So what, you guys think they're going to put Justice or Pretty Lights as one of the last acts on the main? Really?
No but could be a bigger EDM name we havent mentioned yet. Or RTTD act could headline Sahara. I was just saying I think Lana or Depeche Mode would be listed on the day they are playing rather than at the bottom.
Although it doesn't really matter how household of EDM name you are, it will draw a big crowd after dark, because that's what most of the people want (see Chris Lake/Fisher's headliner sized crowd at the Outdoor this year)
But that's the thing people are missing about RTTD. Yes so far it's been EDM for two years but it's ALSO been two artists who have closed out the main stage (or were going to since SHM were going to close after Harry). If you look at just the poster and the poster alone, it would look like it's always EDM artists but once you look at set times it's a different story. Why is it that when we look at RTTD and see the trend between two years, it HAS to be the same genre but the time and stage can differ? Why can't it be the other way around? Like we only observe one trend and conveniently ignore the rest?
Which trend makes more sense going forward considering the font size and billing it has on the poster: EDM only or artists who would be one of the last to play on the main? My money is on the latter.
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide

The only thing that throws me off here is that historically, it’s been almost exclusively EDM/dancy/high energy acts who close the main after a headliner. There are a handful of EDM acts that have done it, plus The Weeknd, plus Black Star (a weird one lol). I could see it being a non-EDM act, but I can’t really see it being a sleepy act like Lana Del Rey. Something broadly appealing AND upbeat to end with a party. Frankly: Travis Scott might make more sense here than as a headliner, both because he fits those terms and to avoid the press/buzz of “Travis Scott headlining Coachella after Astroworld/terrible Sofi resale”

In addition to what you said the RTTD act has been the biggest non-headlining act and that is what my personal guess for it is.
Yeah between Sault playing in London and Cleo Sol doing a solo show in LA, they are active and mobile now. The time has to be now. We have to be getting Cleo solo at minimum but I hope we get Sault
Wait where are you seeing Cleo doing a solo show in LA? Did that already happen?
Nobody would show up for DM if they did it anyway. Just make a bigger version of Cruel World and have them headline.
They had a decent crowd at Primavera, and played before Kendrick so I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s headliner or bust.
They shared top billing with him and actually played for a half hour longer (just shy of 2 hours); that's certainly a headline set. I don't see why Mode would ever come back though; they apparently had a miserable time in 05 and can easily play a buttload of arena shows in LA and San Diego anyway.

Really gonna compare them playing in their backyard when half of Germany can roll up to Barca? Nope. This is likely their last tour from them and no way would they do Coachella as something other than a headliner.

ODESZA and RÜFÜS DU SOL are the only other electronic artists on the SHM/Calvin scale that could fit the genre and size of RTTD. That’s it, that’s the list.

Marshmello
But I’m in the camp that RTTD doesn’t have to be EDM and Coachella uses it just like every other festival uses special guest. We have an artist who won’t sell more tickets and/or increase our brand more than the headliners we booked but we still need to book them to sell the amount of tickets we need to be profitable so we offer this up for their ego and the appearance of a stacked lineup
Welp. If you go on the ticketmaster page for An Evening With Cleo Sol, it says "page is no longer available". But some event sites have a "get notification when tickets become available". Maybe she cancelled the show? Or pushed it back with a TBA date? Weird.
Maybe this is a good thing for Coachella, if this was dropped/moved for radius clause reasons?

Not sure what it means for Coachella but Hangout’s lineup isn’t dropping until January now. Maybe they both share a headliner and they want Coachella to reveal it first? I could see both having Dua Lipa.

Gut reaction is this seems like a bad omen for confidence in the Coachella lineup
There’s no west coast dates at all, probably on a different leg. I have a feeling they are going to be announced for Shaky Knees this week so won’t be at Coachella.

Didn't they share Calvin Harris one year and Hangout still announced first?
My guess is it's unrelated. Pure guess is they were wondering how to make the numbers work.

Yeah, though that was 2016; they have a lot more Coachella tickets to sell these days. I doubt there's a ton of overlap in the two audiences but they still might want the Coachella lineup to feel as special as it can.
But I also agree it wouldn't be a great sign for this year's lineup if that's the reason they're holding Hangout.

They shared Calvin, Kid Laroi, and Glorilla this year.
