clearly they are working around how to have far more than three big acts on the poster.
Oh and also I don't think we need to think about it like, "what K pop act could be as big as BLACKPINK". I think the other thing this year showed us is that they are completely comfortable at this point as going with curveballs. A lot of the bigger acts on the poster either weren't rumored or were mentioned (Gorillaz as a sub I definitely saw) and immediately rejected as the suggestion was so implausible. I don't think the trick for predicting is going to be so simple as replacing like with like.

Definitely; a perspective I tried to keep last year and wasn’t even quite imaginative enough with was “which stars are huge in their respective countries/industries that could be on the lineup?” like Anitta in Brazil, Stromae/Angele in the Francophone world, Burna Boy in Afrobeats, etc

They could also name it "Welcoming To The Desert" to fit a 4th headliner who hadn't been booked before if they really wanted to. This year had the longest sets for non headliners as well (at least 5 off the top of my head exceeded an hour). Which I'm sure length of set makes it easier to book huge acts who want over an hour or bust, regardless of billing.

Bruce Springsteen Trent Reznor (performing NIN/HTDA/Atticus Ross) Max Cooper 3D AV Show Rival Consoles Pinegrove
Dolly Parton is absolutely a headliner.
And the bolded subheadliner spots were basically all headliner-level acts this year. I don't think Dolly's career or ego is riding on where her name ends up on a hypothetical Coachella poster. Move her up to headliner, RATM down to RTTD, and Radiohead to bolded sub if it makes you feel better.
Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood are busy working on a new album with The Smile, so I think we can rule out Radiohead
Radiohead have supposedly been in the studio together since early 2023 according to Phil Selway. Unless I missed some more recent news. I'm sure they can work on two projects at once.

Who would have thought that simply increasing the font size from 12 to 14 and pressing Ctrl + B would solve all issues…
